Our less than two-year old Grand i10 Asta (O) petrol has had its share of niggles and issues but two of them always gave us headache.

The first one being bad clutch which made tak-tak noise on releasing clutch (along with all sorts of thuds, springs and mechanical noises) which felt very uncomfortable in city traffic conditions as the car was very jerky and inconsistent in responding to driver's inputs. Occasionally, it would fight with the driver and get very hard, so hard that your left knee would start complaining after a short trip.

The other issue was with the AC tripping and making some weird hissing noise. On two different occasions, the AC had stopped working on its own and could only work post restarting the car!

So, after repeated visits to HASS, I decided to write to Hyundai again and this time, I was very stern and demanded Hyundai to own the issues and have them fixed. After a few days time, Hyundai regional office in Delhi responded and requested us to bring the car to Deep Hyundai again for allowing them to have another look at the car and get it fixed. Deep Hyundai, Peeragarhi, New Delhi has been servicing our car but failed to fix the reported issues (basically, they gave us some real hard times with regards to these two issues - long story and rant - for some other time).

Today, we took the car to Deep Hyundai service center, Mangolpuri, New Delhi (another workshop managed by Deep Hyundai) and one of their service GMs was already waiting for us to check the issues. He promptly got into the action and immediately acknowledged clutch hardness and juddering. He asked one of their senior technicians to check the clutch and told him to do the needful. Next was the AC tripping and making that hissing noise. He called for his trusted AC technician who checked it and confirmed that the issue is standard in all Grand i10s and Xcents (yes, that's right as they offered us to check it on the other Grand i10 which we did and found the same noise in two different cars). According to them, the AC is being designed in this manner but had no idea about the reason. Anyway, we could have done nothing since the issue (or feature as Hyundai likes to call it
). So, it came down to why AC stopped working on couple of occasions to which they suspected AC thermostat to be the culprit. So we left the car there and they were kind enough to give me a loaner car (a Hyundai i10). By evening time, they informed us the car had been fixed and they had to replace certain clutch parts and AC thermostat. Now, the car is back and the changes are very much prominent. The clutch is super smooth with no tak-tak noise, no juddering and no other weird noises. Feels as good as new! We so wish Hyundai had taken care of it earlier. The AC's hissing noise is still present, which I guess is normal but we are hoping that the tripping issue wouldn't come back. They have done their part, apparently.

I have noticed that a few members have also reported similar tak-tak clutch noise and I hope this update might help them to have those issues fixed. I have attached the work copy for readers' reference.

I had the same clutch issue with that annoying tak tak sound. During the service I informed service advisor about the issue, they fixed it with some lubricant spray but after 2 weeks it again started to make that tak tak sound.
I visited workshop, they promptly removed clutch paddle and some sort of adjustment was done to paddle but that annoying noise again came to notice and this time it was very loud.
I called the customer care of deep Hyundai Mangolpuri that issue is not resolved yet. One of the advisor visited my home and again some lubricant was sprayed but it also lasted for two weeks.
This time I visited workshop they did replaced the paddle and it’s been a while after that. No noise whatsoever.

Hey, how long has it been since you got the clutch paddle replaced? So did it really stopped the tak-tak noise from the clutch?

In fact, they did the same thing to our car too. Sprayed something on the clutch paddle which did nothing. Do you feel any sort of jerkiness while driving in dense traffic conditions? - In 1st/2nd gear while releasing clutch?

Thanks!

Guys, I'm back after almost a year since didn't have anything to update, I had almost lost the battle unless last month when I thought to give it yet another try, and it worked. I escalated the clutch hardness issues one more time writing e-mail on top of my last followup in Aug -2016. I immediately got a call from dealership as well as Hyundai. at the beginning dealership tried to dodge the complaint blaming on my driving style, as usual, However I strictly denied to speak with them and prefer to speak with Hyundai rather, who after 3 days of followup agreed to replace my entire clutch assembly (clutch plate, pressure plate, cable, bearings), I took the car to dealership on Saturday morning 9:30 , the technician assigned to do the job was recently hired and had 9+ years experience on Toyotas. the job was done by 7 PM and I was taken for a test ride with SA, the clutch was super soft , I was the happiest person on earth that day......but for 3 days only.
It started getting harder after 200 KMs on ODO, again observed same trend of getting harder with speed. now not sure what is wrong if not clutch assembly.
Hey SamHyundai, what's the status of your car now? Any progress? Mine was recently got fixed at Deep Hyundai, Mangolpuri workshop. They replaced a lot of clutch vital parts which has resulted in no tak-tak noise/hardness and juddering. I have posted the details in this thread.

