Experienced automotive experts, good day. I am new to this online portal, However keep a tab on all the happenings in the car world on this forum. Finally I have become a member. Feels good. Coming down to the point, I own a 1986 maruti 800. On its 30th year I would want to give it a new life, since its rusting in places, and some of the interior parts are worn out. Need help from the experts who have restored their cars to old glory. I stay in bangalore and have decided to get the car painted, interiors replaced. Please let me know good painter shops that I can visit. Thanks! Here is a present picture of my car. She bone stock, running on yokohama tyres, she has clocked about 2.75lak kms, with an engine work in 2007. I love her! Would want her to gift her something special.
Hi Elexsis, Nice to know that your 800 has completed 30 years with you. [clap]
Your 800 looks clean from inside, however, yes rust can crop up at places you have expected. Please check the following areas for rusting-
Front Cross member
Cross member, Dash panel
Upper cowl
Full Floor (From inside as well as from outside)
Rear wheel well
Area behind quarter panel door pad (Both side)
Fuel Filler neck
Insides of door and door hinges
Running board
Rear cross member
Leaf Spring Mounts

If it is surface rust, you can get it sanded down to BARE METAL, then apply primer and paint.
If its perforated rust, REPLACE that panel straightaway. Each and Every panel, whether small or big, is available with MGP. Trust me, tinkering is just waste of money, telling this through my experience.
Whatever you do, after that anti rust coating is a must. Go for 3M or Rustoleum.
Also, while giving your car to any mechanic, make sure he is competent enough to handle complex jobs like replacing panels, and is equipped with proper tools. For example- Say you are replacing the running board, the tinker will first cut the panel and then re weld a new one. So before cutting the panel, they need chassis jack to support the body, so that the measurements don't get messed up and he welds at proper place and angle.
Once the place or angle is messed, it can never be perfect and will cause lots of issues.

BTW what is the mechanical condition of the car? Engine, Gear box, Suspension, Steering?

Just went through your whole thread. It was just splendidly written & the way it has been bought to the glory back. Was just wondering, how much money did you spend on restoring the beauty till date? It all worth it. Enjoy many more year of safe drive with your swan.
Happy driving.
Thanks a lot. I haven't calculated yet, and i won't in future also, as the happiness i get after i drive my 800 is just priceless. [;)][:D]

thanks sumit
for the part numbers of the door pads. as for flattening them i have not tried it. i am still skeptical and havent got any process in mind to flatten them. I think that a good iron over the back of the pads should be ok but it might ruin somewhat the gray pads/cloth on the outside
i am just thinking how to go about it. and now it being the rains i would wait for the rains to be over. hehe.
well did i spell you 'susmit' instead of 'sumit'. i am really sorry for mis-reading your name.

regards

mandar

sir what is the cost of maruti 800 flooring and carpet full inside???
"maruti 800 flooring"

Are you referring to Floor pan?
If that is the case, the full floor pan costs approx 4500 in MGP.
Full carpet costs approx 900 to 1000. (Front, rear, boot area).

Roof rail for 800 should be available with local accessory shops, check with them.

Hey shashi, Thanks a ton mate for uploading the pics. Placements kept me busy, so logging in very late.
Well updates about the car-
Full paid service, engine oil change- MGO Castrol 20W40.
Replaced the right axle oil seal.
Our SA Mr. Dheeraj himself fixed the front licence plate holder, which was not there in my car before, and is a very rare find. :)
Also, we fixed the new instrument cluster, and T1 mud flaps. (Parts courtsey- Shashi)
Some Pics-

Hello Sumitsinha, I am a new member here ( of course old man too) and recently did go through Swiftshashi's Novel on his Golden Goose and happened to read the story of your White Swan this evening. I am really surprised to read the whole story and must really appreciate how you young guys have done wonders by your affection and interest in your old cars. Also I did read about Varun's story too , how he has nicely maintained his car too.

Of course my Maruti 800 DX Car is 19 years old( 1998 Carb model ) and I tried my best to maintain it , though the running is very less in the past 4 years as I seldom go out of my home town. I did post some queries recently seeking help from experts here and Saroyaji and swiftshashi did give me some advise. I shall share the same here tomorrow and also about my another anxiety before I take my car after few days for some more service.

Good night.

Thanks a lot sir, for appreciating our efforts. Our main goal is to get this car back in showroom condition. We have reached far from where we started, but we have a long way to go to achieve that level.
Please share your queries, we will try to help with our limited knowledge on 800s. :)
