Windows Phone Store hosts 170,000 apps
From January 2012 through June 2012, the Windows Phone Store had doubled the number of apps available from 50,000 to 100,000. But 11 months later, it appeared that momentum had slowed to a crawl. By May 2013, 11 months later, the tally was only at 145,000 apps. But this slowdown in momentum has apparently ended. Microsoft included the latest app count for the Windows Phone Store in a new infographic called Microsoft by Numbers, and the latest data shows 170,000 apps in the store for a pick up of 25,000 over the last two months. Of course, quantity is important, but so is quality and that means making sure that the platform supports the most popular apps.

Instagram recently cracked down on third party Windows Phone apps like Instance, banning it from uploading to the official site. This could be all solved with an official Windows Phone version of Instagram which has yet to be launched. Vine is another app missing from the Windows Phone Store. If Windows Phone is going to ever challenge Android or iOS, it needs to make sure that the software everyone wants is available.

On the other hand, it could take a run-up to 200,000 apps and beyond to convince developers that it is financially worthwhile for them to develop a Windows Phone version of their apps. With momentum returning to the platform, perhaps it won't be terribly long before the Windows Phone Store hosts Instagram, Vine, and some of the other high profile apps it is missing.

Passport and Visa (CPV) division of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India has released their mPassport Seva app for Windows Phone devices.

This app will offer a wide variety of services to smartphone users such as Passport application status tracking, locating the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) and general information on various steps involved in obtaining a Passport.

Even though you won’t be able to able to apply for a new passport and other advanced functions, it will come handy to check the status when you are waiting for your passport approval process.

I have finally decided to buy nokia lumia 720,please let me know if there are any good android phone in this budget? I saw the Xperia L, but i doubt about its music quality(music is the topmost priority for me).

Forbes reports that surveys from sources as diverse as Indian retailers and AT&T managers confirmed that the Nokia Lumia 520 has been a surprise hit which is competing effective against Samsung and Chinese retailer’s low-end smartphones.

They report that interviews with three Indian retail chains indicate that the Lumia 520 is a substantial hit in August, competing effectively against the Samsung S Duos, while discussions with both T-Mobile and AT&T managers in New York, Chicago and Miami indicate that the $130 Lumia 521 for T-Mobile and the $100 Lumia 520 GoPhone for AT&T are now substantial hits in the contract-free category.

The handset offers a better screen and camera than other handsets in the same sub $160 price range, which may be driving sales, although they warn that Samsung will likely counter with similar handsets by Q4 2013.

The article notes that the Nokia Lumia 520 may be cannibalizing sales of Nokia’s high-end handsets, but that Nokia at present is aggressively pursuing volume over margins, as it seeks to build carrier relations while killing smaller rivals such as Blackberry and HTC, and guarding against the coming low-end iPhone, which at $400 will not be particularly low-end at all.

If this is indeed Nokia’s strategy they have indeed been executing it masterfully, and we hope the company is receiving enough support from Microsoft to ensure they remain viable while growing into the 10-20 million per quarter Lumia sales.

AFAIK nokia would just release the 625 which i think won't come in my budget, whereas i found a good deal for lumia 720 at 15k, sounds good?

Right now croma shops will be closed you can go tomorrow 15k is a good deal for 720 . But go in the store play with it and the androids in the same price range .

Although you might get those celkon , lava , spice phones my request will be to stay away from them and only limit your choice to Sony , samsung , lg , htc and nokia .

Know what? I'm tired of waiting for mobiles especially, but what to do? no chance i must wait for my next salary.

LOL! i meant i'll visit soon, the main confusion is there are no good mobiles in this price range either settle for Lumia 520 or go for good android mobiles in 18-20k range which i am not ready to.

My only choice is Nokia, Sony or HTC, not even samsung.

Had a demo of Lumia 925 two days ago.UI is same as all Windows phones.But,slimmer than 920.Not as slim as iPhone 5.