Hello, what is the range of rpm fluctuation?
When idling and a.c is on it fluctuated betwen 700 and 1000rpm i guess it is normal.
My car had the same problem few days back and it was rectified promptly. The SA told that rats have spoiled some lead wires and its fine now.

I gave my Xcent for 4th service(paid) @ 29679kms total charge was 4576 rs.
They changed engine oil, gear oil, oil filter and air filter, wheel alignment and balancing and pms.

My service Labor includes, PMS, Throttle body cleaning, Rear drum overhaul, Front disc caliper greasing. Labor cost around Rs.3000

My car clutch is also due to change.

Good to hear Nitin. My car clutch is in initial wear now. SA told we can change in next service, they deny to replace in Extended Warranty.

Hi all
Its time to renew the car insurance again. I started getting calls from Trident Hyundai and other agents in the last couple of months. Surprising the the insurance premiums have gone up quite a bit since last year. It was 12K last year for my 2015 Dec Xcent. This year the quotes are anywhere between 13k and 16k, Even after reducing the IDV (4.87L now) by 10% from last year. On asking why the premiums have gone up, they blame it on GST and IRDA increasing the prices. Anyone renewed insurance recently?

thanks

I paid Rs.12,000 for 3rd year Insurance 2015 xcent 1.2 Petrol S option in April 2017 . It is 3k extra compared to 2nd year.

Hi,
RPM issue has come to another TAI member and it is resolved by ECU reset, will check for the same in HASS.

Do you mean, the soon you walk away from the car without you pressing any lock / request sensor and you expect the car to auto lock ? It doesn't happen so in my Xcent as well and I would thank that it doesn't do so. Say if I have my family in my car, and I step out with the smart key in my pocket to a roadside shop to get something quickly, I would certainly not want it to lock them up inside. It's a desirable feature if this can sense that there is no one inside the car by some motion sensor, and then decide to lock it. But It's a bad idea to lock with people inside, for safety reasons. You have to have an easy escape in case of emergency.

But in Xcent there is a certain case when it automatically locks. Consider the car was locked securely to start with. Now I unlocked the door by remote / pressing request sensor but actually I didn't open any of the doors. That means no one has entered the car. But in a matter of (might be) a minute it auto locks. That's a terribly good feature. Many a times, I unlock it. But then walk back either to talk to someone or get back to do something which I forgot. I might not naturally remember to lock it again. This car does 'autolock' in that case. So that intelligence is there. After unlocking, the car doors were not opened and perhaps then nobody could be there inside - so it is safe to auto-lock. Try this out [:)], this works for me.

I haven't tried this yet, but if you had the key transmitter with you close enough to the sensors (though you used the mechanical key to unlock) - that's enough of an indication to the system that the legitimate guy is nearby. I don't find a reason for it to then sound alarm, though I acknowledge that the security systems like Autocop which I had in my prior cars does fire alarm (but then such systems didn't have an active smart key transmitter with proximity features).

Hi Roby Thomas,

I have seen your latest post in another forum. please update the thread.

Did you ask them about 4th and 5th item ?
Engine cleaning is a waste. They didn't charge balancing weights ? Weird. Did they give you an alignment report ? You can avoid the brake shoe and pads cleaning. If you hear squeaking noise then it should be done. You could have easily saved 4k. Next time check your manual before giving it fot service.

Not sure about the 4th and the 5th item. I should have done research at that time.
what's is done on balancing weights in addition to tyre alignment ? Nothing was handed to me except the bill [anger]

Ask them for your wheel alignment report. If they have done it then they should provide it. I did not know what is done in "Idle Speed Actuator Cleaning" and "CLIP"[roll]
