Re: Upcoming Commercial Vehicles in India

Tata is giving its 407 a new look:

The headlights looks big, maybe they could have reduced it to some extent, anyway this looks better than the age-old looks the current version has.
Not much changes in design wise, i see this model has 6 wheels does the current model too carry 6 wheels?

Re: Upcoming Commercial Vehicles in India

Do TATA 407 come with 6 wheels? I guess the 6 wheels one was 609 or something like that.
Tata 407 comes with 2 ranges

i. 4 wheel type for light applications( cargo/courier/volume based )
ii. 6 wheels for heavy application for better traction (sand/bricks/ Load based )

PIAGGIO INDIA TO REPLACE MINI WITH PORTER RANGE OF PICK UP TRUCKS TO TAKE ON TATA ACE ZIP AND MAHINDRA MAXXIMO

The Piaggio Mini pick up truck that comes with a 0.5 ton capacity isn’t doing well in the Indian pick up truck market. Therefore, Piaggio India plans to replace the Mini pick up truck with the Porter range. The Piaggio Porter range of mini pick up trucks are expected to be available in half ton and 0.75 ton variants. While the Piaggio Porter 600 will replace the Piaggio Mini and take on the Tata Ace Zip, the Piaggio Porter 1000 will come with a 0.75 ton payload and will take on the likes of the Tata Ace and the Mahindra Maxximo. The Piaggio pick up trucks could be launched in India next month.

AFAIK,

Powertrain almost same the only thing is the differential.
4w GVW - 5700kgs
6w GVW - 5300kgs

loadbody length is little different
tire size - 4w - 8.25X16
6w - 7.5X16

Re: Upcoming Commercial Vehicles in India

AFAIK the piaggio's mini truck was launched just 2 years back, they are thinking over again? There are no good competitiors for the ace and ace zip.
Ace is a an established product and a strong brand by itself and it won't be easy for other's give a tough competition to Ace, Maximmo barely manages to touch a decent 4 digit sales number in a month even though it packs more technology. with competitors like Maxximo and Dost and the big Ace occupying more than 50% market share it will be interesting to see what route Piaggio will take .

Re: Upcoming Commercial Vehicles in India

Piaggio has 4 tyres at the back, surely doesn't look like 0.75 ton vehicle. Even ace doesn't has it, nor does Dost. Whatever maybe the case, I don't think Piaggio can take 'Chota Haathi' head on.

Re: Upcoming Commercial Vehicles in India

Couple of years back, Tata purchased CV maker Hispano of Spain, one of largest global manufacturer of buses & CVs. I have been waiting to see those on Indian roads, but till date in vain. [anger] Hope Tata launches them ASAP, probably launch of Scania may propel them to do so. The 2nd pic bus is one of the best seen, looks better than Volvo too. Some pics -

It's a known fact that Tata isn't doing well with its divo or hispano, but i haven't heard of hispano very much, i think man or marco-polo rules for cv in spain.

But what stops Tata in bringing them to India ? If they can succeed with daweoo trucks, why can't with hispano buses ?

Viswas,

Both Hispano and Marcopolo are coach manufacturers.

Hispano Carrocera was a Spanish company and renamed as Tata Hispano in 2010 after it was fully taken over by Tata Motors.

Tata Hispano designs, manunufactures and sell bus/coach bodywork on all major European bus chasis OEMs.

Marcopolo is from Brazil and is a major bus body designer and manufcaturer.

Tata Motors has a Joint venture with Marcopolo - Tata Marcopolo Motors Ltd head quartered in Dharward.
