New price leader in Mahindra Scorpio SUV range

I was under the impression that MnM still employed the Renault Petrol. Apparently they have already developed a petrol motor base on mHawk.
the petrol sold there in SA is a turbocharged petrol. [surprise]

i wonder if that petrol version gearbox can handle the added power why not introduce a higher power variant in a diesel here too?

With all the utility vehicles ranging in mahindra stable why is the company neglecting its only sedan Verito, they upgraded it with new looks and style and interiors a bit, its a spacious vehicle with robust engine which does duty on many cabs down south with over 1L kms and still running superbly, seems mahindra is not intrested in this car.

[confused] You yourself say MnM upgraded the car, then what makes you think they are neglecting it? And again, we all know that they are developing a compact version of this car. Is there a lack of promotion? or ads?

Re: Mahindra – The Story of “Rise”.

Yes they did but not enough to make it shake the market, not to make crowd have a look atleast about this car.Rebadging it with little of changes doesnt make the buyer inspire to buy a boring plane jane inside out car with the price tag of 7L+ vehicle where evey other manufacturer is coming up with better looks, interiors and quality with bells and whistles. No doubt they have a very robust diesel engine, but over there as well with 1.5L engine chunking 65 or 68bhp power, where every manufaturer trying to give a better more powered detuned engines, all i am saying is they missed their chances twice one when they got seperated from renault and renammed it verito and again when they upgraded it again but not enough.

Re: Mahindra – The Story of “Rise”.

India's largest utility vehicle maker, Mahindra & Mahindra will buy out 49% stake from its US joint venture partner Navistar Group's stake in for the group's struggling commercial vehicle joint venture Mahindra Navistar Automotives Ltd (MNAL) and Mahindra Navistar Engines Pvt Ltd (MNEPL) for Rs 175 crore or $33 million.

Navistar group would continue to support M&M through a license agreement and extend necessary support to MNAL and MNEPL for the purposes of business continuity.

US truck maker, Navistar has been facing regulatory challenges and takeover threat from clutch of private equity investors and global majors like Volkswagen and Fiat in the domestic market and therefore it wants all its capital invested in domestic market.

Re: Mahindra – The Story of “Rise”.

It seems Mahindra had promised that it would acquire something during this period. When Aston Martin did not work out, to fulfill their word, they bought Mahindra-Navistar JV completely!

Jokes apart! The Indian brand has shared an official press release with us with an announcement that it will be buying out the Navistar’s stake in Indian joint venture. In India, Mahindra and Mahindra of India and America’s Navistar International work under a joint venture through which they manufacture and sell trucks , buses and engines. Mahindra has announced that they will be buying into Navistar’s stake in this JV for approximately Rs.175 crores or $33 million.

The deal will be completed in early 2013 next year but Navistar will continue to supply M & M with technology and in turn will use Mahindra’s engineering services support in the United States.

Mahindra and Navistar JV company Mahindra Navistar Automotives Ltd (MNAL) was formed in late 2005 to manufacture trucks and buses in India. There was another JV between the two companies Mahindra Navistar Engines Pvt Ltd (MNEPL) which was setup in 2007. The trucks and buses manufacturing unit still continues to be a loss making venture for the companies and Navistar just exited it to avoid further losses.

Pawan Goenka , President (Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors ) stated that “M&M is committed to the success of the truck business. We acknowledge the contribution made by Navistar to this venture thus far and appreciate their support for business continuity after they exit the business.”

Troy Clarke, President and COO of Navistar commented, “While the Indian market has not expanded as we had originally expected and industry challenges there continue in the near term, we still see promise in India going forward. But given Navistar’s 2013 priorities, our capital and focus needs to be allocated to other business opportunities in the near term,”

“Mahindra has extensive experience and knowledge of the Indian automotive sector and they are best situated to devote the time and resources required to capitalize on future opportunities in India.” He further added.

