Re: Mahindra XUV5OO: "The Dark Knight" Buying and Ownership Experience

@Mukesh My name is Alpha Mike India Tango ( ha ha got used to saying this to brits who always get it wrong!! )

Yes Mahindra seem to have hired some call centre team (bilingual for sure - may be more) - i get some calls in Hindi and some in English - definately from Hyd(040 calls) and sometimes from mumbai. I initially used to take them as courtesy calls but this team is well connected to the RM team - the last time i was a bit more vocal abt my perimetric problem , my RM called me back immediately after the call with the call centre and fixed up a date withthe mahindra team. So in principal its working - however ill have my final say after they fix it for good. They seem to be serious abt it but its only the outcome that matters.

@Raj thanks , yes Mahindra seems to be getting it right, but lets wait for the outcome - i know the perimetric thing is hard to replicate in the workshop environment - but if u have the experts who built it they should be able to debug it.

@Vipul Wow thats some writeup, I am very very keen to hear more abt the trauma the XUV will be subjected to and how it handles it - my prediction is mechanically it will stand its ground - some electronics will go kaput. Please keep us regularly posted on your exploits. BTW regarding the acceleration in third gear and whether it should be long - i dont know to be honest as i have been driving sedately never been in a higher rpm than needed. Off course the car is personal and not on election duty so i am nicer to her [:)], I have exceeded 120 and it behaved easy at 120 may be someday if i find the road, but the reality is 170 on indian roads and with our general traffic mannerisms - i would feel suicidal
About the seats initially like Mukesh i too felt the leather one are taut, but as it got used to my BUM [evil], it adapted itself well and i must admit all through the 3k trip i dont have a single complaint abt the seat - nor any other passengers in the second and third row as well. The new leather seats are usually taut and with some use eases up.
About the clutch - it just something to get used to - as i said initially when i drove for the first time i felt the car jumps in the second and third gear - but now with experience my feet is used to the set up. Also after the first service it is much much better.
Regarding the hand brake i havent experienced what u said - u might want to get it checked?

Vipul-One more favour - can you check if u see anything in ur dashboard as an indicator for low beam and parking light ?

Re: XUV 5OO Buying and Initial Ownership Experience

The Initial Driving Experience :-

3) Perimetric alarms have gone off on itself 3-4 times but stops on its own - again need to keep an eye if there is a particular trend when this happens.
Hi Iron Rock,

Congrats! Thanks for the full review of the XUV5OO. I am from Bangalore and got my White W8 FWD last month. I too have been facing this issue with the perimetric alarms going off for no reason. It baffles me as to why it is doing that. It goes off for about a minute or so, and then stops by itself. When I unlock it the next time, it does with 4 loud beeps. Have you found a resolution to the similar problem you are facing?

Also, I have another funny issue. My SatNav has no English as an option. :-) There's a host of Indian languages to choose from, and even Spanish (I wonder why), but there's no English. I called up Mahindra, and they're sending someone over to fix it.

But I really would like to know a resolution for the nagging alarms going off.

Cheers!

Hi Pravin , Firstly Congratulations on the XUV, looking forward to your experience and offcourse pics. I am glad we are having a few XUV owners now and we can share our learnings, can you also look at some of my other questions ?[cheers]
Yes you are spot on about the perimetric issue and i have the exact same problem. I suspect its the bonnet sensor and most times it happens when the engine is hot and u have stopped after driving a lot. Lets see i might have an update on Monday for u.
Regarding ur english language issue in infotainment - they seem to have missed uploading a file - thats an easy 5 min job - so dont worry abt it. Just make sure u ask them to put in the latest software - there have been many updates, the latest one also improves sound quality.

Haha, that's a really good name and quite tough to remember too!!
About leather seats,My Innova has them,My Laura has them and my Corolla has them so maybe my body is now used to them and hence I find them comfy.Rest it felt like the XUVs seats had near perfect cushioning but I simply disliked backrests.
Well, when the XUV comes back to me then I'll search for those lights,as in the night we people were in hurry so I haven't noticed anything except driving dynamics and high speed behavior.

You did 3k kms till date!!!TheXUV which I have mentioned has covered about 1000 kms in just 3 days,it has done even a Meerut-Lucknow-Meerut trip too.

Beating includes:-
First:Got trapped in slush and kept slipping for 20 minutes.
Second:17 people on board on rough village roads travelled the XUV for 20 kms.
Third:Has not taken the rest of even an hour for last two days,is simply moving around.
Fourth:Hilly trip ahead, already covered with posters saying "Samajwadi Party"..even grille is also covered, breathing problem!!

MORE TO COME..If XUV comes out alive then I'll start a new thread for her and if she breaks down then...

wow thats some beating - very keen to see how it survives after being put through such trauma - keep posting [cheers]
mine has covered overall 6.5k till date - but no comparison to yours - mine is treated well. 17 on board lol - u need to post a pic of tht!!

Btw yesterday for the first time i drove the xuv back from mumbai to pune (always did downhill and not uphill yet on mumbai pune expressway) and it behaved great especially around cornering and accelerating up the ghats in higher gears - amazed that at the right speeds it pulls well even in the 5th and 6th cog. Also overtaking is no problem at all - as far as driveability is concerned i am enjoying it. Also took the corners in decent speeds it behaved well. Did a max of about 130 at straights for short distance - felt planted no issues at all. Have never gone over tht speed and probably never will.

One more minor observation when i switch off the engine at a signal with the headlights on(at night times) and it switches to parking lights automatically - this might be common to many cars but i dont have it in the civic so i found it useful. In the civic i end up manually turning off the low beam to parking. Else the lights are on at the expense of the battery.

Also the car is now at the workshop - hope the mahindra team fixes the alarms this time!!

Re: Mahindra XUV5OO: "The Dark Knight" Buying and Ownership Experience

Guys need ur inputs planning to get the glass tints done(3M probably) ?
I dont want to spend exhorbitantly so was thinking of :-
RE35 to the sides and rear (i am aware this is slightly lower than RTO regulations)
CR70 front

Any other suggestions ?

Llumnar is also a best option.

And beware while getting sunfilm installed at the rear of glass as they can damage the rear demister strips.

So better to get it done at A.S.S./ Professional installer.

Thanks Mukesh will checkout Llumar too, yes i always insist on one good guy doing it - zero tolerance to bubbles.i know some good 3m guys but will try llumar as well.

Btw today the RM called me and updated he couldnt do the job - seems they were inundated with critical stuff - so the fix will have to be done on some other day

Some pictures from the kerala trip attached..finally..... sorry for the delay...

Disclaimer :- the cheetah had nothing to do with the overturned truck in the background[;)]

Nice pictures Iron Rock , the chrome works are good and not overdone.

Thanks cooldhaya, yes had to be cautious u dont overdo chrome - i hate garish stuff too - infact i went from a strict chrome no no to fixing some after getting convinced it looks good in black.
No the tints are just generally required anyway - i dont feel any different being in a black xuv comparing to my silver civic in terms of heat. The AC in the XUV is also a chiller - no such issues.

Wow Amit, finally the photos have landed here [:)]. Was expecting the photos since you mentioned that you'd been to Mumbai few days ago.
The cheetah looks arrogant like a beast and yes, thanks for the disclaimer -> I would have thought that the truck was toppled by Mr. Dark Knight. The stance is agressive.

Now, please don't tell me that your cheetah hunted the good looking deers in the photo.
Do start a new T'log and reveal us more about the trip and let this be only for the ownership review. And of course, more pictures will be welcome!

Wow! great pics Amit. The pics with the row houses at the other side of the lake I take it that the second one is on a zoom. What's the lens that you used ?
