Re: Velvet Sparky - Review After 10,000 Kms on Odometer

Yes, I agree. Extra 12 lts is like having another mini tank in the car. Also may part answer your issues with FE..may be the pump has been looting you all along.
Sethu Sir change the bunk! anyways a few extra litres of fuel can always go in a car depending if it has any reserve built in to by design or the pipes etc, but 12 litres extra for a small car as Spark sounds ridiculous. ( Also please check if you have leaks or petrol evaporation somewhere, petrol can evaporate pretty quickly unlike diesel )

I suggest you start a fresh diagnosis now(since work has been apparently done by your chevy guys ) - From the next tankful go to a CoCo and fill up and do this for atleast 2 cycles and report back your findings.

Also no need to fill up the brim till the neck , you can do it till the nozzle auto cuts off, if you keep doing this at the same pump and same nozzle, minor discrepancies will average out itself.
I don't know, how it is possible

Most of the time, to fill my Vista's 38Litres Diesel tank will cost around 1,600-1,800Bucks. But filling Petrol for 42.42 liters will cost above 3000bucks[surprise]. It will definitely make pain in our heart[frustration] and that too with less mileage. I can feel the pain of your heart Sethu sir
Let us know the petrol bunk name, so as our TAIans will avoid that bunk from next time onwards
I filled nearly 42.42 liters of petrol today. Upto the neck. [;)] Let me check the same after 100 KMs. The manual says capacity is 38 liters. am sure already minimum of 5 to 8 liters of petrol should have been there. So now totally around 47 to 50 liters of petrol are there in my sparky. How it is possible against 38 liters.

NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOO!!

Confusssiiiooonnnn!!!!

Friends, calm down!

And please allow me to clarify something before all TAIndians stop refuelling from that poor dealer's bunk!

See, the fuel tank capacity mentioned by ANY car manufacturer is only indicative and never millimetre perfect (or litre perfect [;)]). This is,inter alia, because they have to provide sufficient space inside the fuel tank to allow the fuel to expand and also for it to slosh about during the car's movement (acceleration, braking, blah).

My car's manual indicates that the fuel tank capacity is 50 litres but I have personally
filled it upto 62 litres (at my friend's workshop, using a laboratory measure and a jerry can).

And, by the way, anyone who cheats a sweet guy like Sethu is surely going to hell. Right Iron?

12 Litres over and above the manual is a new to me - are they printing their manuals right then ? Which car is this ? Does this have a special reserve tank or something. A few litres is always there, but 12 is a surprise. Never measured with such scientific intensity, may be that should be my next noob project

Hell would be an understatement for such a guy!

Also and on further head scratching agree that manufacturers need to leave air space for "petrol manthan" but then most do a tankful leaving hardly any space for air(hence i insist till the nozzle cut off and not the brim in a way), unless there is a more clever reserve design - it cannot be simple height/level thing as it would be impractical considering the fuel lid position/height. We dont go and fill 50 litres practically at the bunk just because the manufacturer has printed 50 in the manual, its usually a tankful or a number under the manufacturer's specification.

Sir, Even I dont fill fully. But to make sure to calculate the accurate FE I did this. Even if i go to A.S.S [chevy] he is going to do that.

After this i always fill half a tank and mostly drive on LPG only.

Re: Velvet Sparky - Review After 10,000 Kms on Odometer

Off -topic: I am waiting for Visran to post something like: "Breaking news: A recent research on fuelling up your car in various denominations has suggested that those who fill up their car's fuel tank upto only half its capacity are likely to live longer because of reduced risk of cardiac arrest viz-a-viz people who always opt for a tankfull. This is apparently due to the lower monetary outlay on a half tank than on a full tank of fuel. Higher monetary outlay every time one opts for a tankful of fuel is more likely to cause risk of severe cardiac arrest irrespective of an individual's lifestyle"

Sethu and RK, may you live for long!

Re: Velvet Sparky - Review After 10,000 Kms on Odometer

Guys after filling 42 liters of petrol I drove for 260 KMs. Out of that 120 KMs on Highway [Chennai - Surutappalli - Chenna] and 60 kms onward to and return from mayagaal and rest in city traffic. 100% AC and 180 KMs with full capacity [one trip with 4 and another with 5 passengers including driver]

After that I filled again to the neck and sparky was very thursty I belive and drank nearly 20 liters which makes FE to 13/l. Very much disappointed. If allowed she would have drank more by shaking for couple of times [already did couple of times for 20 Liters] and I stopped at 20. If it would have been 25 then FE would be 10.

I thought of going for a trip to Ratnagiri tommorow and wanna try with LPG and find the FE on it. But un fortunately the trip was cancelled.

I had sent a mail to General Motors yesterday, but have n't received any reply. I do not want to go to A.S.S again.

One thing tell me friends, In Chennai TVS is also another Chevy A.S.S, Can i go and try with them? will they accept my vehicle for servicing? should I have to pay anything?

Sethu, something is wrong. Spark should give atleast 16km/lt on highway (from experience). Did you get the pollution done?

@Sethu,

No problem, you can go to any authorized service of Chevy and I don't think they will charge you for this problem. Wish this gets fixed very soon[:)]

Re: Velvet Sparky - Review After 10,000 Kms on Odometer

@chayan I took Emission test yesterday and pls find attached the report.

Sparky - Emission Test - Mar 2013 - Page 1.jpg

Sparky - Emission Test - Mar 2013 - Page 2.jpg

Actually while checking Co (% by vol) shows Zero only. The guy who tested before me was maruti 800 and for him it has shown some figure without anything. [While waiting I peeked inside the work station hehe]

Then the emission test guy told me to accelarate a little bit.

When I checked with him, now a day all Baharat 4 Stage vehicles shows less Co generally. But particularly most of the Chevy petrol engine products shows almost zero and if he prints the report as it is, the customer themselves are telling him that the machine is not working. So he asked me to accelarate.

@Chayan, what this tells?
