The sides have been given CRV styled rear window design, the back looks like the i20 and the front if observed closely looks like a starrish. Never the less nice combination and good looking.

However IMHO, if Honda wants to get right this time(unlike the jazz), Honda should plonk the 1.2 90 HP Jazz engine into it and good size rubber. If Honda gives these things then I may also consider this car.

Honda Motor unveils Brio

BANGKOK: Taking a decisive step to move towards the huge chunk of Indian middle-class segment or what is called the ‘B Plus' segment in auto parlance, Japanese auto major Honda Motor Co unveiled the prototype of Honda Brio, the new small-sized vehicle from its stable, at the Thailand International Motor Expo on Tuesday. The car is essentially being developed for Indian and Thailand markets.

The prototype (Thai version) was unveiled by the President and CEO of Honda Motor, Takanobu Ito, in the presence of the President and CEO of Asian Honda Motor Company Fumikho Ike and President and CEO of Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) Takashi Nagai.

Brio is being developed with Honda's advanced technologies, furthering the company's policy of ‘man maximum, machine minimum concept' and will be produced by HSCI. The car will roll out from HSCI's Greater Noida plant and is expected to hit the Indian market some time in the second-half of 2011. In Thailand, the car is expected to make its debut by March 2011. Giving technical details Mr. Ito said that the car was going to be below 1200-cc and would be much lighter as compared to the others in its segment, was going to be less than four metres in length and was expected to cost below Rs.5 lakh.

Brio is expected to target the segment that covers cars like Swift, i20 and Polo. The car will be produced as per BS-IV norms and is expected to be fuel-efficient.

Interacting with the press post-unveiling, the CEO of Honda Motor explained that it was much necessary for the company to step into this segment, to match the rapid motorisation in India.

Brio is going to be 80 per cent local and Honda is focusing on expanding its supply-chain by 20 per cent.

The company's Greater Noida plant has a capacity to turn out about one lakh cars, and at present the plant is producing about 60,000 cars. “The initial goal is to fill that gap with Brio and later we intend to move to our Tapukara plant in Rajasthan,” said the Vice-President Marketing of HSCI, Jnaneswar Sen.

Clarifying a query on Honda's entry into the diesel segment, Mr. Ito said that the research and development wing of the company was working on it.

Honda has recently unveiled the Brio prototype in Thailand, and it provides us hint of how similar the production version will look like. The designers at Honda have done a nice job considering the size of this car, but I am missing the ‘futuristic’ type looks, which other Honda cars usually have. Even the Chevy Beat is much advanced if it comes to the styling. Also, the launch car in Parrot green colour is not surprising, because this shade is becoming so popular than ever. Now, Check out some pictures of the Honda Brio.

Wow, I am loving this new "Small Car" from Honda, the interiors too are looking really nice, however i am pretty sure that the pricing will surely be disappointing. IMO, if Honda puts in the same 1.2L engine(its ok if its without the VTVT tec) of Jazz which is unlikely, then the rumored tag of 4.5lacs(base variant) is justified. I hope Honda does the pricing well this time.

But Akash at the Thailand prototype release they have said that the engine will be below 1200cc.

If its going to be 1000cc then pricing again is too high!

A 1000cc car at 4.5lacs(ex. showroom, speculated) for base variant is unacceptable atleast to me. If pricing is not done wisely, i am sure Brio will have same fate as that of Jazz.

I like the design [thumbsup]

The boot though seems kinda small like the Chevy Beat's. If Honda does not price it right, the sales is definitely gonna take a beating.

.... light etc makes it look that honda designer carefully saw the beat first. anyways it will do well if priced in wagonr territory. what say guys??
Yes Umang, Honda will set the sales charts on fire if the Brio is prices in WagonR territory, but Brio is expected to target Polo, i20 etc. Also there are rumours of pricing to be 4lac+ for the base variant which isnt good.

No Dhaya,

Honda has not got it wrong this time.

If Honda's 1ltr is capable of churning out 70+ bhp for 4.5 Lkhs, then its the best buy :)
