Re: First Drive: Ford EcoSport Test Drive Review

damager21 that was truly an exhaustive list and i relly liked the rear seat arm rest with cup holders option, rear parking sensors with camera, if that dosent look cheap like the one in the new fiesta then thats a surprising add on and i think the Ecosport is Fords first true global product unlike the new fiesta, even though its gestation period was huge i think its worth the wait,if priced well say 7-11 lakh on road this could be surely the next swifts successor.

general populations buying capacity has increased so much and people who want an upgrade from 10,figo,swift,micra etc or from some entry level sedans will have a tough choice between ertiga,Ecosport and Amaze and Sail and as of my view Ecosport has the slight edge because it looks so much new and as the trend variant can be bought with 1.5 tdci and then the addons will give it huge mass appeal, also its the car under 10 lakh with most power and milage, even if swifts success dosent follow ecosports way of success its the best launch of the decade
superb logical move by Ford now pricing will play the rest of its success

Re: First Drive: Ford EcoSport Test Drive Review

Any idea whether Ford will offer 2 jumps seats for the third row to be fit in the boot, as a dealer accessory. I saw the vehicle during Ford display in the city malls. I felt there is enough room to add the third row seating which will be apt for kids .

Iam sorry but incase that is your requirement its better you think of a ertiga or a enjoy or a xuv .

Adding jump seats in the last row and on top of that making kids seat there is a extremely super horrible idea .

Iam sorry I may sound rude here but any parent thinking of adding jump seats in the boot of ES and making their kids seat there would be termed as irresponsible parent.

Even the puppets can't fit well in the boot, take a look

Re: First Drive: Ford EcoSport Test Drive Review

i checked the EcoSport today in MPL Teynampet. To me the back seat space was perfect. i dont see any challenge with leg room. it was pretty decent. The only hindrance was that bar in the lower part of the front seat that might hurt people sitting behind. The boot space looks like a concern to me, but again not everyone travel with jam packed baggages. overall i like the car. it has great road presence and is very modern looking. i think its love at first sight for me [:D]

i agree.. fitting in normal luggage itself is a concern in ES boot and trying to squeeze in people/kids here is unthinkable..

Re: First Drive: Ford EcoSport Test Drive Review

if you want to fit more people then try people movers likes of omni, wagonR, eeco, tata winger, nissan enjoy, ertiga and innova.

ecosport is not a people mover it is just for a family of four adults with a below 10 yrs old kid.

OMG. Just wanted to check if there is a provision to add 2 jump seats thats all. Because duster later provided such option and Safari has jump seats which is meant for kids. Although it is meant for kids, i saw adults seating in those seats many times. I never meant i will place kids in the last row.

Okay, so Ford on twitter has announced that pre-booking is ON by paying 50,000. If true then how come few dealers aren't following the same. I had assumed uptill now that this booking is kind-off semi official and it was upto dealers to book or not.

Its really odd I mean ford has started bookings but dealers are refusing to follow?? Can they do that?

If you want, you can pre-book it here in Chandigarh. Bhagat Ford here has been taking bookings for Ecosport from 15th June onwards. He says he would be getting close to 250 cars in the first allotment out of which 120-130 are expected to be diesel and mostly the higher proportion would be of the Titanium variant. The other dealer Saluja Ford is yet to commence with the bookings I guess as I am yet to hear from their sales guy who has been in contact with me for the past few weeks. Although even I am yet to get the booking done as of now. Have planned to wait till the official prices are revealed and I get to test drive the diesel engine myself.

Yes I have talked to both bhagat and saluja but they won't or maybe can't take bookings from outside their region, as ford has given specific territories to its dealers so as to avoid inter-dealer competition.

Re: First Drive: Ford EcoSport Test Drive Review

Here’s an official update. Ford has commenced shipment of Ecosports across all dealerships in India. Mr.Mulally has arrived in India too. Sharing the press release.

Ford-Ecosport-Delivery.jpg
Ford EcoSports are rolling off the production line in Chennai and being shipped to Ford dealers throughout India. “The EcoSport looks fantastic,” said Ford president and Chief Executive Officer Alan Mulally, who is in Chennai to congratulate the employees. “The Chennai team, together with our supplier partners, have done an outstanding job in delivering our customers a great looking, fuel efficient, safe, compact utility vehicle with impressive functionality and connectivity, at a very affordable price.”

