Re: 7 days road trip to the Ghost Town and End of the Country

Day : 6 – Rameswaram – Bangalore - 605 kms

11th April 2013, we checked out at 7 am and started the drive to Bangalore. The route taken is Madurai-Dindigul-Karur-Namakkal-Salem-Hosur. On the way to Rameswaram, we missed out taking pics of Pamban bridge and surroundings as the cam battery got drained. So we wanted to cover it while coming back. At 7.40 am we reached Pamban bridge and stopped the car for a while to take pics.

During morning hours, the view from the bridge was excellent, with the blue sky on top and blue sea at bottom, fishermen busy taking their harvest, and the waiting trucks loading with fishes to transport to the rest of the country and the vendors selling pearls and pictures across the bridge. The glimpse of the blue sea was so pleasant and one could hardly believe that it will be fatal and disastrous when it becomes rough and violent. After taking lot of pics from the bridge we started moving at 8 am. Around 8.30 am we stopped for the breakfast at Ramanathapuram and continued after 45 minutes. Though it was a single road up to Madurai, the road condition was good.

At 10.55 am we reached Madurai, and at 10.59 am our Octy had completed 100000 kms of successful and safe running. When I stopped to take the cluster photo, my wife went and bought a garland for the Octy and I could see both of them are proud and happy. Thanks a million to the GOD.

Three of us i.e, me, wife and octy shared the happiness for a while and continued the trip. Around 12.15 pm we crossed Dindigul. Around 1.30 pm near Karur we stopped for lunch and continued after 50 minutes. Around 3 pm we passed Salem and 5 pm Hosur and 6.15 pm at home. After two days I have to continue my onward trip to Palakkad.

Thank you for the patience to read the TL.

Excellent Travelogue with superb narration coupled with self explanatory and meaningful pictures.Rated the thread a well deserved 5 Star.[clap]

Its been over 15 years since my last visit to Kanyakumari & Rameshwaram.I wish to do a Kanyakumari-Ramaeshwaram this July.
Thinking of Palakkad-Pollachi-Dindigul-Madurai-Rameshwaram route and return via Rameshwaram- Kanyakumari-Thiruvananthapuram-Trissur-Palakkad
Hope it works out this time.

Thank you Manoj. Palakkad-Pollachi road is not in good shape. Instead from Palakkad you can go via Kollengode to Pollachi. The road is excellant. When you visit Rameswaram, consider Danushkodi -- its worth

Sir,

Excellent one more travelogue from you again it made me a virtual tour of kanyakumari and dhanushkodi. Kudo's to the pics and details presented about the history of dhanushkodi which makes me curious about visiting this place sometime in life.

I really appreciate your thrust of driving and visiting places and the patience of posting a nice thread with attaching so many pics with details. I rate this thread as five star and looking forward to meet you some time in Bangalore.[:)]
