synthetic oil will make engine smoother ????
Well Synthetic oil is much better than mineral oil as it helps the engine to perform better since the oil sticks to the necessary places in engine and avoids damage to it at the time of driving and while starting in morning. The sound of engine too is slightly reduced and ride does get smoother. I use Liqui moly synthetic oil for my Esteem and since its an 8 year old vehicle so I can feel the ease and noise reduction in it's drive now. Also, the changing interval of synthetic oil is 10,000 kilometers as compared to mineral oil being changed at every 5000 kilometers. Synthetic and Semi Synthetic oils are also slightly costly than mineral oils.

Synthetic oil typically has a lower friction rating and a viscosity that varies more consistently with temperature. This means your engine would usually not have to work as hard to move the car along.

Normally, there is a noticeable difference in smoothness, performance and economy although this can vary between cars.

Synthetic oils are backwards compatible with mineral oil which means there is NO need to do an engine flush. In fact, and engine flush is actually harmful for an engine because these chemicals can interact with the oil. Sometimes, engine flushes have actually been related to cases of engine seizure and component failure.

Your car's oil change interval is 10K km on mineral oil as per Maruti, though me too change oil at 5-6 k km interval, since it will take almost 1 year to complete that Km.

In my opinion, we must strictly stick to the manufacturer's recommendation about the type & grade of Engine oil & all other fluids. There is a lot of R&D behind those recommendations & we must respect it. The key aspect is to follow the maintenance schedule with respect to vehicle usage parameters & time.

what kind of economy u mean bro. [confused] one thing is sure you are not talking about fuel economy [:)]
I am talking fuel economy. Usually using a better oil results in better mileage, although specific numbers may vary.

As we've discussed on other threads, these recommendations are based on averages/assumptions of an immense range of factors from temperature, driving style and most importantly - cost.

With this in mind, when done properly there is nothing to lose from adapting one's car to their own usage.

The list you have given us is just a list of brand names. Each of the above names has many specific variants of oil under them. If you want sound advice, please specify exactly which variant, viscosity or composition oil you are considering.

My recommendations would be Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5W40, Castrol Magnatec Diesel 15W40 or Shell Rimula T4 15W-40 CI-4 Plus.

Viru & all Gurus,

I have a question. I am using same engine oil(Servo 20 W 40) in my esteem and my suzuki GS 150 R. I bought a 5 ltr can and filled 3.5 litter in car and 1 ltr in my bike. In bike within 1500 km, oil become very black and we can feel the need of oil change but at the same time in car even after 6K km, oil still in a golden colour or not darkened like in bike. Why this difference? both are petrol engines.

these oils are Synthetic are semi Synthetic [confused]

castrol magnetic didn't have api ch4 [surprise] see the details

Castrol Magnatec - Product
None of these oils are mineral.

Yes, the Magnatec Diesel oil is CF rated. However, to put this in perspective the Tata recommended oil for your car (Castrol GTX Diesel) is rated at just CC.

You know what, I had the same question when buying oil for my vehicles quite a while ago!

In truth, both products are pretty similar, However, they have slightly different properties in terms of the conditions they are subjected to. Motorcycles oils often contain more anti-wear agents, since the quantity of these is limited in car engine oils to prevent damage to the catalytic converter. Further, since motorcycles are air-cooled, the oils are typically designed to handle less temperature stability and hotter engine temperature. This is as far as my research went back then, I'm sure there's more to learn!
