before booking the car i read a few magazines but not top gear, in them the fe given was the manufacturers claim the only negative they all talked of is handling. After getting the car i read many places where not only verna most of hyundais newer petrol cars never managed to reach the claimed fe. I wonder why it always happens that the negatives of the car surfaces only once we have it[frustration]

Nick i tend to agree there, coz new products will have their share of issues but with the verna its been more than just one. The diesel guys aren't making noise coz the only factor is cost of fuel which is keeping them silent. For us its quite a big factor, im sure if guys were getting around 10-11 FE for petrol no one would have complained.

Infact i met a friend of mine he is getting less than 10 for city and only on longdrive does it tough 13 FE. This issue makes it even more complicated as i dnt seem comfortable with Hyundai's longterm performance given that issues are coming in random doesn't give lot of confidence at all. The quality suffers everywhere in this car. Its like you have a fragile glass waiting to break!

bazooka very very few diesel guys have issues with fe, but the weakest link on the diesel is the injectors, turbo and gear box as per most past and current issues are concerned.

Now for me 13-14 is doable and achievable since my car spends all its time on highway journeys but i get 10 in cities. Only crap i don't get is why hyundai claims 13km/l in city and 17 on highway when the darn engine chokes in city driving.

btw i read on some forum this morning that a guy installed cng on his vtvt and his fe is low meaning he goes to fill cng every now and then and now when he's using petrol the fe has gone even more down along with performance.[lol]

See thts the thing, the car is tuned for high octane fuel and when the regular one is used it starts giving low FE. Infact for me now on speed its giving 9.0 on the dot. Have to see what actuals i get.

i have read up on hondas engine design for the civic or is it the accord, the engine is a higher compression ratio i think 10:5 just like our engine, in order for it to run properly on regular fuel they have oil sprays which spray oil right below the pistons to keep temperatures a bit cooler so regular fuel doesn't pre-denote as well as tune the engine for the same. While for us i suppose if it detects a knock it retards timing which in turn leads to performance decrease but we do not find it so, so I'm guessing it injects a little more fuel then it usually does?

On the other hand i wonder if the fuel test are done on a dyno with higher octane fuels?

btw speed isn't a high octane fuel its just like the regular one but has additives in it.

my building friend got a new honda city a month back and he never complains of low fe just goes and fills regular from any pump.

so have you been onto any detailing job lately? I'm thinking of doing one this week. possibly do a through interior clean with engine bay and spray some water on the condenser and radiator coils. Are there any good polishes for the chromes like my handles window garnish and exhaust tips?
by the way do we need to do a puc check on our car after 6 months or 1 year?

so that means i have to do mine? or is it not needed?
Do it asap. It is better to have it instead of paying the fine. Whenevea luck by chance you are stopped they first check the PUC, Insurrance and later vehicle's paper and driving liscence.[:D]
So IMO its better to have our papers clear rather to argue with our 'EDUCATED' cops.

will have to check with the puc sticker given with the car, i haven't stuck up also :D

by the way sat in one of dads colleagues old verna transform. Jeez that turbo is killer and the ac is way much chillier then ours probably cause it had a 160cc compressor and ours has a 120cc[anger] drove his for a few km and i must say this, the brakes are responsive on the newer one it requires a little more effort than you would in the old verna.

A marginal improvement nick, i checked my old records the best ive got is 54 when the yellow light lit up. Have to see once the fuel gets to empty will knw then. The strange this is the FE is good when the car was new now its crazy.
