Re: Kinetic Honda DX/ZX Thread.

Hi Guys,

Could anyone suggest a good suspension (Front) setup for Kinetic ZX Zoom Y2K - will the Hero Pleasure one work? what would be the work required?

Also my 2004 model Rx135 rear suspension has become very hard and needs replacement - which one is better for both handling and comfort?

Please also provide the cost details of each.

Thanks in Advance.

Activa's will be good. It will raise the front end. Why don't you check for a bajaj Saffire telescopic suspension?

Please please please, don't talk about other vehicles in this thread:please::please:, check Splendor or Discover suspension, both are good for your RX.

Re: Kinetic Honda DX/ZX Thread.

Hi all, a very nostalgic thread indeed ! Although i never owned a kinetic honda, but loved it a lot. I think its one of the smoothest 2 stroke scooter ever built in india. Whenever i see one on road, it takes me back to my childhood [:)] In 90's there were lot of them running on road. I still remember "You meet the nicest people on a Kinetic Honda " printed on the stepney cover ! Keep it up.
Cheers

Thanks RVSB, I will check and update the details and by the way I will not talk about other vehicles in this thread :).

Yes Kiranby!
Its a nostalgic scooter and this is a nostalgic thread too!
It has its own charm and the well maintained Y2Ks gives 45 kmpl + mileage.

A decently maintained Kinetic Honda DX can give you a range of 220 kms for a full tank of fuel. And a well maintained one can even pull up with decent zest. Just that it's ground clearance is not enough. Thuds through huge speed breakers.

Re: Kinetic Honda DX/ZX Thread.

And only the Kinetic had the largest tank of 7.5 LTS at that time!
And I even saw 2 Kinetics towing a car (not sure whether its an Indigo or Verna but its a sedan for sure)!!!
Kinetic hard the most spacious legspace which can carry a huge CPU (the old CPUs which weighed a ton!) and a UPS both in the same time!
Do you know? I carry my Yamaha PSR S950 keyboard (which weighs ~15 KGS) easily on my Kinetic than my Wego which is cramped.

And hey! This thread reached the milestone of 200 posts! We're currently on pg 14!!!

Re: Kinetic Honda DX/ZX Thread.

@RVSB, you are absolutely correct ! It has a very high load carrying capacity. I have seen some UPS service guys carrying 6 to 8 batteries on it ! They zoom around with such a heavy load. It shows its capability and its balance [:)]

Re: Kinetic Honda DX/ZX Thread.

Update: my mechanic said, Honda activa/pleasure shocks are again same as kinetic and would not make any difference, instead said the aviator ones would be good. But he would not suggest as the height would increase too much and not very friendly for my wife to handle.

The cones and ball sets are the problem, which if changed would solve the thuttery front issue.

Re: Kinetic Honda DX/ZX Thread.

Yeah, aviator suspension is telescopic which is longer than the activa and pleasure shocks which are linking type suspension and are low in height. Though aviator shocks will give better handling, you should modify many things to accommodate and I can't understand why your wife should feel uneasy with high front end.

Re: The Mighty Kiney – Kinetic Honda DX ‘92

Hello everyone!!!!!

Greetings!!!!!![cheers][cheers]

New kid around the block!!!!

stumbled on this thread and loved every bit of it. I was searching for ideas to resurrect a KiHo 1999.

Having spent my earlier life on Bullets RE, of different shapes and sizes ( 350/500/535) I stumbled upon this little one last December. I was looking for a self start vehicle and a light one.

Scooty. I just didn't like. So the contenders were Activa and Access. I tried both of them for a couple of days but somehow was not impressed. Both lacked character in my humble opinion. The ride didn't generate that excitement.

Then I came across this 1999 baby. Rusted front, ill maintained. Dead front forks. Day one I rode it for 45km. No meter, no lights, signal with a mind of their own. But the mere sound captivated me. I wanted that one. Period. Just filled the two tanks petrol and 2T oil and I was off. Someone pointed out that air pressure was low so filled some air (didn't even know what are the rated tyre pressure.

Rode it for a couple of weeks without any change .. I was clocking about 300km per week. Mind made up .. after convincing the others who mattered, financials were settled. A princely sum ( lesser than the cost of a Bullet bore/piston kit).

First thing I changed the front shock absorbers and the bushes and bearings in front. Ride became more comfortable . one day I checked the speed against the GPS on my phone and it was happily puttering at close to 55 kph (no speedo to compare). Then I took the leap, opened the drive chamber. I was in for a shock. The drive belt was literally hanging. The rollers in the clutch were literally stationary. The grease had solidified. Cleaned up everything changed the drive belt. As I was ignorant about the presence of the rollers in the clutch had to use the old set. There was no oil in the gear box!! Drive became smoother. Here I took initiative and started the meter. I was ready with the wheel side worms and a cable. But when I went to replace them I was surprised to find them intact (the original ones). Decided to re-use the same set. Meter has been working since then comparing with GPS the offset is about 4%+.

Today I replaced the rear shock absorber and the silencer.

