Nice ones, thanks for sharing the link...wud be interesting to see the pics of the AL engine in the house boat , will await ur next visit bro [cheers]

One more topic i missed mentioning was the first service :- I was charged for all consumables in the first service - this surprised me as usually from whatever i cud remember the free services include consumables as well - oh well now i know not with Mahindra atleast - can anyone share how it works with other manufacturers ( especially Indian ) . Personally i feel all consumables should be free in the free service - if u call something free it shud be free and there shudnt be any caveats, but it seems the realities of this competitive world is forcing manufacturers to do penny pinching wherever they can.

Free service only means free labour, that is, labour rates wont be charged. Consumables are always charged.

@ Iron
Very Nice review of your Xuv. M&M has again proved them self over this model.
Just wondering about "perimetric alarms". Is this due to any wire overheating or touching any hot object?
Have the SC checked wiring?

Iron, Almost forgot to ask, How was the lugage space managed in your trip. Or was there any compromise?

Hi Krish, the team at the dealership has been checking this but so far havent had definitive success - i got a call from mahindra again today and they again assured it will be handled at a priority.

I have a roof rack as part of the accessory, so that really sorts my problem - i had 6 medium size bags on the roof all through the trip. As we were 7 travelling i needed the third row up right and i could manage easily using this arrangement.

Even if i had an innova or an aria i am sure i would have needed the roof rack. There is only so much space behind the third row - and if u cant fold it (as u have passengers)then a roof rack is essential. if i was travelling with 5 adults i cud have folded the third row and tht wud have made place for the luggage easily..

Guess you had a happy holidays with your Dark Knight! Please pour in more pictures and create a new T'Log.

OT: Alleppey is an amazing place. Been there for my HM. The house boat that we got was amazing. For that matter most of them are amazing and moreover guys who work there know how to flatter a customer with Kerala food.

Adding 2 things that i didnt like particularly and experienced in the journey :-

1) The engine temperature indicator - it has 2 sections one in blue and one in red , till date despite driving all day the indicator hasnt moved to the red section at all, but the blue section is hardly visible in day light - i prefer to have a simple indicator which has ranges from min to max and i clearly know when the car engine is becoming hotter. I like the one in the civic for tht matter.

2) There is only a high beam indicator in the dash in the xuv, there is no indicator to show the dipper or parking light is on - isnt this a big miss ? or is it just me whose having this problem - i dunno [confused]

In the last 2 days i got half a dozen more calls from Mahindra and there is a factory team coming in to the dealer workshop this monday, my RM has requested to send in the car to check both the issues. So hopefully i should have more updates then.

Also more pics will come after the weekend.[;)]

Good to know that IronRock(Your name???).

The CC of M&M is responsive when needed.

Looks like nowadays M&M has hired Call centre from Hyderabad asking for feedback, while i was On my trip to TN i got a call while at Madurai.
Asking for feedback from the recent visit to A.S.S.

Earlier the call used to come directly from Mahindra office Mumbai.

Good to know that Mahindra is atleast trying their best to solve the issues of your car. A car may have minor issues but good customer support makes up for it.

Re: Mahindra XUV5OO: "The Dark Knight" Buying and Ownership Experience

Although I am in the list of Aria lovers but still here is an incident which is making me biased towards the XUV thing:-
Now a days there is election time in Uttar Pradesh, its just 50 days away so the SUVs are in huge demand.Anything called SUV from Bolero to Audi Q7(Jan sales figures will have SUVs especially Bolero,Scorpio,Safari and XUV have a high rise in sales) are being bought by politicians in lots and as a result there is a shortage of SUVs and hence now they are being bought from another states,so this way went the story:-

