@Raj:First of all I don't feel like workers also need the A/C.
C'mon yaar this car is for carrying workers.I would say that you are like God who is going to use cars.Else we people ask local workers to come by their own and the ones which are quite far are paid daily bus rent by the supervisor and that also a minimal amount. There is no shortage of workers only, daily wage needs to be reasonable.

I am also a contractor and my advise will be simple and straight:
Get Bolero XL with DI engine. The reliability and durability of this engine is no match.Neither m2DICr nor the Dicor can take as much beating as the bare bone DI of Bolero can take. When the driver will drive then no need of any power steering, and if you want then also I think DI has its option too.
Also if you provide facilities like A/C etc then it will spoil the workers and they will spoil the car. These people are in future going to ask you to pay even more if they don't get sir conditioned car for travel.
Also no need to spend money in SLE because the SLE can never seat as many people as the XL can.The captain seats in front wills eat just one persona and same is with the jump seats at the back, while in DI you get a row in front and longer jump seats at back.

These works of contracts etc need extensive cost cutting and you need to do it if you want to save a good amount at the end.
Those were my views as a slightly experienced contractor..now its upon you which way to go.My choice is simple Bolero DI..NONE ELSE.

First of all, workers and labours are human too. By giving them small and simple luxuries, they feel you care for them, which in turn benefits you too... That is what I feel.

Secondly, by providing them transport, you increase your own work time thereby increasing productivity. From an employer's point of view, it's a small price to pay for the added benefits.

Lastly, this vehicle would also be used to carry site and safety engineers if the need arises. It is not fair to give them a vehicle without A/C.

I am also a contractor and my advise will be simple and straight:

I agree what you said about the DI engine, but sadly it is available only in BS3. We want a BS4 vehicle.

Also if you provide facilities like A/C etc then it will spoil the workers and they will spoil the car. These people are in future going to ask you to pay even more if they don't get sir conditioned car for travel.
My thinking is -

if we get a UV with A/C, the windows will always be closed which will ensure that the interiors are always clean and maintained. Our site is inside a power plant which makes it very very dusty.

Also no need to spend money in SLE because the SLE can never seat as many people as the XL can.The captain seats in front wills eat just one persona and same is with the jump seats at the back, while in DI you get a row in front and longer jump seats at back.
As i said above, my first choice is the DI engine but it is not BS4 complaint.

These works of contracts etc need extensive cost cutting and you need to do it if you want to save a good amount at the end.

I understood what you meant. That is the reason I am confused whether to spend that extra 50k on the Sumo.

The 50k is just the beginning of the story. I somehow feel running costs and upkeep costs will be more in the Sumo than the Bolero.

^^Okay,so you can't go for DI due to BS 3/4 etc etc.
Then go for Tata Sumo gold LX or EX.Both of them have A/C as per your need.

Sumo LX and EX both costs lower than Bolero SLE.
Here you need a car for carrying people and hence space is crucial. In the first and second row, both can accommodate nearly same number of people but the third row(jump seats) of Sumo which are bigger than that of Bolero will help a lot here.

Sumo LX is cheaper than Bolero but does not have power steering.

Sumo EX has both power steering and A/C but costs more than Bolero SLE.

I called both the dealers today. None of them have any discounts, just the usual floor mats and mud flaps. I was hoping the Gold has some discounts as it will nullify the advantage the Bolero has!

THE FINAL TRUTH= You will buy Bolero.(Xover knows it[;)])

But just to keep the spirits of this thread alive why don't you test drive both and give us a nice comparo. After all just like S Class is "leader" of sedan loving community here, similarly you are the arch defender of UV honour. So it will only be fitting if you can drive both these and share your thoughts about both these car like only you can.

Hope I haven't asked too much.[:)]

Thanks Raja. This means Sumo Gold version is getting ready also for export to the countries with LHD .In the short wheelbase category of SUV Sumo will surely compete with other brands in all aspects.
