Please give some more details about your usage of the vehicle! ie. Driving speed, traffic conditions, average trip distance, etc.

Monthly usage is 1000 to 1500km. Or sometimes more than that. Which includes 70% on highways and 30% in city.
Highway speed i maintain in between 80 to 120kmph.

Fair enough. 5W30 oil should be good for you.

My car has the same engine as yours and I use 5W30 as well. To be specific I use Castrol Magnatec 5W30, which is great oil. It is synthetic and has a very good friction rating.

There is a new Castrol Magnatec "Stop-Start" 5W30 oil on the market, but I would suggest to stay away from it because I have not been able to locate any specific advantages of it except for company claims.

10,000 kms is not a problem. But it can be stretched a bit if you need to.

Just make sure you change the oil filter!

Whats the matter is I just want to see the comparison between 5w-30 Castrol and Mobil1 for using into our kseries engine. If its tech details are almost similar then I wish to have a try with castrol just to know its performances. What is its approx cost per liter? I hope its cheaper than Mobil1.

That would be an interesting comparison because I have never compared oils in the K10B engine except for standard 20W40 mineral and Magnatec 5W30.

I have compared oils in my old X-Trail (As you know) and there I like Castrol a lot more, so I stuck with it. So far great results with Castrol in F8B, K10B and G13B engines.

Its cost is approx. 1300 for 3.5l in Delhi.

^^ Is it same Mobil 1 oil mentioned above using in both Petrol & diesel engines? Is it good for both or better for petrol?

Well, theoretically the SN rating (For Petrol engines) is a much more contemporary standard than CF rating (For Diesel engines). But I have never tried Mobil1 or Magnatec in a Diesel car so can't be sure.

Thanks for the great article!

I'm in a dilemma, my oil change is due. I wanted to buy 5W-30 for my Beat TCDi as the specification says, and the guy there gives me 10W-40 Semi-S and I ask for a lower cold viscosity (Back then I didn't realize I wanted 5W-30). He has mineral oil for that viscosity, so I take the Semi-Synthetic for me. When I now read the manual and came to know about the hot viscosity thing, I called my trusted mech, he said that Semi-Synthetic's 10W-40 is BETTER than Mineral Oil's 5W-40. Is this true?

Thanks!

Well, it really depends on the friction rating and consistency of the change in viscosity with temperature. Unfortunately the latter is hard to determine without testing, but friction rating is always mentioned on the bottle (With the notation C_). Where a higher letter is better ie. CF is better than CD.
