Re: Buying a Dashboard Camera – Advice & Discussions

@Maulik
Indeed, every time I have to do it on and off and in case I forget to switch if off then on the next drive I have to wait till it gets a bit charged.
xiaomi dashboard camera looks good, thinking of getting one for my car.

Just check if it needs to be switched on and off manually every time you go for a drive; that is irritating at times I can tell you.

Both of my cars are running absolutely fine with nothing to complain at all; that's some sales related issue which I have complained of.

Yeah that sure is nuisance sometimes. Still checking out the technical details and the battery life too seems short at just 15 min.

Apart from dashcams which I plan to use as a normal video recorder, and also the vice versa, I am also evaluating in my Sony handycam and mobile phones for recording. Does anyone have that setup? How are they connected to the lighter socket if at all?

For Dash Cam :-

1. The Video Files recorded at the Memory Card is 1min/3min/5min length and the size will be 100/300/450 MB so that it can be share easily with Cop or YouTube (For Fun) as you may seen in this thread.

2. Dash Cam Don't need to manual power on / off - Once your car IGN / ACCI on the Dash Cam start recording itself.

3. Dash Cam has very small or NiL battery inside - because it intended to use car's power socket...The battery usage only for shut down and save the important clip....or the internal battery usage only the time when the car's battery not anymore.

4. There is Loop recording - which over write the non important or normal video unprotected video when the card is full...so user don't worry about anything.

5. This is your Car Surveillance system - Hence Dashcam need to ON from the minute you out with your Car from the Garage and OFF when you park the car again back at home in your Garage... Hence it designed for that way.

6. Protected video file during the time of a collision or shock - Not possible to delete accidentally.

-------- Hope I cover every thing here------- Now tell me which mobile phone / Handy Cam / (Action Camera - no idea about file size or shooting interval ) - Do this ------ All need manual switch on / off ----- Huge FHD or 4K recording File ----- Then battery needed charge ----- Clean up / Empty memory Card ------ So much chorus to do ----- For user.

------------------

Only negative I can find about Xiaomi Yi Dash Cam is - Not possible to turn off completely the G- Sensor.

Dear Arijitb, there is absolutely nothing on your note that I do not agree with!

The only reason I am evaluating options is, my daily drive is hardly anything, and my off city drives are probably one in a couple of months. So investing around 10K in a dashcam NOT as a surveillance camera but a fun way to record the infrequent long drives, is not something I am particularly enthusiastic about. Hence, I asked if I can use other cams as a part-time dashcam.

Anyways, courtesy this thread and your inputs, I think I have enough material to ponder upon. Will come back and let you folks know of my decision, if at all. Thanks everybody.

For this case - I like to suggest to opt Windshield Mount Smart Phone Holder with 90' Tilt facility from reputed brand like Capdase and use existing Phone Camera to record fun driving video. These days almost any smartphone (even mid range phone) offer decent camera module to shoot around.

Re: Buying a Dashboard Camera – Advice & Discussions

Placed order for Dash Cam from GearBest, got a deal for just around 1.2k.

Now the wait starts for my first cross-border purchase. [roll]

Fingers crossed. [evil]

Sample Video

Initially placed order for this dashcam under 1k, but on close scrutinize, seemed a look-alike of GT300, hence cancelled it right away, and ordered the GT300 which costed 1.2k.
Still no signs of the shipment which was out of the warehouse on 28th March. [cry]

Re: Buying a Dashboard Camera – Advice & Discussions

Finally, initiated for refund. Sigh!

Now the saga of short listing starts again.

Should i go with ebay product? Or buy Blaupunkt one with 2 years warranty, at the cost of additional cost difference?

Ebay Dash Cam

Blaupunkt
the ebay listing has ended. what was the price of it ?

it's better that you order from aliexpress.com and not buy this blaupunkt. uploading video quality of the blaupunkt and the novatek 96650 that i ordered from aliexpress. huge difference. novatek was 3k and i bought balupunkt for 2k in sale.

blaupunkt day. night is not that good.

It was around 2.5k.

As of now, all purchases kept on hold and funds diverted for the Himalayan to arrive. [:D].

Anyways, thanks for the input, will definitely short list dash cam after a couple of months.
