re: Suzuki's New Premium Hatchback Baleno Coming Up!Now Launched

^^Sirji this is Maruti Suzuki and the 1248cc engine under the hood is a tall stroke engine. Stroke is taller than even that of i20.
Low end of Swift is already fine and so is the power delivery which makes the Swift already quick enough for having fun on the roads.

Now it is speculated that Baleno will be slightly heavier than the Swift. In that case also the power to weight as well as torque to weight ratio will remain to be favourable. If MSIL couples the same with slightly shorter gear ratios; then there should'nt be any issues. In fact after driving the likes of Ertiga, S Cross etc and looking at the performance available on tap I am quite sure that the drivability will be fine, at least if I go by the way the engines and gear ratios of all other Maruti diesels are tuned.

But yes, for the sake of numbers; at least 90bhp was needed.

A small correction, Baleno will be lighter than Swift - international figure is ~ 90 kg lighter.

Thanks a lot for correcting me sirji.

If the Baleno comes out to be 90 kg lighter then the power figures are good enough to get a satisfying performance.

Just got a call from Nexa Kochi. It seems the sales persons have been trained and has all the details regarding Baleno with them. They would not reveal it all , but got a couple of things confirmed.

1) Launch is on October 28th Wednesday as opposed to 26th that we were hearing.

2) Engine options are also confirmed. It will be the same 1.2L petrol and 1.3L diesel that we are familiar with and will be available in manual as well as CV transmission. Most importantly the engines will be in a different tune than we have yet seen. They will provide improved torque as well as power.

I seriously doubt whether Suzuki wants some products to really be a flop in India. Seeing the above pics,I think swift looks better than this. Though I agree the top end baleno got the looks with those projectors and drl. But rest of the models looks really bad. I was comparing jazz with baleno cvt. But seems jazz wins outright in all departments. Just hated the above pics, anyway thanx for those pics, saved a journey to Nexa.

Whereas see how much better this looks with those projectors! (Interior lighting does enhance the beauty, but still)

Baleno ad shoot at Bhiwandi, Nasik highway.

Any idea what its Kerb weight is, if Maruti is making this lighter than Suzuki, are they using Boron Steel or like Ciaz claiming it is one of the High tensile without specifying which grade/type.

While a lighter car made with better materials and design can give better protection - in maruti's case I doubt it. Their Indian and British version of 1.2 liter Swift have a 55kg difference, while European Swift scored 5 star rating in Euro NCAP, their latin version scored only 3 stars in Latin Ncap. Which has tests only for frontal impact. Lighter weight gives better fuel economy and lesser stress on Vehicle parts which leads to lower maintenance, it can also lead to unstable structure leading to poor safety. Their chairman has also stated safety is not an issue in the Indian market.
