Maruti sales top 100,000 a month for first time
Maruti Suzuki on Tuesday reported a 27.9 percent jump in sales for May at 102,175 units compared to 79,872 vehicles
it sold in the year-ago period.
This is the first time the car maker has ever sold over 100,000 units in a month, its previous highest monthly sale figure being 96,650 units in February.
Sales in the compact car (A2) segment comprising Alto, Wagon-R, Zen, Swift, Ritz and A-Star grew 16.6 percent at 62,679 units over May 2009.
Sales of models in its mid-sized (A3) segment comprising SX4 and D'Zire rose 60.5 percent to 10,883 cars while it sold 12,953 vehicles of its C segment which comprises of Omni, Versa, and the Eeco which was launched in January this year.
Hyundai car sales up 15.5%
Hyundai Motor India Ltd, the country's second largest car manufacturer continued good sales with the domestic sales growing by 15.5% over the same month last year.
HMIL's total sales for May, 2010 stood at 46,808 units as against 43,624 units in May, 2009 registering 7.3% cumulative growth. The domestic sales accounted for 27,151 units as against 23,503 units in May, 2009 while the exports declined by 2.3% from 20,121 units in May, 2009 to 19,657 units in May, 2010.
The segment-wise cumulative sales for the month of May, 2010 are as follows: A2 segment (Santro, i10, Getz & i20) 42,460 units; A3 Segment (Accent & Verna) 4,310 units; A4 Segment (Elantra) 1 unit; A5 segment (Sonata Transform) 37 units; and SUV segment (Tucson) 0 unit.