Now a days I see that the pocket rocket (thats what i call it) cruises effortlessly at 60 - 63 kmph. And I can push it up to 73 -74 kph.Though that speed is for a couple of minutes maybe.

Now that 3 months have passed I am looking to seriously do it up. Here i have a couple of queries for you experts.

I saw some of you have upgraded the tyre size to 100/90-10. Is it a straight fit on the Kinetic rim? How about clearances? If it doesn;t require any change I am thinking of 100-90 rear and 3.50X10 front. Is it advisable?

The engine is stock. Nothing has been done to it. Do you all think its ok to leave it as it is? Or maybe there are some maintenance that might just increase its reliability.
I get a steady mileage of about 45kpl. Is it more or less than normal?

What is the best way to paint the plastic panels? Once painted how long will the paint on them last?

Can we use a K&N type conical filter instead of the filter in the box? I am asking from the performance angle.

Is a complete wiring harness available for the KiHo like we get for a bull?

Can any of help me to procure a maintenance / workshop manual?

Last but not the least can you all help me the common failure points of this vehicle?

Let me close this boring write up by saying this. I enjoy re-building the machine as much as I enjoy riding it. I have quite some miles under my belt on the Bulls but if I can build similar reliability on this little pocket rocket I plan to do some touring. I will be grateful if you share your precious knowledge and help me to realize my dreams

Cheers

Yes, you can but with a just single modification, take a blade and cut the screw holder of the stock airfilter(the holder which holds the stock airfilter with that screw).
I also put one and upjetted.
Read this thread from Pg 7 for full details: http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/forums/two-wheelers/15467-kinetic-honda-dx-zx-thread.html
To be specific about the fitment of conical filter see this: http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...kinetic-honda-dx-zx-thread-11.html#post413621

Re: Kinetic Honda DX/ZX Thread.

Yesterday, another horrible day pushing my Kinetic.
My dad told me that he filled petrol for Rs. 100 without oil and asked me to buyone sachet and pour.
It was night when I poured.
And my dad later told that he has ridden 19 kms after refilling.
That means 25(mileage for Rs. 100) - 19(kms ridden after refilling) = 6 kms worth fuel was there before I poured oil. I didnt know that petrol was low.
So, I went to refill petrol yesterday.
When I started, I let it to idle, The autochoke should start and should raise the idling a bit higher (as kinetic rested for more than 9 hours.), but it didnt, there was much delay for each and it emitted smoke like hell, cloud formed![surprise]
I didnt fret at all and started riding to petrol bunk, Kinetic felt like something's wrong.
I continued to ride. I tried to rev more (i cant ride all the way at 20 kmph) and the engine coughed.
And then the engine fully shutted down and I tried kicking at least 8 times but it didnt start.
So pushed it to petrol bunk. I thought the petrol tank is empty and filled for another Rs. 100 with oil premixed (this time, only 15 ml).
Came out of the bunk and tried to kick. It didnt start now also.
I didnt lose hope and continued to kick for 15 times, on 16th kick, I heard a gunshot sound(very very loud and a crowd gathered hearing it) and I turned back and saw Kinetic emitting black greyish smoke. I was literally in tears thinking that it was the work of Boric Acid (yes, I added, didnt had time to post it here, mixed it in acetone and poured in).
Kicked for another 10 times and another gunshot sound came from silencer. This time I fretted so badly that I sat for 2 mins there itself.
Pushed it again till my trusted mechanic and he said that plug got fouled and clogged with more oil and some yellow-whitish substance (yes, it should be the boric acid:suspect:)
Took out the plug and it was the most ugly plug I ever saw.
Mechanic replaced the plug with some 'E8TC SPEEDE' Plug. He said its a genuine imported plug and is at par with NGK. It costed me Rs. 120 ([frustration], I could have went in for a NGK G-Power for that price).
After fitting new plug, tried starting it. Now another gunshot sound(mechanic told me it is the high pressure inside the cylinder). Mechanic told to kick another time with a smile, Kicked and came to life without any hiccups or any problems.
Experienced better acceleration! With a little effort, wheelies can be pulled!
The new plug does wonders.
Yet to check mileage with new plug.
And the HP filter needs cleaning!!!

Worthy story for an ownership review. Why not add one??

1. Stay stock if you want longevity. No ultapulta filters and unreliable boring and all.
2. 100/90-10 direct fit. Narrow tyre in front and wider in rear aids in steerability. Not much difference in height. Bigger wheels in front makes it more chunkier.
3. 40-45 is normal for kiney. Mod it, then forget about mileage.
4. Plastic primer is available, which is like a pretreatment. You can apply it overnight before painiting. Paint life depends on quality of primer, paint and job.
5. Wiring harness is available, but hard to find. Saw it in some online site sometime back.
6. I think I have posted the 80cc counterparts manual, mostly the same. Else pm mail ID, will send the same.
7. Not much failure parts. Check oil pump working properly. If yes mix with petrol. Also the clutch and belt. Rest all never seem to fail under normal circumstances.

Typed from mobile, so short and mixed. There is another kinetic rebuild in TAI, grey one. It's even more interesting.
