But the classic is a pretty old car which looks just like a thar apart some cosmetic updates. And engine off course but you wont be able to notice.

Being true, older Gurkha looked much better. Eh, I too find this red colored Gurkha looking like a piece of crap. They could have done a lot but they haven't, now what is more crappy than that?? Instead they have made it look even lesser butch as compared to the older vehicle.
Same thing came to my mind bro, does the look qualifies it for being an off-roader?

Older version really is a looker, where Raja has posted the pic in the previous
page. But the current version resembles the long cruiser and seems like nothing has been changed.

Hmm, depends on the nut on the wheel. If the nut is okay then bolts will be intact and if not then...
.
[confused] i did not get you buddy?

Being a M&M, Thar definitely is more PRACTICAL to buy and own. Practicality don't come with only a roof and a front facing second row. There are a lot more factors like A.S.S. availability etc.
That is another downfall for the Gurkha, no good marketing,A.S.S very less presence of their vehicles(Except traveller and trump to some extent)

Just do answer one question of mine buddy:
IS IT REALLY THAT IMPORTANT TO DRIVE A CAR BEFORE COMMENTING ON ITS USABILITY AND PRACTICALITY?? I say Thar is more practical while I have driven none(nor I am interested in driving such vehicles which fells in no-man's land(okay, Iron Rock is also there in that land), the vehicles which are neither the kings on-road nor they are kings off-road).
My only question is, as a car enthusiast, will you keep quiet if you see a new car which is going to be released in the market??

I will again ask same question why is trax crap? Can any one please detail out on this? 2 people claiming that trax is crap and I have no clue why so?

I have not driven any of those. I like Thar more than Gurkha. But the question that keeps bugging me is what is it that makes Gurkha crap?
Because it looks like a crap that is the reason so.And i have already told that its my personal opinion so no-one can change it.

From the business point of view, People wouldn't buy it realistically..

Vipul ?? Vishwas?? I think I have right to ask question?
By all means, there's no-one to stop you.

If iam not mistaken the trax is based on merc g wagon .
It's derived from the old merc G Wagon somewhere in its 70s or 80s,you like these old products coming to our shores?

@ dharmesh But thar was launched just an year back or something.
Thar made its presence in December 2010.

Really, I thought it is age old machine. . Than it is even as of now.
Oh yes it is derived from the MM540, they have changed the mechanical and the body to suit the modern day needs.

You say vishwas nothing has changed then also say old one was looker , so if nothing has changed is it a looker or not ?

Red colour might not look good , but its not only colour they will launch right ?

Iam not against you liking or not liking please don't get me wrong I was just asking why the trax is crap ? And have you driven it ? Because I love how the bolero looks after driving it I found it crap . Hope you understand me here .

My friend has a thar and he himself told me its not a practical vehicle atall , what mahindra is offering in the given price is very less . I know its offroading vehicle but still it's very crude .
Now I heard gurkha too is very crude , so taking that into consideration it boils down too which is better offroader. Maybe experts can enlighten us.

I have driven both of the vehicles and all i can say is that i liked THAR more than Force Trax. I dont know about any other city but here in Shimla i have seen more than 10 new THAR's within a week. My vote will go with THAR. [:D]

Force developing new Gurkha to take on Mahindra Thar:Force Motors developing its Gurkha 4x4 to challenge Mahindra Thar next year | CarTrade.com

Excerpts from the article:

Force Motors, an Indian utility and commercial vehicle manufacturer, has revealed intentions to introduce its Gurkha 4x4 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in the domestic market, somewhere around the second half of 2013. The upcoming Gurkha 4x4 is based on Mercedes Benz's iconic G Wagon SUV platform, which is shipped to various armies and European Union nations by the German auto major.
The yet-to-be launched Force Motors' Gurkha 4x4 is expected to pose some stiff competition against the Mahindra and Mahindra's (M&M) true blood Thar SUV, when it is launched in the country next year. Both the utility vehicles appear overtly mean in terms of overall exterior appearance and road presence, which would make their rivalry even more intense upon their face off.
The Gurkha SUV is anticipated to come trimmed with a number of refined interior and exterior attributes along with a compete revamp in its under-the-hood character. The rugged and classy SUV is anticipated to come fitted with a 2.2 litre diesel motor, which could churn out an impressive maximum power output close to 145 bhp and a decent peak torque delivery around 320 Nm. On the other hand, Mahindra Thar incorporates a 2.5 litre, 2498 cc, CRDe diesel motor that rolls out a peak power and torque equation of 105 bhp and 247 Nm. Respectively. Accordingly, the Force Gurkha looks like a better option as compared to Mahindra Thar in terms of power and performance ratings.
Mahindra Thar is offered to domestic utility vehicle aficionados between a price bracket starting from Rs. 4.5 lakhs and Rs. 7 lakhs in the Indian auto market. As per certain industry sources, Force Motors' Gurkha 4x4 is expected to be launched around a price tag of Rs. 5 to 6.5 lakhs in the country. The two rugged SUVs share pure off-roading DNA and match each other in most aspects. Thar definitely has an advantage over Gurkha in terms of easily availability of spare parts and auto components along with better service coverage provided by its maker on Indian soil. Hence, some fireworks are expected in the domestic utility vehicle market when Force Motors' Gurkha 4x4 gets involved in a turf war with Mahindra Thar in 2013.

Amazing the same topic which we started has now started to catch little momentum(read create decent buzz) in the auto (web)world:Mahindra Thar vs Force Gurkha[clap]

My vote goes for Mahindra thar , Because mahindra has vast service network and price of thar is reasonable only thing missing in thar is hardtop, maybe next improvment in thar will be hardtop. Force gurkha is also a very good Vehicle but it does not have good sevice network as Mahindra and i believe that Gurkha would not be priced below 10 lakhs rupee, so it worth paying ? Gurkha will only sell in good numbers, If force motors can price Gurkha around 8 lakhs, that i dont think they will be able to do.

I will choose a Mahindra Thar as
- Better service network (as mentioned by some)
- More power ( 80BHP for the Gurkha & 103BHP for Thar)
- Thar has more features than Gurkha ( AC , Power Steering )
- Better looking than the Gurkha
- Gurkha is spartan & has poor interior quality
- Price ( Thar is cheaper )
- No spares availability problems for the Thar
Thus , the Thar is more practical than the Gurkha . But the Gurkha is better in offroading but lacks in some major aspects.
