Re: Hello TAI Members

Hello Friends :
My self Bharathkumar Iyer from Mumbai.
I Own a Honda City Ivtec Grey.

After upgrading the tyres, I went for upgrading the Break Pads too... bought a after market Honda Taiwan make, honestly, could not find the brands which in the Forums had mentioned like Nissin, Delphi etc. The Honda service center Arya Honda, Kalina (Near to My office) was charging me Rs. 6500/- for this service incl. of Labour. After reading the Forum/s, went straight to Prakash Auto store, Milan Subway though its about 60-65Kms from my residence got the Roters Trimmed and Break pads installed, initially all was well but, recently a noise come from the breakes whenever its applied. Just check on the issue I took the Car to the Honda Service Center - Arya Honda, Kalina (Near to My office), they checked the entire assembly and said that this is not the original Brake pad and thus, the noise will remain, it will be more as the pads get older, nevertheless, thee pads will last for another 15K kms. I also noted that, there is also a lot of Black dust on the Rims and Wheel covers, I think this is from Break pads.

Can anyone share their wisdom on this please ?

With Great Power comes Great Responsibility !!
I had faced the same issue on my Honda City iVtec 2011 model. I had replaced the brake pads @ ~30000 KM. Pads were not worn out but I was not satisfied with brake performance. At that time when I inquired Honda service center and they quoted ~4K for pads + labor. So I decided to go for after market. After browsing on internet I came across TVS Girling brake pads. I bought it from local vendor for ~1200 and got it fitted from local mechanic. Initially I was satisfied with the performance because it was better than the Honda OEM one. Braking distance reduced with that new pads. But after ~7000 KM it started making noise while applying the brake. I had visited couple of mechanics but problem didn't resolve. Then I visited local Bosch service center. They told me that this pads are not compatible with the honda city. He explained me that the material used in the pads are tough and may damage the rotor. At that time they had rounded the edges of the brake pads and noise went away for couple of thousand killometers but it came back after that. So finally I had replaced it with original Honda nissin brake pads on the next service. I had to spent ~4300 for brake pads. I am still not satisfied with the braking performance. [frustration] But there is no noise. I didn't come across any forum on internet where they have discussed good alternative for original brake pads.

@ bhavesh -Tvs girling really is a good brand. I used it in my santro and the braking really improved a lot.

Have you ever tried disc skimmimg ? Sometimes the problems is the disc and the outer surface needs to be skimmed or else even the new pads will not work properly.

Hi allhyundaicars,

I am not saying that TVS girling is not good. As I mentioned in my earlier post that I was pretty much satisfied with the braking performance of TVS girling pads. Disk skimming was done at the time of changing the brake pads. Noise was not there initially but it started after ~7000 KM. Also noise went away after rounding off the edges of brake pads. The problem was that material used in the pads are not compatible with honda cars (don't know technical details). That's what I understood from Bosch's service engineer. Still I am acknowledging that performance of TVS girling pads were better than Honda OEM in terms of braking distance. The life of TVS girling pad is ~15K (may varies depend on driving style) but honda's OEM pads easily go at least 40K (again driving style matters). I had to replace the TVS girling pads because of that noise. It was so irritating and doesn't sound good on car like Honda City. [;)]

I am planning to have DRL + HID Projector headlamps as stock headlight performance is not good.

Has anyone else other than Gandhi did this setup? Kindly share performance and cost of it.

Thanks.

One update...today I gave my car for its 4th service and I told the guys to check the grinding noise coming from engine bay.And finally they agreed that alternator or bearing is faulty and will replace that part.I told this thing on the second service but they were not listening to me but now they are agreed that its coming.I will update you guys once they will replace it and will tell you the after effect of that.
Also they were saying about rattling in dashboard that they contacted honda regarding this issue but nobody is replying with the permanent solution to this so as per the service guy honda itself could not rectify it and that means that New Honda City is not designed properly by the engineers.

The above 2 issues makes me feel sorry for you buddy. I own a 2011 CITY IVtec and till date no issues of any type reported. As for rattling, the car even after being driven on some really bad roads did not produce even a faint sound till now. I vouch for the 2009-2011 model CITY's cabin excellence and technical excellence. Though the bad thing was ground clearance.

Sorry will check bro !! And Yes you spoke my words[:)] don't you think it'll involve just an interface ? I was thinking something like our auto up driver window function for all windows first and then add an interface to the remote central locking system . Makes sense?
