5000 kms update:

Just crossed 5000kms yesterday marking 4 months into the ownership. The engine has opened up really well and I am enjoying every bit of it. Got the alignment and wheel balancing done (I make sure this is done every 5k kms). No issues so far other than some occasional rattle from the boot. After damping the parcel tray, there's a huge difference. The latest tank fill gave around 730 kms (this is when the low fuel light came). This includes 25% highway drive and 75% proper city traffic.

Upgrade: Interior Lights

Changed the interior light to LEDs. The one I bought isnt a proper fit but going well. Since there isnt much space to play around, this is the one to buy.

I bought the 16 LED type which is bigger in size (width wise). So it's a tight fit. The festoon bulbs are 30mm in size.

The LEDs are really bright when compared to the stock bulbs. Here are some "before" and "after" images.

1300+ kms drive update

The drive was to Bangalore (a trip that I always take as a benchmark to test the car) covering round 1000 kms on the highway and the rest being the mad rush in Bangalore and Cochin. Here are some of my findings (some being already reported).

1) Car topped up and I was able to complete the run (around 550kms) with little more than half a tank to spare. My return leg was also similar. 100% ACC.
2) Excellent cruiser on the highway. The drive was effortless.
3) As reported earlier, the wind noise (due to the cycle carrier) gets worse during triple digit speeds and I could easily feel the drag.
4) I found the stock headlights pretty good.
5) The car was fully loaded and although the boot is pretty spacious, the wheel well intrusion eats a lot of space. Add the non padded sections and you cant keep any loose items as it rattles. The luggage net that came along with the car was really useful.
6) RPM levels at various speeds
(a) 2000 rpm - 100kmph
(b) 2250 rpm - 120 kmph
(c) 2500 rpm - 140 kmph (am not really sure on this but guess this is it)
Since this was in the powerband, overtaking was effortless.
7) I could feel the heat inside the car pretty badly when compared to the ecosport. Wife also complained that the sun light from the front was really bad.

Current Odo reading - around 6700kms

300 km drive - Highway and Ghat Section

View attachment 184854

Back from a 300 kms round trip through all roads imaginable - Clogged city roads, 2 lane highway, 4 lane highway, a steep and bumpy ghat section and a pretty good off road track paved with rocks. Loved the way it drove in all roads.

Pros
1) Amazing power. Overtakes were effortless.
2) I was able to take the ghat section in 2nd and 3rd gears. Absolutely no need to down shift.
3) Even though this is not a 4wd, it did take the rocky section pretty well. Was able to crawl through without having to fiddle with the clutch.
4) The passengers said the entire drive was comfortable.

Cons
1) Wish steering weighed a bit more. Ford steering was perfect.
2) Well, this is entirely limited to my car. Wind noise due to the bike carrier. Get's bad during triple digit speeds.

Overall the entire drive was too good and am waiting for the next destination in December.

Odo - 4620 kms.

Next update will be in couple in weeks when it's time for alignment and balancing.

Some more pictures.

Looking back these pics again and again I'm very much tempted to visit Nelliyampathy soon.

Can amaze survive these roads ? Did you felt the ground clearance an issue when it comes to these ghat roads??

To Nelliyampathy, the roads are fine. But the road to this resort can be hard for low GC sedans. My friend took his santro without any problem and we happened to see a Swift when we went there before the stay. As you can see from the pics, the middle portion of the road is pretty high and gets worse when it rains. I would suggest you to check with the resort before going.