So an MLC from here Meerut who is a friend of my father wanted to buy some SUVs for their election works and he wanted them within 3 days so after searching for many second hand SUVs he got one Safari, one Bolero and two Innovas but now he wanted two more so started the search for two Scorpios and with no availability in any dealership even after the guy was ready to pay upto 3 lacs in black for SUVs he found an XUV in Ludhiana and a Scorpio in Dehradun(without any black payment)these both were cases of cancelled bookings and the guys from Ludhiana told that he will have to pay the money full in cash within 12 hours of enquiring else the XUV will be handed to someone else,so irrespective of color and model he simply asked my father if I can go there with his men and without thinking even once I agreed.
So story went this way, with a good amount of cash in our hand we people left to take the XUV in my Innova and after we reached there we saw a good silver colored W8 4X2 XUV waiting for us,and spent 5 hours there for receiving the car and returned back to Meerut(2 am today),now starts my true impressions of XUV:-

From the dealership,we took the steering and the odo said 91 kms so I started the beast and with a good thrum the engine awakened and then started the highway rush,an XUV with a temporary registration crushed all and everything on the highway there was fog in the night but our fury needle never came below 80 and we cruised the hell out of the way within 7 hours.
1):Acceleration:Wow,this car really accelerates like a brute.
Overtaking on highway:No matter how much long the line is,just press your right foot and 150 kph comes in no time.
2):FE:9.7 kpl overall according to my calculation, but this FE was also great considering that the XUV hasn't even once saw its 6th gear throughout the journey, only 3rd and 4th gears were engaged most of the time, even 5th was seldom used.
3):High speed behavior:This thing really disappointed me,I did even 170+ kph in the XUV but was not at all confident in the car.
4):Driving comfort:Never feels cumbersome like Aria, the longer you go the relax you feel in it,really the Aria is more tiring to drive.
5):Power delivery:This engine pulls like a locomotive from very low revvs to the 4.5k rpm.Whatever the rev range is,this engine pulls.although here it gets beaten by Aria between 2000-3500 rpm where Aria performs brilliantly.Overall there is a quitle long rev range to play with.
6):It looks like the third gear could have been longer(correct me if I am wrong).

Overall, everything worked quite well and no doubts this is a quite good car,the clutch felt quite hard rest everything impressed me...WILL POST A GOOD LONG RUN REPORT WITHIN 3 MONTHS AS THIS CAR WILL TAKE VERY SEVERE BEATING IN THE ELECTION CAMPAIGN,beating hard enough that even Scorpios and Safari's get broken down or need even engine overhauls.

Vipul : Did you feel the clutch hard??
Because during my test drive, the clutch was smooth and at one point it goes in suddenly.
Same while depressing too.

But i felt the seats were bit hard in W8,as against W6 which seats were as if sitting on Sofa.

Definitely it was hard, maybe because it was a brand new car but it was. From hard I mean that the clutch as you mentioned at one point suddenly goes in after its pressed more than half but while releasing it or in case of driving on half clutch it feels like the clutch is trying its best to get released and needed quite of work to be done to keep it on the position. While after you press it more than half then it simply gets pressed like of an i20.
I hope you understood what I meant, from hard clutch I don't mean that the clutch should always be hard,I use my toe for pressing the clutch with my heel lying on the floor most of the time and hence it may be possible that I have felt so.

It was 4 in morning the XUV left my home for her endless journey, maybe it will cover all the terrains as the campaign plan includes villages, hills, plains, highways and some places in interior where there are virtually no roads at all with even 15-16 people on board.IF XUV RETURNS BACK THEN DEFINITELY I'LL VOTE IT BEST.Dunno how the XUV will take such beating.Anyone who has ever been in politics can understand what level of beating I am talking about.(In 2007 I simply withdrawn my Innova from the election campaign after it visited three villages as I felt like my car is begging me to make take her home)

About hard seats..hmm.[thinking]..naaa those seats are simply okay.
Those seats are not hard, instead they have near to the perfect cushioning, why?Extremely soft cushioned seats are more uncomfy then hard ones.Only problem is that the backrests are made in a quite uncomfy way.My driving style is simple, stretch my hands and then catch the steering(putting it at its top most position) with back simply resting on backrests and hence I felt that back rests could have been better.

The handbrake still feels inadequate,if there are 4-5 people on board then its better to park this car in first gear+hand brake instead it can start rolling slowly, you drive it and apply the hand brake and there is no more load felt on engine at all, this simply indicates that hand brake is inadequate.
