The hell!!
Not even 1.4l T-Jet!!

Shame Fiat, at least give the proper engines to suit the character of the vehicle.

Right. Unfortunately, In India crossover means extra body cladding, some stickers and addition of few features.
T-Jet and 1.6 MJD should have been given at least as a option, and sure this would have differentiated the vehicle from others.

Re: Fiat Punto Avventura "Mini SUV"

Indian tax system is such that if GC is high coupled with engine bigger than 1.5 lit, the car attracts more taxes.
R&D of bigger engine eg 1.5 lit would have lead to spending more funds leading to pricing the Avventura higher than ES.
At present Fiat wants to improve dismal performance on sales chart hence I expect them to price Avventura lesser than ES. And ES is also worried about same, we can see the reflections in TVC, I got a extensive TD of ES recently, previously people use to que up for a TD of 1 km for days together.

It should not become a disaster like etios cross! Already linea and punto sales are low.

I am not big fan of these crossovers/CUVs but one thing is sure that Fiat has produced a better crossover than Polo or Etios. Except black cladding around the vehicle the latter two did not provide anything different over original models.
But Avventura wears more (& better) cladding, houses a wheel on back door and has better interior styling than its original. But prices might ruin it if it is placed in the range of 8.5 laks ,as reported in this thread.

They have the impressive T-jet. The only petrol engine doesn't get excise benefits. So why Fiat has decided to go with the mediocre engines from the Punto? Does its product planning department has people who used to work in our government offices?

Re: Fiat Punto Avventura "Mini SUV"

On serious note, opening the hatch in tight parking space is nearly impossible, as the spare tyre assembly would require the extra radius space to open up the hatch boot.

Looks wonderful, with some off roading gizmos, but would it be accepted by Indian buyers?

Only time will tell.

All the best Fiat India.

Its high time you bring in other models from your international line up to India. Stop playing with the two models you have. You cannot grow in this way.

Hmm.. Mediocre engine, will you please elaborate? Which engine is better than it at similar cost?

Indians who have used/seen EcoSport which has similar opening for the boot door will not have problems with Avventura, but best wishes for others [;)]

As rightly pointed by Tornado, the existing engines can not be termed as Mediocre as they develop 89 & 92 BHP respectively. Looking at the Car size (hatch) it has, this is enough power!, Don't forget even Ciaz/Ertiga & SX4 runs on 89 BHP mills and they don't feel underpowered.
But agree that T-Jet & 1.6 MJD sure would have been as optional engines for enthusiasts.

I haven't driven the 1.4 petrol punto or any other car in the car in the segment, just what I learnt from various reviews. Its not the engines per se, but the gearbox that needs change. The same engine with Maruti, Tata and even Chevy is much much better. Fiat's tuning is simply pathetic that there is a noticeable lag below 2200 rpm for the diesel. I have used 3 applications of the multijet, old Swift(sold), Sail U-Va, and Vista. When compared to these cars, Punto with its heavier body and poorly chosen ratios are in a whole level lower.

The engine benchmark for the segment is VW's 1.5 tdi. I look for driveability in cars. I feel Renault's 1.5dci with 65 bhp power is much better than 1.3 multijet with 75 or 90 ps.

Re: Fiat Punto Avventura "Mini SUV"

It is definitely difficult to hit the sweat spot AtoFA pricing concerned with 1.5 or 1.6 engine, ES had benefit of possessing it in the stock sedan.
For this size, diesel Punto produces 209 nm torque, I must say, it is adequate for Indian road conditions.

I don't think, price wise it is going to be equal 1.5 polo, else vw could have easily got it under the hoods of polo Cross.

Well, let's wait for Aventura TD to talk about gear box.

For ES, one could open it slightly atleast, if not completely. The spare wheel is mounted onto the rear door.

But in case of Avventura, the spare wheel assembly first has to be moved out completely to make the hatch door open-able. [cry]
