How Can I Get a Certain Special Registration Number?

I will be registering a new vehicle in the near future, and I want a certain number (AP4AP4) that may be already given to someone else. My PA found out from the RTO that the number has already been handed out. All the other fancy numbers availably aren't of my preference. How can I attempt to get my vehicle registered with the number of my choice if it has been handed out already. If I can get in contact with the owner of the number then will it be possible?

Hi Billa,
I am from hyderabad too and have You finalized the vehicle.You should have the address proof from where you get the car registered. AP04 is Kaddapa district and the number U wished is already taken for NISSAN Micra. There is no way of negotiating with the owner there is no transfer of numbers still available in India. Think of another number and I will be happy to help You.By the way my number is 0001 for Hyndai I20

Thanks for the reply.I am finalizing the vehicle in a few hours, and it will take 4-6 months at the least for delivery, and thanks for the input. Thats all I needed, so I guess I'll just keep it as TR plate.

Just put a good offer and buy his nissan micra.

and then transfer the SUV's number to the micra and vice versa.

Also, if you dont want the Micra, you can gift it to me.

[evil] Lol, your giving me evil thoughts. I highly doubt this will work out though cuz its too much work, and the above guy said that there was no number transfer system. Once my Q7 is delivered, I'll keep it with the TR plates. That shouldnt be a big issue right? Theres many cars in my villa community that have been with TR plates for a long time.

No, I mean seriously. Plates can be transferred, atleast here in PB they can be, in AP, I dont know.

I meant that here in Punjab, if you have two PB registered cars, you can interchange their plates by taking permission from the RTO.

In Andhra, I dont know.

As per the advisory of the Transport Ministry of India, if someone sells his car to a buyer, the seller can retain the old registration number and the buyer will have to apply for a new number for the same car. In the owner wants to scrap the old vehicle, owner will have to present the record before the local RTO, then only one can use the same number for a new vehicle. The charges for the same will be nominal, but it will be at RTO’s discretion to accept or reject the transfer of the old registration number to a new vehicle.

Yes this is known and the only clause is that the old vehicle has to be scrapped.I dont think the Nissan Micra owner will do.If I can retain my number when I sell my car I will be a very happy person and thanks for the info.Please let me know if its available in AP too.

PS 2: I'm a lawyer, I'll find a way around the scrapped clause.

Omg, you guys are gonna end up getting in a huge mess. Leave it, I wont do so much just for a number. And, why is it a big deal if I keep it TR? I kept fortuner as TR for almost a year, and never had any issues at all. I was never stopped or questioned.
