Re: Buying a Dashboard Camera – Advice & Discussions

Im looking for a dashcam with good video quality that can be fixed behind the rear view mirror to preserve cabin look and view area. screen not needed as il never watch. they should record on a memory card. i wont mind hadwiring to cabin light as i dont like wires going from usb up till the cam. Willing to get from aliexpress over 30 days or so. Any suggestions ? budget upto 4k.
Although not a widely v brand, I recall one of my friend using Anytek Car DVR. He bought it via Aliexpress. It has 170 degree viewing angle, has non-touch screen , auto start, overwrite protection, G Sensor recording, motion detection etc. The only problem is it doesn't have an inbuilt GPS- has to be connected to external GPS. Going by friend's description, it seems a decent cam and the license plate numbers in day and night mode is recognizable, so you can buy it if interested.

Got details from him. He bought the Anytek Car DVR AT66A Black color model for around Rs.6,000 (including DHL shipping). If you opt for free shipping the dashcam will cost around Rs.3,500 only.
Screen is better for setting various options on the fly and to review videos. When you get cam with screen within budget (Just saw there are Rs.1000 dashcams with screen on Aliexpress !), why opt for dashcam without screen, except for the fact that it will be even more discreet .
In any case, since no one I know uses dashcam without screen, I am not in a position to suggest one. Hope someone else on forum can help you out.

Re: Buying a Dashboard Camera – Advice & Discussions

I had for long eyeing the Transcend DP 220. It was priced quite economically at 9K even a couple of months back. My bad, just when I finalized the plan of getting a dashcam, its price for some strange reason skyrocketed to 13K. Plan cancelled.

Instead, I am getting an SJCAM, the one with WiFi. Will use with as a dashcam when I am driving, and for 170deg videos when I am not. Will get it from Amazon as NCR does not have an offline store.

Any feedback, or suggestions?

My friend is also using SJcam SJ5000+ model. It is excellent. One year back he got it for INR15000.
Video Quality is very good. Its waterproof(when kept in casing provided with it) function is also useful. We are using it while swimming as well.

For using as dashcam it should have auto start, overwrite protection, G Sensor recording and motion detection, atleast average night mode clarity. Check if these features are available before buying it.

Re: Buying a Dashboard Camera – Advice & Discussions

Don't think it has any of the features you mentioned, but yeah night mode is average. My daily travel is 15 kms., with highway travel once in 2 months. As such, I do not wish to use it for dashcam-dashcam, but only for 'recreational' purposes as I love watching the wide angle terrain videos. So its more of a video camera cum dashcam, not the other way around. I would have tried using the Transcend DP220 the other way around, but it can't.

Is it possible for you to check with your friend the SJ4000 model? As in all likelihood, I am getting that one.

I like you to suggest to Go For Xiaomi Yi Dashboard Camera - available in Ebay India - price some what 6k +/- , If you wait for the moment (Coupon) you can get it in your hand less than 5k. As you like to watch wide angle terrain videos as recreational purpose (same here) , it produce far more better picture than Transcend 220 with half of the price. Xiaomi Camera also support upto 2k resolution at 30fps.

For complete Review of the unit please see the post number #159 of this tread.

For 6.5K this is a very decent unit with lots of useful features. If I had ran into this thread earlier, I would have definitely bought Xiaomi Yi. Currently using a chinese product named Spy Tec which also has only 3MP (same as the Yi) and the quality appears to be same as yours:

Re: Buying a Dashboard Camera – Advice & Discussions

Hi,

Here is my Dash Cam Video Sample Footage ...
Are you using the GT300? I see you have placed the dashcam right beside the black dotted area of the windscreen, has the dashcam ever come out / fall off?

I am using the GT300, and had placed it ON that black spotted area of the windscreen for a few months, after which the dashcam used to fall of frequently. I cleaned the windscreen area as well as the suction cup several times, still it falls off. I wanted to place the dashcam in that area since it doesnt obstruct the front view and also does not cause any distraction if otherwise placed in another part of the windscreen. Not sure why the dashcam keeps falling off. I am also searching for a rearview mirror bracket/mount for the dashcam so that i can fix it on the rearview mirror instead of depending on fixing it on the windscreen using a suction cup.
