Maruti, Hyundai post highest-ever monthly sales in February
India's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India on Tuesday reported its highest-ever monthly sales of 96,650 units for February, a jump of 22.05 per cent over the same month last year. Sales of Hyundai Motor India Ltd, the country’s second largest car manufacturer touched a new high with record sales of 31,001 units in the domestic market registering 46.1% growth over the same month last year.

However, sales of Maruti's once bread-and-butter model M800 fell by 22.01 per cent at 3,178 units compared to 4,075 units in February 2009, the statement said. The A2 segment (comprising Alto, WagonR, Estilo, Swift, A-Star and Ritz) witnessed 19.97 per cent growth at 60,380 units compared to 50,331 units in the same month a year ago.

A3 segment sales (consisting of SX4 and DZiRE) increased by 27.49 per cent to 10,254 units compared to 8,043 units in the corresponding period a year ago, the company said.

The segment-wise cumulative sales of Hyundai for the month of February, 2010 are as follows: A2 Segment (Santro, i10, Getz & i20) 50,515 units; A3 Segment (Accent & Verna) 4,051 units; A5 Segment (Sonata Transform) 50 units; and SUV Segment (Tucson) 1 unit.


Bajaj motorcycle sales jump 78 pc in Feb
Bajaj Auto today reported 78.03 per cent jump in motorcycle sales at 2,34,623 units in February.

The company had sold 1,31,785 units in February last year, Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL) said in a statement.

Carmaker General Motors India saw its February sales climb over two-fold to 11,111, the highest monthly sales since its inception in the country.

GM India attributed its robust growth to good demand for its two small cars -- Beat and Spark. The company sold 3,412 units of the hatchback Spark, 726 units of the sedan Cruze and 4,431 units of the latest compact car Beat in the reporting month, it added.

It also sold 411 units of premium hatchback Aveo U-Va, 420 units of the entry-level sedan Aveo, 98 units of the mid-sized sedan Optra, 1,592 units of the multi-utility vehicle Tavera and 21 units of the SUV Captiva.

Toyota India registers over 100 pc growth in Feb 2010 sales
TKM recored 101 per cent growth in sales with 5993 units sold in February 2010 -- sales of the Innova, Corolla and Fortuner at 4142, 863 and 972 units respectively -- as compared to 2976 units in the same month last year

M&M domestic sales up 35.7 per cent in February
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd today reported an increase of 35.70 per cent in domestic sales for February at 26,580 units.

The company had sold 19,594 units in the domestic market during the same month last year, Mahindra & Mahindra said in a statement.

Total utility vehicle sales, including Scorpio, Xylo, Bolero and Pick-Ups, stood at 18,280 units as against sales of 14,720 units in February 2009, 24.18 per cent up, it added.

Sales of sedan Logan from Mahindra Renault Pvt Ltd, however, went down by 46.73 per cent to 537 units during the month as against 1,008 units in the same month a year ago.

The company said sales of three-wheelers and Gio and Maxximo during February jumped over two-fold at 6,907 units, as against 3,415 units during the same month last year.

Light commercial vehicle sales from Mahindra Navistar Automotives Ltd during the month were at 856 units as against 451 units in the same month a year ago, a jump of 89.80 per cent.

Ford India sales up 23 pc in Feb
Ford India reported 22.67 per cent rise in its February sales at 3,223 units, as against 2,636 units in the same month of last year.

The company will also launch its small car Figo on March 9.

Yamaha Motor sales up 48 per cent in February

Two-wheeler maker India Yamaha Motor today reported 48.02 per cent increase in total sales in February at 25,766 units.
The company had sold 17,407 units in the same month last year, India Yamaha Motor said in a statement.

India Yamaha Motor Chief Executive Officer and MD Yukimine Tsuji said.

Our domestic sales continue to be strong for our premium segment products like YZF-R15, Fazer, FZ-S and FZ-16. These models have also received overwhelming response in overseas markets like Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Columbia resulting in increased export sales. The company is expecting to sell 3.1 lakh units in the domestic market and is aiming to more than double its exports to 1.5 lakh units this year.

I think the above Indigo figures include the old Indigo, CS as well as marina. so i really don't think manza has "shaken the base" of dezire yet.

What is impressive in the list is Santro. The old warhorse is still going strong!!
And the Omni is no great shakes either for a vehicle that is now 25 years old in India!!

Feb car sales rise 33% y-o-y: Industry

Car sales in India rose an annual 33 percent in February, as customers purchased vehicles ahead of the rise in taxes in the federal
budget, an industry body said on Monday.

Firms sold 153,845 cars in the month, compared with 115,505 units a year ago, data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) showed.

Sales of trucks and buses, a barometer of economic activity, rose 87 percent to 58,024 units in the month, SIAM said.
