OMG, I have hardly driven 50 kms! Something probably went wrong. But then, if the vehicle runs fine, the oil is not something whose color really matters . But I think I need to use the phone. And, on a lighter note, MSN1, you should type ASS in caps, or the meaning changes

As I said previously, this discoloration is perfectly normal (and actually a good thing) in not only Diesel but Petrol engines as well. It happens faster when switching to Synthetic because synthetic oils have stronger detergents which cleans out the residues left over by previous oil changes.

I'm assuming this means you changed the oil filter?

Sorry for my previous and confusing posts, but for the third time, I did change the oil filter, despite the fact that it was not a branded one [:)]. I made the last post because the others were reporting higher numbers, so I was in doubt. Thanks, and now I'm done for this oil change. Will post 10000 kms later to trouble you [glasses]!

Thank you, seriously.

Is your vehicle Petrol or Diesel? If it is a petrol one then I guess they are using a semi synthetic oil that lasts for 10,000+ kilometers. Please check with TATA ASC. If they are using a mineral oil for engine then it needs to be changed at 5000 kilometers.

At 1000 there is no need for an oil change so do not worry. It would be a "Free Service" that comprises of general check up and washing and excludes labor charges.

AFAIK, engine oil should be changed after the first 1000 kms. After that, you can stick to manufacturer-recommended oil intervals. And yes, do not put Synthetic Oil for the first 10,000 kms. Wear and tear is good for new engine.

hi shrid can you tell me what oil good for my 2.2 ltr vericore pride i suppose to go with mobile super 1000 mineral oil is that ok?
I'm not the expert here, but my usual advice is "as long as you can afford Synthetic oil fill it in. Synthetic oils provide better lubrication, which means your car can run faster" but not in this case. Because usually all cars have a run-in period, which means some wear and tear is pending, after which you can rev her to glory. Because of the lubrication properties of synthetic oil, this process is slowed down. The run-in process lasts around 3000 km. So yeah, 1000 mineral oil is good but just make sure that you fill in the right viscosity and friction rating oil etc., and cross check with the manual for the exact rating. But yet I think you should wait for Viru, mainly because our opinions differ:

[another auto forum] recommends that you change your engine oil after the first 1,000 km. As with all new engines, you will find that some metal slivers have found their way into the oil. From this point onward you can stick to the manufacturer recommended intervals.
If you want the src, PM me.

EDIT: Your car engine oil details:

Car: Tata Aria Pride 4x4

OIL QUANTITY : 7.5 LITERS
OIL GRADE : 15W40
OIL SPECIFICATION : API-CH4+MB228.3
OIL CHANGE INTERVAL : 15,000 kms.

Formal disclaimer: Again, I am not the expert and this is my personal opinion, nobody should take offence, and blame me in case anything goes wrong...

I wouldn't say there is any need to change the oil - even if mineral oil in a new car - before 5,000-6,000 kms simply because although there will be some fine particles liberated from the engine as it is run-in, these would usually be trapped by the oil filter or settle down in the sump. This is why you're supposed to briefly rev the cold engine before draining oil, so these particles get drained out.

Very few new cars come with synthetic oil (cost reasons), but newer engines do tend to resist oil degradation better so I would stick to manufacturer intervals.

You can switch straight to synthetic in your first oil change since most engines are pretty well run-in after just 3,500 kms. Also, as our production techniques become more efficient and precise run-in periods are losing their significance.

Who knows, one day we might not have to worry about run-in at all!

i want to know which engine oil will be best for indica vista tdi.car has just completed 5000km after oil change .
What kind of oil did you add? Synthetic or mineral?

5000 is too quick for another oil change IMO. But here you go:

OIL QUANTITY : 5.5 LITERS
OIL GRADE : SAE 20W/40 OR SAE 20W/50
OIL SPECIFICATION : API-CH4+MB228.3 OR HIGHER GRADE
OIL CHANGE INTERVAL : 10,000 KM

i send the car for service with my brother in law so didn't remember the brand of oil but the Mechanic files mineral oil as i remember(didn't remember that he flush the engine before oil change or not) now after 80-100km car start so much noise and friction in first gear like i m driving a bus or a truck and also pickup goes worst after 100 km if i stop the car for 15-10 min after that all is well again [cry]

Sounds like the previous mechanic used very low-grade oil or maybe didn't change it at all, typically even a mineral oil wouldn't show such symptoms until at least 6,000 kms!

I would suggest swapping it out with oil you buy yourself, under supervision. If you can, go for a synthetic oil with good friction rating. My recommendation would be with Castrol Magnatec 10W40, but I know some other members also like Mobil products.

Make sure you change the oil filter!
