I for one, believe that an underpowered engine just means that you work the gear box a little bit harder!!
And FIAT has managed to come out with the best looking models on Indian roads today!!

Thats a good improvement from Fiat!! They have the best designers and its competitively priced! Now if they can just upgrade the Linea and Punto and remove some of the defects if present any in the cars!!

Currently City outsells Linea 1:4 even though linea diesel (E+) costs as much or may be a little less than city(S MT) which means many people still prefer to go for a petrol engine despite the higher price of petrol and lesser mileage.
One reason maybe the performance.
Hence i believe launchin T-Jet (E+) at about the same price as City (S MT) would get this 1:4 ratio to 1:3 or even 1:2.5!

Same is with punto. I20 outsells punto 1:3.5! Launchin Punto VGT can reduce this gap to around 1:2.5!

I think the numbers and the ratio are currently a reflection of the marketing network and established product recall for Honda and Hyundai, rather than a reflection of a comparison of the cars as such.

The point i am trying to put forward is that even though Linea should have sold more because of FIAT's image it has lost to City so far by quite a big margin. Infact even fiesta and verna and sx4 sell almost as much as linea.
By getting T-Jet @ 9L Linea car sure recreate the buzz it the segment like it did when it was launched!

:agree: with Ichimaru, One interesting thing in our market is that every one underestimates the city by calling it overpriced, lack features etc but still most of them buy it, why? Honda image!

I don't think the City is overpriced, the Jazz maybe.
No one said it was overpriced till the SX4 came with better features at a lower price, but Honda reacted to that pretty fast.
And the Honda image is far superior in this segment than Maruti.
Plus the amazing mileage!!
But you got to admit that the spares are on the costlier side.

I think the underpowered thingy pulled the Linea down when compared to other cars in this segment! City though maybe a touch over priced people still prefer it for its responsive engine and amazing FE even after years of running of the car!!

Jazz way overpriced!
City definitely overpriced specially when compared to Linea.
Honda image superior to most brands in India but i think Honda learnt a much needed lesson after launching Jazz with a ridiculous price tag that image alone can not sell a car in India.
Just my opinion though.

Land Rover overtakes BMW in India SUV race

Economictimes
Land Rover has overtaken BMW as the country’s No.2 upscale SUV player in sales, helped by a passel of factors spanning a bigger bundle of models to competitive pricing to a more effective positioning in the market.

The luxury marque that Tata Motors acquired in 2008 and launched in India early last year sold 35 units compared to BMW’s 16 units in January, according to latest figures. Germany’s Audi has raced ahead of the pack with 114 units while Mercedes sold 6 units.

Market watchers say Land Rover was aided by many factors, but none more important than its cheaper pricing compared to BMW products. Land Rover models start from Rs 35 lakh and go up to Rs 1.11 crore while BMW’s entry price is a steeper Rs 55 lakh. The UK brand also sell its entire range, including the Freelander 2, Discovery 4 Sports Tourer, the Range Rover Sport and the Range Rover, in India.

In contrast, BMW sells only the X3, X5 and X6 in India. Analysts say Land Rover offers wider options and variants in its premium SUV range compared to BMW’s limited number of models. The Tata company was also able to project itself as rugged SUV model, fit for rough terrains, while BMW pitched for a lifestyle alignment in the market.

Seems like the TATA effect here! Audi is leading the race by a huge margin! Bmw now has to rethink its pricing to stay in the competition! Mercedes will have to launch something new to stay alive! Else the Q5 and Q7 are going to rule the market!
