Re: Buying a Dashboard Camera – Advice & Discussions

Thanks 'Double Oh' for your tips and it worked - Got the Windows Movie Maker (WMM) - My Computer is Fresh Win 10 Pro install, hence there is no pre installed WMM, anyhow the tricks worked. But it loose on the quality though....Looks like shot in VGA Cam.

The Best one can be yield from the WMM if user choose the video file for High Def Display.
My 1.17 GB Dash cam Video File for 4x speed shrink to output settings
For You Tube - 97 MB
For Computer - 107 MB
For High Res Display - 463 MB
But thanks for the post to let me know - Looking for this since I got the Cam.

Yes arijitb I know. Thats a penalty that has to be accepted unless and until you have the disk space, time, and data usage facility for approx 500mb / movie in HD mode and normal speed. But then 4x speed for longer movies is not bad.
Congrats !! Now you can also play around with WMM.

@arijitb
no issues mate. always welcome. its a nice place to drive, however, last time i was there i got caught in a terrific jam and was able to get off the last 1km onto EM Bypass in about 45mins. But then i agree it was evening 8pm or so. peak office hours.
nice video. one suggestion. seems you have placed the cam left biased i.e. more on the passenger side. suggest you shift it more towards center, maybe behind the IRVM. Also suggest that you keep the lower one inch of the video on your bonnet end so that in case some one accuses you of rear ending them you have adequate proof that you were at a safe distance. And do maintain safe distance. Dash cam can be a boon and a bane.

Thanks for the suggestion - you are right it is in the Top Position of the Co-Passenger Wind - Shield - Can't put behind IRVM due to some Dot stuff - If I lower the position it blocks some view and create Blind Spot.

You can Check my Cam position here at post number 134 of this thread.

But you are absolutely right about Rear Ending Blame...need some adjustment.

Re: Buying a Dashboard Camera – Advice & Discussions

wow!! your dash and screen seem to be filled with gadgets.[:)]
what are all the things? some kind of cctv camera above the driver? on the sun visor??[lol]
a mini fan??? behind the odo??[surprise]
and extreme left? MMI? if so is that not a risky place to install it? or is it a rear view camera?
ok as far as the dots go they are nothing that is going to be affected if you stick your dvr on it. The frits are in between the laminated windscreen glass. So i suggest you shift your cam behind the IRVM.

Go pro is going to be too much for a dash cam - price wise - if you own one then ok - but for the dash cam purpose spending that much not worth it - IMHO.

here is one from Xiaomi - available in ebay in around 7k - picture quality is stunning - check this UK video review - Video quality looks quite nice though.

@10-years-of-lets-go (do you own a '06 Alto BTW?)

I am using a gopro as a dash cam and it's actually good enough for the job. Being 8mp; all I can record is for just 2:44 hours even on 720p in a 32GB card.

Additionally it has a battery which doesn't last really long. So have to keep it connected for whole time but then it has an another issue, at times it sort of disconnects itself from charger and goes off within minutes.

Anyone else using go pro for the job? Please suggest me the solution to problems I am facing. Mine is a Go Pro Hero+ with wifi.

@Arijitb
Is that Xiaomi Yi? I am contemplating to get 2 pieces of the same for myself.

This is Xiaomi Yi Dashboard Cam - which got feature like loop recording / shock sensor etc - all the features that Car Dashboard camera required.

This is not Xiaomi Yi Action Camera -

To differentiate both models - This Dash cam got a back LCD which is missing at Action Camera as well no round LED glowing On/Off button in front of the body which is present Yi Action Cam.

Thanks Arijitb. I do not have a Go Pro yet. I am actually contemplating getting a dash cam, and just a couple of days ago, I started thinking of why not couple its usage with something else, maybe an action camera - that way I will get to use it both as a dash cam and for our infrequent adventure freak-outs, for the price of one. For quite a while, I have my eyes fixed on Transcend 200 or 220. Will check up your suggested one as well.

Dear TSIVipul, yes, mine is a 2006 Alto LXI X-Fun model. And since I am celebrating its 10th anniversary, am planning for some internal/external embellishments! Actually, while I wanted to go for the Silver 4 version, however, considering its steep price of 35K, I don't think its immensely VFM as I am not into adventure sports.

Dear Maulik9999 - I plan to have it fixed only on my long drives, as I love watching drive videos.

@Maulik
Indeed, every time I have to do it on and off and in case I forget to switch if off then on the next drive I have to wait till it gets a bit charged.
