Samsung fined $340k in Taiwan over HTC smear campaign

Earlier this year Samsung was found to be associated with two PR agencies in Taiwan, which were paying some guys to besmirching HTC's reputation while praising Samsung products on local online forums.
The Taiwanese Fair Trade Commission started an investigation into the matter and has now come forward with three separate fines regarding the incident.

Samsung's Taiwan business is to pay a NT$10 million penalty (around $340,000), while OpenTide Taiwan Co. and Sales and Profit International Co. were fined NT$3 million (around $102,000) and NT$50,000 (around $1700) respectively.
The FTC views purposefully misleading information and deliberate ii-speaking about competitors an unfair business.
Earlier this year Samsung was fined by the same FTC NT$300,000 (around $10,000) for a misleading ad about the camera of the Samsung Galaxy Y Duous GT-S6102.

I have booked [:)]

Must say MMX has got guts. It has been pricing it's phones as Samsung does.
With these specs at 20K I guess an informed buyer will go for Nexus 4 at just 2-3K more
Thought on it, but Turbo looks better to me.
I had bad experience with LG earlier. Also LG service is pathetic.
I found MMX servive at-least here in pune is ok.

Surfer ,
Look for NFC and MHL Function and also Screen mirroring Function in the mobile.
Which will be very useful for our SMART LED TV's.

AFAIK, Canvas Turbo A250 does not have an external card slot. a major deal breaker. Also battery will be a major challenge.

Internal 16 GB (12.5 user available), 2 GB RAM
you will get around 1 gb for apps.

Agree, But even Nexus 4 got the same thing....
IMO 12 GB is also sufficient...

Truck containing 22,500 LG G2 phones goes missing

The G2 phones were headed for Sprint, which is set to launch its version of the LG flagship device next month.

Talk about your hot phone.
A truck containing 22,500 LG G2 smartphones was stolen on the way to its destination in Louisville, Ky., CNET has learned. The phones were on their way to Sprint, which is expected to launch its version of the G2 early next month.

The phones were stolen at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at a truck stop in Gary, Ind., an LG representative confirmed to CNET. The driver left the truck for a bathroom break, and upon returning, found the vehicle missing.
The Indiana and Illinois state police have been contacted, as well as the FBI.
The G2 is LG's flagship device, and has stood out in the market with its unique volume and power button located at the back of the smartphone, right under the camera. It's a controversial change that has met with mixed reviews.
The G2, like other flagship phones such as the Galaxy S4, iPhone 5S, and HTC One, was released on multiple carriers, with Sprint among the later carriers to sell the device.

LG's unveiled all the details for its often-leaked, curved screen smartphone. Weighing in at 177g with a 6-inch (but 720p) curved OLED display, it's powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM, with a 13-megapixel camera housed above the two rear control buttons, which is now LG's thing. In comparison to Samsung's Galaxy Round, the screen on the G Flex arcs from top to bottom, not side-to-side, which at least makes a little more sense to us, hopefully fitting in better to the curvature of the users' face. We're yet to handle either curved phone IRL just yet, however, when we'll be able to offer up a better perspective on how both devices actually feel.

Like LG's recent G2, there's high-fidelity audio recording and playback, dual-window app functionality and tap-to-wake on that substantial touchscreen. There's also special animations, depending on where and how you unlock the phone. The Korean press release is also reporting that there's a self-healing coating that can repair hairline scratches on the rear of the phone. LG says they are repaired "within minutes." Korean smartphones with the power to control the elements are, however, still TBC. The G Flex will arrive on Korea's three major carriers next month -- but (again) there's no word on global roll-out, hinting that the smartphone could well be a test model for the company.

Nokia Lumia 1520 uses its Assertive display tech to dominate the Xperia Z Ultra, Galaxy Note 3 and iPhone 5s

At the Nokia Lumia 1520 announcement in Abu Dabi, the Finns spent quite a lot of time praising the phablet’s screen – a 6″ ClearBlack IPS LCD with Apica’s Assertive display technology. It essentially brings the screen’s sunlight legibility capabilities to a whole new level, without draining the battery while doing so.

To show just how good the technology actually is, YouTube reviewers from GadgetBoys have put the Lumia 1520 next to the the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the iPhone 5s for a mouth-watering show-off.

All phones get tested in both good and low lighting conditions with their displays turned up to 100% brightness. Check out how the Lumia 1520′s screen with the Assertive display technology manages to outperform the competition in the video below.

As you can see, the Xperia Z Ultra’s Triluminous display gets blown out of the water, as does the iPhone 5s’ IPS display. Even the Galaxy Note 3′s Super AMOLED screen doesn’t manage to hold a candle to the brightness and clarity of the Lumia 1520′s display.

Finnish manufacturer Nokia has scored a victory against HTC today with a British court ruling in its favour over mobile telecoms technology. The judge concluded that HTC had infringed on a European patent held by Nokia - "Modulator structure for a transmitter and a mobile station." Nokia has been in a dispute against HTC in the past, as well as Apple and other tech giants.

With the looming Microsoft acquisition, Nokia will retain its patents to continue its campaign against the competition. A company spokesperson stated that Nokia will now look to seek an injunction against the import and sale of infringing HTC products in the UK, as well as some financial compensation. HTC will be appealing against the court's ruling.

The patent covered today is a modulator, which is used by mobile phones to transmit data. While the HTC hardware were not named in the report, it's interesting to see Nokia continue battling companies in court with its array of patents.
