Flipboard, Vine and Path make their way onto Windows Phone 8, Hipstamatic an exclusive for the Lumia 1020

The Noka Lumia 1020 is clearly the most exciting launch today as it shakes the very grounds of smartphone photography with its 41-megapixel camera, but software while not as flashy as a smartphone launch is just as big a part of the success of a device as its hardware.

That’s where Nokia’s biggest announcement after the Lumia 1020 came - the Windows Phone Marketplace now has 165 000 applications. Not just the number is growing, though, some extremely nice apps we know from other platforms like Flipboard, Vine and Path will be launching for Windows Phone 8 in the very near future.

For those that have somehow missed those apps, Flipboard is a unique magazine-styled news reader, Vine is Twitter’s addictive 6-second video sharing service and Path is a more personalized social network for only your closest connections.

We were really hoping that Nokia would announce Instagram for Windows Phone 8 today. That would have made many people happy and would have added that extra flare to the already amazing 41-megapixel camera on the Lumia 1020. While that did not happen, Nokia’s Pro Camera offers a ton of neat options and there are many other ways to get your photos outfitted in vintage colors. To make up for that, Nokia unveiled that Hipstamatic Ogg Pro is coming exclusively to its Lumia 1020. Great news!

Microsoft posts Windows Phone 8 GDR2 update info | WMPoweruser

On the Windows Phone 8 Update History page Microsoft has posted a list of features users can expect in Windows Phone 8.0.10327.77 or 8.0.10328.78, better known as the GDR2 update.

The list does not include any surprises, except possible that we can expect improvements in both Skype, Internet Explorer and Xbox Music which we have not noticed so far on the Nokia Lumia 925.

See the updates detailed after the break.

Update 8.0.10327.77 or 8.0.10328.78*
Xbox Music. It’s now easier to select, download, and pin music. Plus, music fans will see more accurate metadata (such as song and album information) and many other performance improvements.
FM radio. Listen to FM radio right from the Music+Videos hub. (Not available for all phones.)
Data Sense. Stay on top of your phone’s data usage with Data Sense. You can set a limit based on your data plan, or just keep track of which apps use the most data. (Not all mobile operators offer Data Sense.)
Skype. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) apps like Lync and Skype now feature improved stability and performance.
Internet Explorer. Your web browsing experience is now better than ever with improved HTML 5 compatibility.
Camera. Set your favorite Lens so it opens automatically when you press the camera button. (Not available for all phones.)
Other improvements. Includes many other improvements to Windows Phone.
*Your update version number depends on your specific phone model and mobile operator.

it takes care of not needing to charge the phone when used for longer durations.
@gurrala
maybe i need to check it out with other friends if it works.[confused]
Common man this is nit picking now seriously . I keep the phone on charging in my bedroom and seat on a sofa with ipad or macbook in the living room and surf .

In a coffee shop I can very well charge the phone via USB and at the same time surf the net with wifi hotspot on .

no it is not nitpicking.

i use my Nokia phone as a 3G modem and that feature is handy for me.
also for my desktop to enable wi fi , i would then have to buy a wi - fi dongle which is again a hassle , since it eats up a free USB or PCI port apart from a buying another hardware.

as it is gurrala sir has mentioned it works now , so i need to check if it works.

Brother why do you need wires ? When you can keep the phone in the pocket and access Internet ? And if battery is low you can charge the phone via your laptop and yet surf the net . Is this not easier then USB teetering ?
In my recent trip to chennai I charged my phone via the USB port of surface rt and at the same time surfed the net .
What differnt are you are accomplishing ?
