Well, enough of this stupid debate! I dont want to argue on silly matters! Everyone have their liberty to choose what they want, but I suggest them to choose what they want after reviewing thoroughly and know the limits of their car! Drive safe! Be safe![drive]
This debate was and is not stupid. Nobody enjoys arguing on silly matters. You trust Maruti a lot. If you only knew the reality, you wouldn't be so sure.

Nobody is arguing that the ertiga doesn't have bad suspension/handling. It is a given. However, everybody buys a car as per their requirements and budget.

As long as you are happy with the ertiga, everybody is as well. What I can only do is request you not to assume things. Accidents happen due to a lot of factors. You say that the ertiga's handling and suspension will ensure that one may be able to avoid an accident (or whatever else), you still can never be sure. Even the german saloons which boast of high safety features will never guarantee that you will come out alive post accident.

I can also put forth another perspective: Ertiga's good handling will tempt me to drive at high speeds on the highways (even though it is unsafe). Xylo's boat like handling (which is anyways over-hyped) will ensure that I will never drive fast in the first place, hence 'theoretically' reducing the chances of an accident or my survival chances if one were to occur. It's just a perspective. Don't take it in a literal sense.

Every car has it's pro's and con's. You buy it if you want to. Just don't make assumptions. That's all.

Thanks,
Simple_car

P.S.: this is from a person who actually likes the ertiga, but wouldn't buy one. I prefer the xylo/quanto due to my priorities.

Well, I agree with you and thats what I said that everyone can make their choices! But what I said were not assumptions for sure, it's logical thinking and as I know somewhat deep about automobiles, I just say the possibilities which may be right for most of the part (regarding accident manner/cause or even the crash rating)! Everyone can choose what they need, what they want and for the purpose they require, but either way, if we need one thing better, we have to compromise in other factor in a car because no car is perfect! Its just about which one they feel better to live with, according to their requirements and others (like me) may point out some things which we don't like! [cheers]

In fact, I never like Maruti seriously till new Wagon R was launched in 2010 and even now I say the best products from Maruti Suzuki are Wagon R, new Swift, new Dzire and the Ertiga! Rest all are weak, cramped and not so good! My previous car was Indica V2 2002! I still have it! But even I am surprised that I have found trust and LUV in Maruti! But still, as a fact, Ertiga is better than Xylo in terms of ground clearance, easiness, stability, highway cruising and efficiency and flexibility which i prefer!

Ground clearance:

Ertiga - 185 mm
Xylo - 186 mm

Source:
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
Mahindra XYLO | Best MUV in India | Multi Utility Vehicle | XYLO Review | MUV Cars India

This is inspite of the fact that Xylo is a RWD vehicle and hence has a rear differential. So, Xylo's GC will be shown lesser on paper.

So effectively, Xylo's GC (approx 190 mm) is more than Ertiga's.

What you prefer is a subjective thing , but dimensions and specifications are never subjective they are objective always .

I don't understand on what grounds are you saying that the ertiga has better ground clearance then xylo ? Can you kindly explain us please .

And I think you are mostly posting your preferences as facts . There is a difference in facts and preference .

For example xylo and ertiga both come with safety equipments it's a fact , but you thinking the ertiga is much safer then xylo is what you prefer to believe . There is nothing wrong in what you choose or prefer to believe but at the same time it is not a fact too .

Ertiga GC- 185mm

Xylo GC- 186mm

Compare Mahindra Xylo vs Maruti Suzuki Ertiga - CarWale

If you have some mechanical problems to report about both the cars Kindly tell us but posting pics of accidents don't prove anything as we don't know exactly on what grounds accident happened in the first place .

Okay, it may be almost similar, but not way better and makes not much difference in the Xylo! And its my mistake Raja sir! The ground clearance is better than the Innova! But in the Xylo you have to climb up but in Ertiga it is easier and even though both having almost same GC!
Ok I agree but it is just a guess what could have happened! And it is true that Ertiga is safer! and you also have the choice to believe what you want!

Please please don't call me sir man . We all are friends here sometimes with same opinion and sometimes different opinion about a particular topic .

Yes I agree here with you the Ingres is better in ertiga and more comfortable too as you don't have to climb in the car as you do in a xylo ( saying this taking into consideration average indan height ) this is because of the height of the car and not the GC.