After the completion of formalities, both the companies will be wholly owned subsidiaries of Mahindra and Mahindra and Navistar will continue to supply them with engines indefinitely. Navistar has been struggling from operational losses and this move comes as a result of not deriving profits from the JV. But for Mahindra , this is not something new. It bought off Renault’s share in their JV to sell the Logan (Now Verito) independently in India. Way to go Mahindra!

Re: Mahindra – The Story of “Rise”.

The board of Mahindra & Mahindra has given its loss-making truck subsidiary, Mahindra Navistar Automotive Ltd, three years to turn around the business, after its US joint venture partner Navistar decided to sell off their stake in entity for 175 crore.

Since its entry in the market, close to two and a half years back, MNAL has managed to sell just over 6,000 units with a miniscule share in the highly-competitive commercial vehicle space. After having invested Rs 1,066 crore so far (M&M contribution 520 crore and Navistar contribution 546 crore), the truck JV had accumulated losses of Rs 692 crore.

Pawan Goenka: "We have learnt that it is difficult to sell a truck versus a car"

Post the buyout from Navistar, the entity's name will be changed and Mahindra will start selling the trucks in its own name.

MAHINDRA &MAHINDRA MULLS SMALL CAR FACTORY IN ANDHRA PRADESH

Homegrown car and utility vehicle major Mahindra &Mahindra could build a factory to produce small cars in Andhra Pradesh. Right now, the automaker is said to be applying for various regulatory clearances that are required to set shop in Andhra Pradesh. Currently, Mahindra operates a manufacturing facility at Zaheerabad in Andhra Pradesh, where it produces utility vehicles like the Bolero Maxi range of small pick up trucks. Very soon, Mahindra also plans to kickstart tractor production at the Zaheerabad plant. The plant is touted to be the biggest tractor manufacturing plant in the world with a capacity to build 300 tractors a day.

Coming back to Mahindra’s small car foray, the automaker is said to be developing a small car that will compete in the entry level Indian small car market. This small car is expected to be priced at under 4 lakh rupees and is expected to come with both petrol as well as diesel engines. Mahindra is said to be developing small capacity petrol and turbo diesel engines along with its South Korean acquisition Ssangyong. These engines are expected to eventually make it into the engine bay of the Mahindra small car.

Mahindra’s Rs 1,800-crore testing facility faces bureaucratic delays

Mahindra’s ambitious plan to establish a 1,800-crore testing facility at Cheyyar in Tamil Nadu has been delayed as the government has not yet allotted the requested 400 acres of land. The delay has impacted Mahindra’s investment plans of establishing a Rs 4,000-crore car manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu.

Currently, M&M is using its make-shift testing facility at Mahindra World City, 40 kms away from Chennai. Unfortunately, this testing facility is inadequate for Mahindra’s future plans and products.

Mahindra signed an MOU with Tamil Nadu government in early 2011 and asked for 400 acres of land. Of the 400 acres, 150 acres was allocated for the testing facility and the remaining for the manufacturing unit. Mahindra planned to invest Rs 1,800 crores in a span of seven months starting from 2011.

Mahindra says that because of these ‘procedural delays’, the automaker is holding back on future investments but it is hopeful that the government will allocate the land soon.
This new facility will be responsible for Mahindra’s small car ambitions. Codenamed The C-101 and S-101, these new small cars will be Mahindra’s answer to Maruti Suzuki in India. Mahindra is also developing small petrol and diesel engines with the help of its ally SsangYong for these new small cars.

Re: Mahindra – The Story of “Rise”.

Vishwas not not another MS, they dont offer you SUV,MUV range what mahindra does, which catters rural and urban indian buyers. The rough and tough image of their bolero's and scorpio carries gives them added advantage for their hatchback and sedan vehicles too, just an added advantage, so why not into this category as well for mahindra.

Re: Mahindra – The Story of “Rise”.

I do not think MM will be a success in the car business overnight. As of now, whtever experience they have is with assembling the Verito. I am not sure if they can frog leap the learning process. Ssngyong themselves are no different when it comes to manufacturing cars, I believe. But then, I could proved wrong...XUV is a remarkable product for a car like vehicle.
