My car has been covered in layers of dirt without a cover. If washed properly no swirls.Swirls happen is the dirt is ground into the paint, this happens only when washing.

Just came back from the shop, i asked for Champion car cover. Shop keeper asked me the make and model of car. When i told Brio, he informed it's not available. Than i asked for the price, he told if you are taking of DUPOINT, it cost around 3K[roll].

He informed no car cover is water proof, however it is water resistant. I have infibean 10% off coupon valid till today[lol]. So i was thinking of getting a good car cover. Currently i am using the one provided by the dealer as freebie. It is some universal size not with ORVM pockets[;)]

Agreed. Circular motion wipe is a big factor. But thats not the only cause. Swirls are very minute scratches. If a dirty (or a dusty) car is under cover, the breeze that enters the car cover makes the cover rub against the car body and it can create swirl too. You cant avoid such instances and hence waxing and polishing the car regularly can reduce the extent to which the car's paint gets scratched under cover by dust particles. Wiping a dirty car dry(without a bucket of water atleast) can also be a huge factor of swirls.

fabric covers can also cause swirls but the reaon I suggested it because they are much more softer than the synthetic one's and hence the density of swirl marks will be less comparitively.

Bosch aero twins are a pair of more than good vipers. But You dont get then easily. Bosch followed by hella priority wise.
An update on my Brio's wiper:- Bosch wiper took 1 week for delivery from ebay and later I realized it won't fit in. So, returned and ordered Hella's set and it fits in perfectly[clap].

So far working is good and definetly better than the stock ones.[;)]

Poor Mileage

Hello everyone,

I am having a Brio EX MT model and have just completed my 2nd free service which is done at 6 months. My car so far has just done 1000 kms (i know thats pretty low) but since my office is quite far (and cos of heavy Mumbai traffic), i do not use it to commute to office and use the car only on weekends and that too for going to nearby places within the city.

My problem is that I am getting a very bad mileage of 8 to 9 Kmpl in my car, the reasons of which can be attributed to the factors:
1. Engine has not opened up yet
2. Driving on internal roads (mostly in 3rd gear with AC on most of the times)

But even with the above reasons, can the mileage be so low? I initially thought that the mileage will improve after the free services are done but it hasnt shown any improvements at all. The service centre guy too told me the same thing that with more usage the mileage will relatively get better. And all this when i try to follow the rules of the run-in period and also drive the car in proper gears (0-10 1st gear, 10-20 - 2nd gear, 20-35 - 3rd gear, 35-50 - 4th gear, 50+ - 5th gear)

So i want to ask other experienced members of this forum if this is normal because this is my first car and i do not have much driving experience either. But i have never seen any members posting such low mileage figures on this forum [confused]
Any other steps can i take to improve the mileage of the car?

I in the same boat as you with our Ertiga.Done just 1800kms.Mileage is 12-14kmpl calculated using the tankfull method.

Low usage is the main cause for it.The more you use the car for long drives the more the mileage will increase. You can expect an increase after 3000kms.

The best way to break in a new engine is to drive at varied rpms.Try not to drive at the same gear or same speed continuously.

I didn't cross 100kmph till the first 1000kms.Changed the oil after 1000kms.I have found that this method works best for me.Next oil change will be done as per schedule/1 year which ever comes first.

ameyk85 : yep the car is still new; dont bother about mileage till car has done 2-3k. Fault is not with the car but the traffic/road conditions you have mentioned and also short distances you travel.

Re: Poor Mileage

Dont give long halts for your new car. Finish around 2000 kms at different rpm levels. Try using it atleast twice a week till the run in waves bye
Thanks for the advice Ajay. Yes, I do use the car on Sat and Sun and thankfully it does not remain idle for a long period. The practice that me and more or less everyone follows while driving is that at around 2500 rpm we shift to a higher gear. So can u please clarify what do u mean by "finish 2000 kms at different rpm levels" ?

I mean to say that you are better off finishing the initial 2000 kms of your new car as fast as you can. Run-in period generally refers to getting your car habituated to different rpm levels. Keep it below 2000 for the first 500kms then gradually raise it to 2500 rpm till your ODO reads 1000 kms. Once you reach 1000km then it can be till 3k rpm till 2000kms.

Note: Honda brio manual says 1000km run-in. I followed the above mentioned procedure and it is working as per needs. I get a mileage of 14-15 in city and 20 or greater in highways. I do not use much AC in city.

They will definetly change the Oil as, it is listed on things to do during service.

Even I had covered only 5k [surprise] during my 2nd Service.
