Nokia Lumia Series Smartphones Discussions and Experiences

Hi.

I bought my L620 on 16.3.13. I was quite happy with it as this was my first smart phone.

After about a month suddenly I got a few vertical lines on the left side of the screen. As I was abroad during that period I had no option to take it to an Nokia store. The phone was working fine.

After coming back to India I was planning to take it to the store. But delayed it as I was travelling. Then one day I find a crack on the touch screen and the phone stopped functioning correctly. I was sure that I did not drop the phone at any time. But I was carrying the phone on my trouser/jean,s pocket regularly like all other mobile phone. I suppose due to wrong pressure the touch pad glass cracked.

The repair cost quoted by Nokia care was about Rs. 8000.00. I stopped using the phone and gone back to my faithful N73.
All owners may please take note how to handle this phone correctly.

Waiting for a touch pad in open market as and when arrive.

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Nokia-stock-back-to-steady-growth_id45242

In the last month, Nokia’s stock has grown by nearly 17% surging from around $3.5 apiece to more than $4.2, and the unveiling of the Lumia 1020 only continues that trend.

While credit agencies have reiterated negative outlooks on Nokia stock, it seems that investors have a different opinion and the shares of the Finnish phone maker are slowly but surely going back to their good days.

It’s hard to track when the investor sentiment started swinging back in Nokia’s favor, but looking at device launches, it’s clear that the Lumia 620 first started it late last year, and in 2013 the Lumia 520 and Lumia 720 were received warmly and sent two huge positive signals to markets.

Now, we have the Lumia 1020, Nokia’s long awaited camera superphone in a slim body and running on the Windows Phone 8 platform. It seems to have gotten the unanimous press award for best cameraphone almost instantly, even prior to the first official reviews. If Nokia prices it right (we suspect the initial $300 on contract price could drop in a few months after the launch), we would not be surprised if the Lumia 1020 becomes the staple of Nokia’s comeback.

Nokia Lumia 520 pushes Windows Phone to bigger than 10% market share in UK | WMPoweruser
We know the Nokia Lumia 520 is a success story, and the only question really is how big at the minute. AdDuplex shows the handset has in only 3 months on the market jumped to be the 3rd most used Windows Phone in UK.

Nokia’s Symbian had an 11.4% market share in March 2011, and 10.7% in June 2011, suggesting rather strongly that Nokia crested the 10% market share once again for the first time in UK since 2011.

Given that Symbian had a 0.1% market share in May 2013 we can be fairly certain Nokia’s market share is a good substitute for Window Phone, meaning UK is joining the list of “strong” Windows Phone markets like Italy, Poland and Russia, and that Nokia is finally starting to see signs of the return on investment which Stephen Elop has been after since the burning platform memo so long ago.

And

Nokia “working very hard on Instagram” | WMPoweruser

With a camera-centric focus the biggest annoyance for Nokia must be that the most popular photo sharing network is not making an app for their platform.

Nokia is not simply sitting around however and waiting for Instagram, who is being run as an independent subsidiary of Facebook, to make up their minds.

TechCrunch spoke to Brian Biniak, Vice President and General Manager of App development at Nokia, who’s job it is to bring popular apps with global reach, like Instagram, to the platform.

He said:

TC: Let’s move on to a tougher question. The Lumia 1020 is clearly built with imaging in mind, and when I think of mobile photography there’s one app that dominates the thought. You know where I’m headed: What’s the deal with Instagram? When can we expect them on the platform and what are you doing to get them there? Have talks begun?
BB: We are working… very hard on Instagram. We’re working closely with Facebook — as you know, we work with them across all kinds of devices. Microsoft has a close relationship with Facebook, which you can see from the Bing decision, and… for Instagram. We’re working on that.
We’ve also extended our relationship with Twitter so Vine will also come to the platform later this year.
Of course due to the presence of apps like Instance and Instagraph much of the pressure from the Windows Phone community itself to get Instagram has been relieved, but it would take an official app to remove the barrier for reviewers and new buyers.

The build and finish quality are certainly among the best in business, although we have to admit the design isn't as striking as it was nearly a year ago, when the Lumia 920 launched. But even if it's a little played out now, the unibody feels impressively sturdy and with the color being inherent to the material and not simply painted on top, it will certainly last a for quite a while and scratches will be harder to spot.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 comes with the same PureMotionHD+ AMOLED display as the Lumia 925. There's Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top, to keep scratches away and provide extra impact resistance. The company chose to move away from LCD panels for its flagships after the Lumia 920 and we suspect the reason for this is keeping the thickness to a reasonable level.

The PureMotionHD+ AMOLED screen is pretty nice
Of course an AMOLED panel has many other advantages such as more vibrant colors and far superior contrast. Nokia has even supplied the Lumia 1020 will a cool color profile app that lets you tune the saturation and color balance to your liking - if oversaturated colors aren't your thing you can go tune them down to more realistic levels and if you like that effect you can go all the way up.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 touchscreen also supports operation with gloves, which might come in handy when operating the flagship in the winter.
As far as image quality is concerned, the Lumia 1020 display performs excellently - it has good brightness levels for an AMOLED screen and excellent viewing angles. Blacks as typical for the technology are as deep as they get.
Camera
Of course, the large sensor and all the impressive tech surrounding it would mean little if the image quality isn't right. Rest assured though, Nokia has enough experience not to mess this up and the image quality of the Lumia 1020 is every bit as impressive as it was expected to be.
Nokia wasted no time after the announcement of the smartphone and posted a bunch of official samples that you can check out below.
Clicking the thumbnails will load the 5MP PureView shots, but you can also check out the full res samples by clicking the links below the images. Thanks to the exclusive Camera Pro lens app that Nokia will be preloading on the Lumia 1020, you don't even have to choose which one you like better - you can shoot both at the same time.

Of course, now that we had the smartphone in our office, we also did a bunch of shots ourselves and we even did an impromptu shootout with the 808 PureView. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to publish the actual samples, but we can share our findings with you.
As far as image quality is concerned, the Nokia Lumia 1020 is really in a class of its own. None of the other high-end smartphones can come even close to the amount of resolved detail that the huge pixel-dense sensor and the 6-element ZEISS lens deliver. The dynamic range is also much higher than any other flagship can offer. At full resolution (38 MP or 34MP) the noise levels are comparable to those of the 13MP Galaxy S4, which is a pretty great achievement given how much more detail you get.
Certainly, the only cameraphone that can come close to the Lumia 1020 output is the Nokia 808 PureView with its even larger sensor. As we already mentioned we compared those two side by side and found that Nokia has slightly altered the processing algorithms in its new cameraphone flagship.
