There are reports Honda small car could be launched much earlier. The plan was for 2011, but it might be launched in Dec 2010 itself.Seeing the effect of Figo, everybody wants to launch ASAP.
End 2010 could even stretch to start of 2011 but definitely the small car will not roll out any soon now as Honda is developing it especially for “Indian” customers. They may have missed the current chance where a load of small hatches has flooded in but seems now Honda will directly take over the competition with Toyota Etios Hatch.

You mean Hot hatch??
Its in the mind of the Honda People only. No way its great on performance or its good looking like any of those European hot hatches.

I will prefer SWIFT any day.

Like other Honda cars, The Small Car will be priced at a Premium!

Honda Siel Cars India Limited will be introducing its next small car in the Indian market by early 2011. According to the official statement from Honda, their small car project is very much on schedule. However, the company states that the car will not be priced for the volume market. Although Honda Motor Corporation Chief Operating Officer (Asia and Oceania) Fumihiko Ike did not explicitly define the volume market it is usually assumed to comprise of cars in India that fall in the price band of Rs. 2-4 lakh. Currently, Ford Figo, Chevrolet Spark, Chevrolet Beat, Maruti Alto, Maruti Wagon R, and Hyundai Santro fall in this segment. "Everybody is looking at the volume market, while historically our cars have always been positioned slightly higher than the volume segment," said Ike. He also stated that Honda will not bring sedan version of its small car whose concept model was introduced earlier this year at the Delhi Auto Expo 2010. The expected price of the car is around Rs. 5 lakh which is priced well-below Honda Jazz that comes at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 7.11 lakh. (Source: Cartradeindia.com)

What Honda should have done with Jazz, they are doing with this small car! Anyways if honda doesnt want to target volume sales then it is useless to argue about premium pricing of jazz or this small car.

@Akash - My sentiments exactly. No point in arguing about the price if its going to be so high. Doesn't look like they have learnt anything from Jazz experience. BTW, you have used the word "should" by mistake (?). They are planning to do exactly what they have done with Jazz. [:)]

@350Z - I beg your pardon but Ford Figo definitely does not fall into the volume segment mentioned (I mean by the sourced information). It is more a competition for Swift, Ritz, i10 (petrol only) and Punto.

It is a pity Honda has not changed its mindset about Indian market.

By that i meant, the price tagged to this small car should have been given to Jazz.

.
Figo is definately in the volume segment. The petrol starts below 4 lakhs, which makes it a volume player.

Honda has gone nuts.In May again there sales have gone down.Jazz is doing 200 odd units a month. They are behind ford too now.
They have to seriously rethink their plans. This is insane!
They need to price the car under 4.5 lakhs to sell it in good no's.
Otherwise they have gone again.

Seems like Honda has still not learnt a lesson after the failure of Jazz! Even after such dwindling sales they are adamant that they don want to enter the volume segment!

Jammy, although the volume thing was not my own statement but Ford Figo does falls into volume category. Ford has far different strategy than of Honda’s and it actually appears that they are keen to grab hold of the hatchback segment and it is happening too! The 20,000+ Bookings of Figo within 2 Months period are the evidence. Now, getting back to the Honda small car topic – from my end, No comments as of now. Because when an overpriced car like Honda City (which lacks some of the basic features) can do well than expectations, then we need to keep fingers crossed about the small car which will wear the precious “Honda” badge, however it is now clear that this car will not target the masses but eventually time will answer whether it is a failure or success.

Cracked! Honda’s new small car is going to be the Brio. It will launch in early 2011. Also, Honda says that the cost cutting will be majorly done by reducing the engine size, without hampering or compromising on quality.
