They are lazy as usual.

Go through this thread and you should be able to find all the correct way to install a tachometer on your car.

Guys my SA says it's not possible to install Ritz Tacho into Dzire Tour because it doesn't come with the wires and ECU doesn't have that option. Should i believe him?[confused]

I think he doesn't know and has not taken the pain to check whether it is possible or not?

Sankar
In the case of A-star's tacho what your SA said is true., It doesn't comes with the wires. the mgp wiring harness costs about 3-6k(i don't actually remember the price, anyhow it is more than 3k). But they gave me an option to get it fixed with an aftermarket wire to reduce the expenses. So i gone with it.

I dont know about the connection, since they were not ready to tell me about it.[confused]

Ya you are right, since its not the regular routine of their work, they literally hesitate to do these kinds of work.

Finally i got it fixed after about 8 months of waiting and by frequently communicating with them. Finally MASS communicated with the maruti and they provided them the directions for the connection.

Tacho on board is really fun to drive [:)]

I need to check if this can be done. I will ask my SA once again and update here. If he denies it again how should i go about it? I really need a tacho as driving experience is so different with a tacho on board[;)]

How is the driving experience enhanced by the tacho?
If the car is new and is in running in period then a tacho effectively helps in keeping the engine revs under 2-2.5k. Without a tachno one can never be sure how much he/she has revved the car.

If the car is diesel then a tacho is must as diesel engines are not free revving and over revving the engine results in poor efficiency and damage to engine in long run and unnoticed engine revving can be monitored if a tacho is installed.
With just engine sound you cant judge at which revs the engine is running. In my case my Dzire engine sounds are heard only during startups because after that my ICE starts playing and i won't be able to hear even horns of other vehicles[;)]

Driving experience of some of us here is to drive a car within it's limits, drive it in most efficient manner, to look after the engine other mechanical and electrical parts in car. For me a tacho will help me make sure that i don't over rev my engine and thus ensures a good driving experience for me.

Just checking to see what exactly you meant by driving experience is enhanced.A lot of people just add a tacho for show.A tacho will definitely extend the life of the clutch.

But when fitting an aftermarket tacho, you need to know the rev limit of your car.Over revving can be extremely harmful to the engine. To know the exact limit, check the top end version of your car. That would have a tachometer in the instrument cluster.Mark the limit on your tacho and then enjoy the enhanced experience.

After market tacho are very expensive is what i have heard. I though of going for Ritz VDi tacho which i hope will suit for my Dzire as both have same engine and ecu.

Yes, the Ritz tachometer will work fine. Both are 4 cylinder engines. The tachometers work on number of cylinders.

For 3 cylinder engined cars, the A-star's tachometer will suffice.

The other tachometers available are either Chinese, stay away from these. The rest are expensive. The Ritz and Astar tachometers are made by Pricol. You can try to find a Pricol made tachometer as well if you do not like the MGP one.

Please get a fuse installed in the tachometer wiring. The tachometers are known to be sensitive to voltage spikes and to die. This applies to anyone who gets an aftermarket tachometer installed.

What did they SA say about the tachometer?
Just contacted the SA through phone. Things i wanted to modify in my car are as follows:-

1) Digital clock that comes in Dzire VDi/ZDi was not present in Dzire Tour LDi. On asking about retrofitting this to my car SA says "Not possible as wires are not their for connection"[anger]

2) Changing door pads of all fur doors to Dzire VDi/ZDi doorpads so that power window switches will be integrated into the door pad handle and will look much better.

SA:- "Door pads not available as accessories. Such "Extensive mods not advisable".

Me:- "All four door pads available to the same dealer's MGA shop located some 10kms from service station".

SA :-"I have no idea and i am sure it can't be done"

My expression [frustration]

3) Can Ritz VDi Tacho be installed in Dzire Tour?

SA:- "No Dzire Tour ECU doesn't have provision for tachometer".

I am 100% sure he hasn't checked with anyone for all the above 3 queries. One of the member in TAI has his elder brother working for MASS in Kerala itself some 300kms from my place. He had confirmed that both Tacho and clock can be installed in Dzire Tour without extensive modifications. Should i raise a complaint about this SA to Maruti Suzuki? How should i deal this situation?

Are the door pads available as MGP parts, if so you can purchase them from the MGP distributor.

http://mgp.co.in/

For the electricals, wait for the warranty to expire, then you can do what you want.
If it is done from MASS it won't affect warranty right? My car's warranty is 2years manufacturer warranty + 2year extended warranty.
