Yes , agreed , and they save not only on R & D but also on money to be spent on advertisement and image building. For eg.Wagonr k series .They replaced 1.1 lit 4 cylinder engine with the underpowered 1 lit 3 cylinder engine of astar and they changed the design too, but made no change in the name as name wagonr was already established in the market and they didn't wanted to loose the custemers who blindly believe in the names and image.
One more example is New DZire.

Is it possible for fiat to take such establishment related tactics taking clue fromMSIL.?
FIAT can do much more, but the current speed of snail at which they are working, all these seems to be distant future. I think they are happy with the revenue earned from selling engines only. [frustration]

@ dharmesh , my question was that can' MSIL type tactics ' help fiat in re-establishment?
But for that purpose, one need to have brand image and good name. FIAT is sorely missing both. So first they need to create image and have some successful model and then only they play the name game.

If we go by that than we can assume that first of all Fiat will stop selling Punto and Linea when the sales figures will reach to zero. Than they will have a break for a while and will come back with couple of new unknown models and will start doing business. Then again they will repeat the same after 5-6 years. They never concentrated on their existing models and never continued after sales support for longer period and left their loyal customers in helpless situation.
I do not think FIAT will stop selling their models Punto & Linea, I would say these 2 models have picked up a good base in South India at least & have been providing good revenue to the company apart from just sales of their Engines. I am not sure about sales in Bangalore, Chennai, kochi & so on however staying in Hyd I can say there has been significant increase in the number of Puntos specially & to an extent lineas on the road here. Now the only thing FIAT needs to do is setup its own ASS & get the price of spares down a bit & launch some new models that appeals to the public.

Jayadev, thanks for sharing those links. I am glad that FIAT has renovated its webpage. I strongly wish FIAT sells more of these beauties because they really deserve to do good numbers. As of today, if i am given a choice to buy a diesel hatch, then it is definitely going to be the Fiat Punto 90HP.
But, when it comes to general public (non-autoheads), i feel that they are kind of scared of putting their money on Fiat products. The reason being, they are not sure if the company would continue its journey in India. Hence my suggestion to the company would be to increase their line-up by adding a few more cars. Additionally they should work towards the satisfaction of the existing customers to build up confidence in their minds.

As far as current customers are concerned, form long time now I have not heard about any dis satisfaction apart from parts availability. No issues with car. My Punto is not having a single rattle from last 11000 KM. [clap]

Yes, I am able to see lot of Puntos on Hyderabad roads these days and NO Linea . Who ever the owner of Punto I met so far they are really happy with the vehicle as with service too. So this part is going well for them, but Linea sales seems to be not so well. Apart from these two, Fiat need to come up with some new models quickly other wise people will get bored of these models and after some time people just think Fiat means Punto[clap]

I think FIAT is trying hard to establish themselves in india. They only need to make people trust them, and it won't happen in a day or two. It is definitely gonna take some time.

Yesterday my friend told me that some 3 grand has been refunded by the fiat dealer for replacing the disc-pad, as it was a wear and tear item so he was made to pay by the dealership. But later when he did some mails to FIAT officials he got the money.

Another case is of Jasdeep who actually got his clutch plate replaced in extended warranty, which is also a wear and tear item.

I don't think that any other brand is trying this much hard to improve its image.

No car company can excel in a competitive market like India unless they introduce product refreshes, engine upgrades and new products. With only 2 products in their portfolio we can't expect Fiat to do better. Their products are good but there exist some misconception about the brand due to its history in India. They have taken this market lightly. We know what happened to Mitsubishi. But with Jeep and other models coming hope the perception changes..

Last month when I was in KHT motors, Bangalore for my 2nd service of punto and a free check up camp arranged by fiat, they showed the new interior coming for punto. That was really awesome with AUX and Pendrive options and too cool to look at first sight. The service guys told that Fiat is working on Punto evo, Bravo, Panda, one jeep and a SUV to launch in coming 2 years (by 2015). they also told that they had a test drive of panda too.

A new interior for Punto?!?! I am really looking forward to a new interior I am not too happy with the current one when I saw it in the showroom. Any idea when the new interiors will be introduced in Punto?
