Re: Buying a Dashboard Camera – Advice & Discussions

Is this the same bridge fell yesterday?

It was a very unfortunate incident. [cry]
No...this is not the same one - collapsed one still under construction and situated in very important part of the city.

God Forbid - If this one go down like yesterday's one it may take the crown of all disaster in the world (and nomination will be in the category of 1. Man Made Corruption 2. Negligence of the Authority etc etc).

Re: Buying a Dashboard Camera – Advice & Discussions

Hi guys, I ordered a dashcam for 3.2k from aliexpress. While tracking the courier I saw status as 'held at customs'. What does it mean?

I read a quora post saying I need to pay custom charge for it and within 2 months else it will be auctioned off. If this is true then how do I pay to the customs directly / contact them?

‘HELD AT CUSTOM’ means, the article is under the custody of custom authorities for evaluation and levying custom duty if need be.

If it is by post, they open it , check up the price online and repack it and send to you through local post office with order. You have to pay the Custom Duty to the post man and get it.

If it is by courier, they normally never open it, check with courier value and apply CD and recover from courier and send to you through courier and you have to reimburse the courier.

READ THIS THREAD & POST for complete details and understanding.

My Dashcam was with customs for more than 2 months. better dont contact them. instead contact aliexpress and tell them that your item is struct at customs for so many days. You may get a refund if its more than the expected delivery time.

if you need to pay custom duty/fine, they will send you a letter asking you to pay a fine and apologize to release your item.

Thankyou Dr mudhan for the explanation. I had checked your post on page 5 & 6 on the above mentioned link before deciding on which one to buy but didn't check the discussion on its previous pages.

As per my understanding of what I read, I can send back the parcel for reassessment if they charge CD heavily. But at the same time I will not get any support from AE or the seller incase I reject the courier if I send it back for reassessment. Am I missing something here?

Which model did you order? The one with 96650 chipset or the other one. And I don't get why I need to apologise them to release my parcel if I am paying them the custom charge

Now, you are right as indicated here:

Be patient and if the CD amount is less than Rs. 1000/- better to pay and get it to avoid unnecessary extra efforts and mental agony.

We should always have a mindset to pay CD whenever we buy through any international courier as they are subjected to custom clearance individually to get cleared.

Aliexpress will have the track with registered transshipment and nothing to do with custom payments and it is always at buyer’s risk.

May I know the cost of the dashcam and also on where you bought this from?
Also, why is the video so fast?

@soap: I had purchased the DVR from Amazon for Rs.11500/-. The price has now reduced to Rs.9900/-.
Transcend 16 GB Drive Pro 220 Car Video Recorder with: Amazon.in: Electronics
The video is fast because the recording is done in 3min blocks. To make it a full movie and then upload will require a huge amount of time, space and data usage. Hence while compiling the movie I increased the speed from 1x to 4x.
@Arijitb: I use windows movie maker to make movies. It recognises the recorded format (.mp4) and the output is also in .mp4 format which is required for uploading on You tube. I have windows 10. I am not sure (actually dont remember) if the speed change feature of windows movie maker is available in Windows 8/7 or earlier versions.

Same as mentioned. Windows Movie Maker. The option to increase or decrease the video speed in under the "Video Tools Edit" Tab. As i said before I dont remember if this feature is there in earlier versions of Windows.

You can check in the following path:
my computer>c drive>program data> Microsoft > Windows> Start Menu > Programs
else, it should be under "M" in the start menu> all apps tab

Top Bottom
