Its an AUTOMATIC. So this is a good mileage.
'Somewhat enterprisingly' means, I ignored the transmission, even though I could sense that it was not going to upshift as I accelerated. If you do it gently the transmission will upshift quickly into a higher gear, giving much better economy.
I am amazed that the AUTOMATIC gives 10.5 kmpl with this kind of driving.
I'm sure other AUTOMATICS will give much less.
Some have quoted 6 kmpl (for i10 or santro dont remember) in garbage city traffic.
The other thing is at the stop light, you hold on to the brakes to prevent the car from moving, which in itself must be consuming a lot of energy. (If I lift my foot off, it will take off at 5-10 KMpH). Maruti need to add a autostop/start to their auto cars like Mazda. [I do stop the engine at long signals, but garbage city signals are notoriously 'lazy', even otherwise]
Hope this puts everything in the right perspective!
The A-Star is a very fuel efficient car otherwise (non auto).
