Great. As a fellow TAIan, it is our duty not to mislead you for something. So, you will surely see many guys during meetups. If you meet guys like Indian, you are rest assured that you will get the right product [glasses].

Nice gesture appus, thanks! I think there are lot of knowledged people here and treasure is being built with the help of people like you and many others.
I think if we spend just little bit of extra time and contribute in our area of expertise, we will do a knowledge base for sure. I think its a win-win situation. That's the whole idea behind the great places like this (TAI). We are a community. I am happy to be part of this great community. [clap]

Back to to topic...
I think GPS navigation one of the great 'Must have' for any smart phone. There are so many ways you can use it. Just imagine you are on a unknown city and want to walk across, and quickly want to find out is there a KFC around? Note that most navigation software now support 'Walking Mode'(Sygic/GMaps/Nokia).

But one need to really understand about it before you invest your money. That's why I and others have said that buy something which you carry with you rather than the dedicated car mounted navigation. This gives you flexibility. And more importantly you don't know when exactly you need to use navigation software. If you are in a remote hill station without data connection, quickly you can make a search on the navigation software for a POI(Place of interest)

If you are serious about GPS navigation, its better to invest on a quality device. As its discussed here before make sure to have...
* 'A-GPS' support and maps storage(offline mapping).
* Make sure to have larger screen, cuz while driving you will be glancing over the display.
* Better sound as you need to hear things.
* Have better processor and memory because GPS navigation is processor intensive program as it has to do too many things in real time. Also all other applications are also running in the background such as phone or you email sync etc.
* Car charger, as for long drives it is a MUST.
* Device holder, to hold your device firmly. And position the device such a way that device is always exposed to sky at the same time you can also see it without any movement from your driving position.
* Teach your wife, kids or partner(who will accompany in you car mostly) about the usage. Why? lot of times I have seen that while on a long drive, on the fly I want to change or deviate from our original plan, such as visiting a temple, rest rooms or park to relax near by. Finding this new location someone else has to do it because you don't want to be disturbed and more importantly you don't know when exactly to start searching? So your co-passenger can keep searching and pin point.(GPS navigators have a feature where you can search based on your current position while actually on a active navigation)

OT: Recently I did a trip from Mangalore->Murudeshwar->Badami->Eihole->Bijapur->Hyderabad->Bangalore->Mangalore on a hired Innova. The driver was amazed that my device was able to guide whole trip even the site seeing. I think these taxi drivers should have these technology available to them. Seen city taxis at Bangalore using them though.

+1 Indian.

Covered everything.

Car charger.
Better processor/Memory
Better sound.
Teaching family member about use.
A GPS
and most importantly, the Screen Size.

If you have a 3" screen and running GPS, you will find no problem at all. When you use a 4" screen, then you will find the difference. If you have 4.3"/4.7" or 5", you will say "WOW". Till then, you will think like 'mine is the best'. So, I am not telling to go for a 7" or 10" screen for navigation [glasses].

All these observations from personal experience. You know experience makes a man perfect. Even though no where near perfect, getting better and better with experience [;)]

I called to MMI executive 2 days back , he told me LX140 is newly launched and they have the latest maps and is not yet available in stores, can be purchased only online. I have tried sygic+MMI on my Nokia E72 and its pretty good, since it was having an older version of maps, some new roads were not added in it when i traveled through Pazhani,Dindugal ( Tamil Nadu).

Runs on Windows® CE 6.0 :|
Many GPS devices comes with Windows CE 5.0 or 6.0 particularly if they want to get a reverse camera function to it. I think android got some issue with reverse camera function when connected thru USB. Driver problems.

BTW,
Biggest drawback of Google Maps Navigation is , you cant set via point in mobile app [anger]. You can do it on desktop but not on mobile. Tried few method of saving map and then calling it on android. It just loads and would not navigate.

My Navigation / Audio / Bluetooth handsfree setup.

By default, it plays the music with Navigation software on. It lowers volume when notification comes from Navigation software/sms etc. It stops playing music when you receive a call. It resumes audio/navigation once the call ended.

Did many cut in between. View with speaker on to see 'how it works'.

Paired phone with Bluetooth Headset MW600 (Sony Ericsson).
Connected the bluetooth to Aux port thru a stereo Aux cable.
Connected the phone to USB cable. Connected the USB cable to Belkin USB charger (which is connected to cigar lighter port)
You can attend call either by swiping in phone or pressing the call button in Bluetooth

Note: I know many are using this kind of setup in their phone(not new to most of them). This is for those who do not have the setup at the moment.

im using the Nokia Maps in my e71. Im using it for the past 2 years, so far it is good. I updated the maps recently. In Cities it is great but when you go to the interior place in villages it wud be a problem.

BTB, google purchased Waze, so can expect some offline solutions very soon.

Its good and not the best right. Soon, we may get the best . Its not always the map, it is the accuracy matters. New navigation can get accuracy upto 2mtr to 5mtr compared to current 20 to 50mtr accuracy.

I have been using MMI GPS device for the past 5 years, and I found it really precise. Even when I made my last trip to Manali, it was guiding me without any interruption. I recently changed the device from ROADPILOT to Lx140S. I use a separate Amp. fixed in the boot with separate speakers and connected the device audio out to it.
So, no interference with the head unit, when I play Dvd or Bluetooth

Hi Friends,

Please suggest me which would be better GPS device among nüvi® 2568LM (India) and nüvi® 52LM (India).

I am thinking for going to nuvi52LM and separate handsfree steering mounted bluetooth.

Also I have Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, will it serve the purpose like I am traveling from Bangalore - Coorg.

200% . As per my knowledge, it got GPS in both models (with and without sim). Just install an offline map like Sygic/mapmyindia . That is it . You will not look for any other dedicated device !

Need further help? PM me (paid app)

+1 to appus,
ERTIGA_ZMR, if you check couple of pages back it says samething. Why to invest on a new device when your Galaxy Tab can do it? multiple devices always result in multiple maintenance. So go by appus recommendation.

Finally - Yes Finally MapMyIndia released Version 8 maps which solved one of my two year old problem.

The Kadiranahalli Underpass was not updated in their map for almost 2 year since completion. New maps (installed just now) (ver 2012-11) got it right.

I had originally bought MapMyIndia (came along with my phone). But, they did not even give a single update which made me to search for other alternates. Sygic software looks much promising than MMI app. Sygic software & MMI maps makes the best combination. (I think they have discontinued MMI application and giving Sygic+MapMyindia these days). Do not know about physical CDs which are sold at car accessories shops.

[thumbsup] from my side for the latest map !

Those who are using MMI maps version 6 or 7, Try updating to 8. Worth it
