The only reason that San Storm didnt sell was because of the fact that it didnt have a Hard top version.
Otherwise it was a great car.

Personally, I too quite like the car (Check the given link) but hey, It's only the soft top/convertible which makes it distinguished and unique in India, at the price tag of approx. Rs.6 Lakhs.

nobody named storm and chinkara?? [surprise]they are most failed cars in india!!
Well,
the Chinkara Roadster was basically a sports kinda car, not really meant to be an everyday car. I don't think it even had showrooms and dealerships.
Check out the image and you will understand what I'm saying.

+1 to that. But many bits here and there are questionable, and Af.SS too.

escort, cielo & astra were launched together in 1996.

cielo failed immediately owing to its high maintainence & very low fuel efficiency (some even complained getting 6 kmpl on a new cielo!) but the car was very involving to drive.

escort held for some more time as it had a diesel engine which neither cielo or astra offered. but it was low on features. soon it also faced a tragic end.

astra was the one which still held on. it was feature packed & came with a great ride quality & german build. FE was average & maintainence was high but still it was perfect for indian roads. soon OHC was launched & indians were impressed with Jap's reliability, FE & performance. astra died a slow death.

Not sure if any one discussed about Mondeo here.
Great car, but an epic fail. I got a chance to see it in a ford service center. Man it was spacious. May be high maintenance cost and ASS at that time made it fail.

We forgot this babe. It had the love me or hate me looks. I loved it! The 2.2 l engine did justice to the monstrosity! Great space as well!

But then again, it was nothing but a FAIL!

i wish i had this beauty. some of the features it had-

1) cruise control
2) tyre pressure monitoring system
3) front & rear sensors
4) vehicle info display in the centre
5) climate control system
6) ABS + TCS + Stability control + ESP + EBFD + CBF (!!!!)
7) electronic sunroof
8) xenon headlights
9) 2.2 engine making 140bhp
10) rear AC vents

Other small things like one touch operation for all power windows, the classy interiors, the refinement, the sublime ride quality, the german build quality, etc.

All this features may seem okay now, but in 2003, this car was the first to introduce all this in the indian market in a price tag of 18L!

even today, many cars in this price & even some mercs dont have some of the above features!

Some strange things in vectra:
1) "Opel chose the Vectra to re-invent the turning indicators. There are no positive clicks left or right. Instead, you simply dab the stalk naturally, the indicator blinks until cancelled - this is the tricky part. To cancel the indicator, you merely prod the indicator in the other direction but you invariably tend to overdo it and start indicating that you're going the other way."
2) "The switchgear pod for the electric mirrors and power windows
is another confusing design. A pair of buttons share the operation of the front and rear windows via a sliding collar switch which has to be set for 'front' or 'rear.' "

i love the vectra! i love opel!

OT: coming to that, i figured out that my choices are quite unconventional. i dont like maruti, honda, toyota, RX 100, bullet etc. as is the norm. but i love mahindras & opels! Simply put, i dont like puny cars built with plastic like sheet metal in the name of reducing weight for more FE. i prefer tough outer shells & heavily built cars! i dont care about performance or free revving engine much but i adore a cossetting ride & refinement.
