Re: My Hyundai Grand i10 Asta (O) Petrol Ownership Review

I have few queries with regard to grand i10 petrol.

What's the actual mileage in bumper to bumper traffic for grand petrol ? Will ground clearance be a problem for Bangalore roads and uncoventional speed breakers ? As front seats have integrated neck seats, will it create neck pains on long drives ?

Thanks

You can get average 14-15 kmpl for petrol based on driving conditions in bumper to bumper traffic.

I have been driving mostly around south & central Bangalore and ground clearance is usually not a problem if you can control pothole entry/exit speeds for both front and rear axles. Long and unconventional speed breakers do cause underbody scratch sometimes if your front axle lands down with higher speed, but I have noticed it touches only the chassis beams towards mid portion, only leaving few scratch marks on the underbody coating.

Integrated head-rest for front seats will not cause neck pains in long drives if you adjust back rest angle appropriately. Ability to put your arm straight at top of steering wheel while not exerting pressure at the back is usually most suitable. You can try additional head rest cushions if you may need, like you may have seen in many of the cabs here.

And with the Grand, long drives (even 6+ hrs of continuous non-stop driving) have been very much effortless, as many others on this forum have already noted. [:)]

Is Grand Diesel would be the best choice compared to Grand Petrol in bumper to bumper Bangalore traffic as people complained about the poor performance in second gear and not as peppy as petrol ?

Thanks

How about the ride quality, NVH levels and turbo lag compared with petrol ? I test drove grand i10 petrol and engine is very peppy.

Thanks

It depends upon your usage. If monthly running is low as >1300km, going for diesel is just useless. Just the initial costs and interest will not make sense for such low running. But if your usage is going to 1.5k+, then yes, Diesel it is. My monthly running is 1000km and I am good with Petrol considering the good mileage I am getting.

As far as pickup, Diesel is a little under-powered than Petrol, but I don't think it is very nad like you mentioned.

Apart from turbolag, everything else is same. When I test drove petrol & diesel back to back, I can't differentiate. It has such good NVH levels for a diesel car, Turbo lag is there as every other car. Diesel is peppy, but not like Petrol.

I test drove Diesel in city for good 12kms and never I had face an issue with the performance.

Re: My Hyundai Grand i10 Asta (O) Petrol Ownership Review

My usage in the initial months will be low but on the later stages it might get increased and also post 1 year, I will also be taking to my daily office commute. So the initial running would be somewhat equivalent to 500 - 700 kms but on the later stages it might cross 1300 kms.

If I use it for 300 - 500 kms per month for a diesel Grand , will it increase the maintenance cost for less usage and in anyway will it affects the performance of the diesel engine in the long run ?

Can somebody give the approximate maintenance costs compared with Grand petrol and diesel for 5 years ?

When I test drove the top end petrol variant, I felt that the brake bite is very sharp and I need to cautiously brake to get the feel of it. How to apply the brake at higher speeds ?

@Kbase: I think there would no such difference on maintenance in case of Diesel. There would not be a problem if you run the Diesel car for very less kms.
Some one on this thread already mentioned a link of maintenance cost for petrol and diesel version. You need to look at.

No such issues. I hardly take my SX4 these days and once in a week we use it for our small outing. Since your running will be 500-700 according to your guess(it will be more, always.), and after some time it is going to increase 2xtimes, diesel is the only option.

BTW, why you are not considering Zest? It's 1.3L QJD engine is proven and will not have any pickup related issue if you are worried about that in Grand. If you need CS, get ZEST diesel. For Hatch, get Grand i10.

Thanks HR11 and furious_driver for quicky replying to my queries.

I am still considering Zest and Grand. My preference is to go for a hatch and I already stretched my budget for this and to still stretch for Zest makes me to think.

Get it. Better go for Grand. And regarding brake bites, you will get used to it. And trust me, you will be glad for this. Even though my Xcent doesn't come with ABS, I have been avoided a few hair-line accidents with the help of this brake. So don't even worry about that.

Re: My Hyundai Grand i10 Asta (O) Petrol Ownership Review

I have brought one thro eBay, but yet to install it.
But i have an experiance of installing it in Punto. All you need to do is drill 4 holes (actually you can screw it directly , no need for driller) into the center console in between 2 front seats, to get the base fixed.
Once its done, you can attach the Arm rest using other screws.
I dont think warranty would get impacted as its fixing 4 screws into the plastic part.
Unfortunately i have to take my word back. Its not easy as it was in Punto. The center console is bit big so the bottom part of Armrest is not fitting properly. I had to return back my Armrest. The search continues now :(.
Is there anyone successfully installed Armrest on Grand i10?

I guess motorlover or Gagan installed it in their Xcent.