Ok I agree but it is just a guess what could have happened! And it is true that Ertiga is safer! and you also have the choice to believe what you want!
My friend it is not about the choice of what I want to believe , people believed alto is a safe car but is it really a safe car ?
On what technical grounds you believe the ertiga is safer can you explain please ?

Remember we are not here trying to prove each other wrong or right , we are trying to bring some information about both the products for the readers . So the information must be objective and not subjective . Means what really " it is " and not what we feel .

Alto may be very terribly unsafe, but at the same time there is the Swift which is safer than the Vista and scored 5 stars and also the SX4! Same is the chassis and build of the Ertiga as the Swift and if you see, there are integrated steel high strength sections all along the body along with high strength steel with beams and a corrugated roof! Also has a box steel section around each wheels which makes it way stronger than the Swift! And you can feel the stiffness of the chassis and body when you drive over bad roads! No judder from the underside or metal panels!

Brother read this

The Vista has been engineered to pass stringent European crash test norms and even the bonnet height has been optimised for pedestrian safety.
Tata Indica Vista Quadrajet Aura review, test drive - Hindustan Times

And chassis itself don't guarantee safety , and the spec version of maruti swift which had 5 stars safety is not sold in India , so comparing it with a Indian spec xylo is invalid . It's apples to oranges comparison .

Just because one car is based on similar chassis like the one who scored 5 star safety doesn't mean it's safe .

The Ecosport is 4 star rated while the fiesta sedan is 5 star rated the platform is same yet ratings are different .

Can you provide us crash test scores of ertiga please ?

Kindly provide a source for this info .

Not entirely unsafe, the suspension should have been safer! You can read perfect reviews of every car in AUTOCARIndia and their every detail! Visit their website: Autocar India | Best Car News and Reviews or else, search for older issues of Autocar in the old book shop for reviews of both! Or you can get to know some info in the Maruti suzuki Ertiga official website!

I will , but on what basis you came to a conclusion that xylo is a unsafe car ? And what you exactly mean by suspensions being safer or not unsafer ?

Okay, it may be almost similar, but not way better and makes not much difference in the Xylo!
Earlier you were bragging about the Ertiga's GC.

Now since the Xylo has superior GC, the difference does not matter much to you!

But in the Xylo you have to climb up but in Ertiga it is easier and even though both having almost same GC!
So what exactly is the issue here? Seat height or GC?

And it is true that Ertiga is safer! and you also have the choice to believe what you want!
We would like to believe the truth. And the truth comes from facts. And facts need reliable sources.

Assumptions are not the right place to start.

Raja gave you the perfect example of the ES and the Fiesta.

You will get to know all these if you read the AUTOCARIndia mag bro!
Really?

Now ACI is the supreme court in the Indian automotive arena?

Listen, I have nothing against the Ertiga. Its a fine car. I also admit that the ride and handling of the Ertiga is better than the Xylo. But that alone does not make the car safer.... or better.

At the same time, I am not claiming Xylo is a very safe car. But you are claiming that "it is proved that Ertiga is safer than the Xylo", which is wrong. Both cars have not been crash tested and hence it is difficult to form a definite conclusion on this subject.

Xylo has its own strengths over Ertiga. I am looking for a used 7 seater car in my native place and I would personally pick a Xylo over an Ertiga because it offers more space, more GC and is more rugged for abuse. Plus it has a more powerful engine to pull 7 people comfortably. So you see, your priorities are efficiency, ride and handling. Mine are space, GC, power and ruggedness. Also, priorities change with respect to the purpose you are buying the car for.

So which car is better? Well, it depends. I would prefer the Xylo and you would prefer the Ertiga. But dont potray the Ertiga as the best (and safest) car in that segment. Simply because you dont have any valid sources to prove the same. You are talking about something you have read in magazines and claiming it to be a fact. I dont understand how!

I wouldnt say it's the safest, and I was never bragging about it! I say the Xylo seat height is a bit too high for easy ingress, though it's GC is not that much as of an Ecosport or Duster! Okay no offense in choosing the Xylo, but the topic here is which one is better overall! You can believe what ever you want, who am I to say? Autocar is the best Auto review magazine in India as Overdrive doesnt give much details and neither does AutoBild or Auto India! So I go by it's views and I myself have experienced both the cars and so I am giving my points of opinion or 'whatever you call that'!
