Well, it really depends on the friction rating and consistency of the change in viscosity with temperature. Unfortunately the latter is hard to determine without testing, but friction rating is always mentioned on the bottle (With the notation C_). Where a higher letter is better ie. CF is better than CD.
Thanks for the reply. It's CF, and all else matches, only hitch is that the User's Manual does not say anything about the API. Just in case, ACEA A3/B4 is the rating.

Thanks.

You can check the equivalent API and ACEA ratings online.
ACEA is something the manual states. API is not stated, but I am quite sure that won't be a problem. One last question: Does using higher viscosity oil prove harmful to engines?

Thanks for your replies.

You have to feel it to believe it!

Glad it worked out, which oil exactly did you use?
Thanks. I used Shell HX7, 10W-40, API CN, ACEA A3/B4 advertised Synthetic (Of course it's not fully synthetic[frustration])
EDIT: OT: The can had a scratch code called Mechanic Samriddhi. Can somebody shed some light on this?

Thanks again.

Odometer stands at 41,000kms. Completed 12,000kms within 1year&4months and still there is no sign of engine oil deterioration, except the change in color. Seriously, still it performs like a freshly poured oil.[clap]

So decided to go ahead with the same brand oil. [:)]

Okay, so my car drives awesome, but yesterday when I checked the oil level the oil was pitch black: Just like my old oil. Did I do anything wrong? I took it to my mech and he drained the engine oil. Now he puts the drain plug back, and removes the oil filter. Fresh oil poured in. He shows us, the oil looks yellowish, with some traces of the about 20000 kms. old oil. We discount it, fast forward to today. But when I checked the level, it's black! My father is cribbing about what the heck happened, I think it's okay but better ask the gurus. Help a poor, stupid fellow :stupid:!

Thanks.

Did you change the oil filter? You need to change the oil filter every time you change the oil.

Either way, discoloration is normal, it just means your new oil is working well and cleaning out the residue left by the old oil! There is no need to replace it until there is a significant change in the viscosity and lubrication of the oil.

Okay, sorry I didn't say that he replaced the oil filter. He did, and all is well, except for the colour of the oil.

Thanks, and sorry for the trouble.

Yea, I second to Viru. Discoloration is the sign, that your oil is working the way it need to be. I think it will be good if you use engine flush during the next oil change.

Thanks, but isn't flushing just draining the old, beat-up engine oil?

At least my naive mind thinks so [frustration].

Even i faced same issue.
when my grand diesel is 1500kms engine oil is blackish colour.
when i asked SA to change oil he told it is normal for diesel engines even a fresh one will become black after driving to 100kms.
is it true?