Ford India’s Chennai facility is the third of five plants globally where the Ford EcoSport will be produced. Currently it is being produced in Camacari, Brazil and Chongqing, China (Changan Ford JV) and with production starting subsequently at Rayong, Thailand; and Tatarstan, Russia (Ford Sollers JV). Ford EcoSport is an all-new urban compact SUV developed to serve customers looking for a vehicle that offers capability, value and fuel efficiency. “The EcoSport is a great example of Ford’s leadership in the global shift to fuel-efficient and functional utility vehicles,” said Dave Schoch, president of Ford Asia Pacific. “Utilities are helping drive our expansion throughout the region, particularly in emerging markets, where gowth in the utility segments is exploding.”

According to IHS Automotive, global small utility vehicle sales grew 154 percent between 2005 and 2012. In the coming years, small utilities sales are expected to increase by 51 percent globally. Ford small utility sales are projected to outpace the overall industry, according to IHS Automotive. As part of the One Ford plan , the Ford EcoSport is based on the company’s B-platform, which also underpins its award-winning Fiesta. The company will produce two million vehicles annually on its B-platform by 2015.

Ford’s Chennai Facility

Ford invested US$142 million to produce EcoSport at its Ford India manufacturing facility in Chennai. The investment to expand capacity and improve production-line flexibility means the facility is now capable of producing six different types of car bodies on one line – including the Ford EcoSport. Ten variants of the EcoSport will be manufactured in Chennai for sale in India and export to several markets. The 21-month upgrade process has helped ramp up and bring additional flexibility to the Chennai plant.

‘’The excitement and anticipation around the EcoSport is unprecedented. We are extremely gratified with the response from Indian consumers for this vehicle. The dedicated men and women of Ford India are working very hard to exceed customer expectations, and our dealers have begun accepting EcoSport bookings,’’ said Joginder Singh, president and managing director of Ford India. “With the expanding capability of our plant here in Chennai, we are enhancing our flexibility for the future,” said Dave Schoch, “Growth in Asia Pacific is the cornerstone of our global growth strategy, and having a strong base in India will help us to align production with demand and make the most of these market opportunities.”

Smarter, more efficient production

In addition to growing its manufacturing footprint across Asia Pacific with seven new plants, Ford also is focused on improving the efficiency of its facilities and processes. At the Ford India plant in Maraimalai Nagar, the expansion included the conversion of the stamping press line to higher-capacity, fully automatic production. The stamping process also incorporates advanced white-light scanner technology to measure panels and dies, a touchless inspection method that ensures high levels of accuracy while improving workplace safety.

The Chennai plant was also the first in the world to feature Ford’s advanced Three-Wet High Solids paint process, which delivers a superior finish with high gloss and depth of color, improved durability and better resistance against scratches and stone chips. By eliminating the need for oven baking between paint coats, the process also cuts down on carbon dioxide emissions and reduces the emissions of volatile organic compounds by up to 20 percent compared with standard paint processes.

“These advanced manufacturing technologies and methods show how we’re bringing our best global practices to India, building vehicles to the highest global standards and at the same time, we are making a positive impact on the community here in Chennai,” said Singh. “This reflects our deep commitment to India as a key part of our regional and global manufacturing network. We are delighted that Chennai-built EcoSports will be satisfying consumers not only in India, but also in several export markets, as part of our global growth strategy.”

Brother see the below post what you wrote

Hence I and some thought you are actually contemplating to add those seats in the boot for the kids .
Even if ford offers such thing as jump seats don't please add them since it will solve no purpose .
The jump seats in duster and safari, quanto , Scorpio are actually not safe for kids atall , like you even I have seen many allowing kids to seat there , which is actually a very bad idea .
The safest seat for kids is the middle seat with seat belts on all the time .

Well anyways guys see what I saw today again .

I have seen the ES in closed , private preview 2 times inside out , then saw it again 3 times in the mall , but this the first time I saw it on road among other cars in traffic and this thing which ford has made looks absolute smashing beauty and has a very unusual yet dynamic road presence .

The ES just zip zap zoomed and went ahead of everyone one once the traffic light was green .
