Earlier i used HATHWAY broadBand, and exprementes with PPPoE it doesnt work and during first few calls hathaway not able to figure out issue blocking internet access and some expert in hathway gave me the same answer and the same answer i got from ACT also, while setting up

So webbased login settings doesnt allow PPPoE
Thanks Madhu. However, a neighbor using ACT claiming to have set up with PPPoE. Not sure whether he is right or not, but he at least said, he never had to log in thru webpage to access Wi-Fi. I will go check his settings tonight.

Got it! It's done in just 2 days. Requested yesterday, the guy was at home by 12 Noon and picked the docs. Connection and activation done today [:D] The overall installation experience was hassle free and quick. I chose 6 Mths advance rental plan as it saves 1 Month's Subscription and Installation charges of 500. Here is the speed test result.

Good to see/know that you too chose ACT Broadband.
See and be glad and proud that you are 96% Faster than other Indians!!!

Bought D-Link DIR 600L as suggested by the ACT guy.
I bought 'Netgear JNR1010 N150 Wireless Router' suggested by ACT Guys. Different routers for different states ???[lol]

Hahahaha [lol] Good one.

Now, how is the router configured? DHCP or PPPoE? In simple terms, do you need to login to ACT Portal (Webpage) to access Wifi on you mobile or other devices?

If you logged in once, You don't want to login again in anyother device that is connected to the router until you restart it again.

I didn't setup anything. Just I plugged in the LAN plug to the Blue Port (on the rear side of the router) and it showed the ACT Portal.

This is the screen I get when I go to 'Internet Setup' page in my router. This *MAY* help you. screenshot_45.png

Hello,
I use BSNL Wimax wireless broadband with monthly rs750 plan. Along with it, I have a D-link wifi router. I get a speed about 90-110 kbps on Internet Download Manager(IDM).

Hello,

My suggestion: Just drop BSNL. Go to some other like ACT, Airtel, etc.

BSNL are only low in costs. they may seem a better value for money on the brochure but use it in day-to-day life, you will literally bang your head on wall.
Even I too had BSNL one and half yrs ago and I was using 1.5 Mbps plan. I expected atleast 90Kb/s but got only 50 kbps.

P.S. The above is my experience with BSNL and I am in Chennai. NO OFFENCE TO ANYONE ESP. BSNL.

Now, a question on Router configuration. I tried doing it myself and chose PPPoE. Though it connected for the 1st time, never again later. Despite multiple trial and resets, I gave up and called the ACT guy. He too tried the same and could never succeed. He finally configured it as DHCP instead. Though Wi-Fi is working fine, I have to login using ACT credentials to access Wi-Fi, which is not the case with PPPoE I suppose. I called up D-Link support today and they confused me saying PPPoE type configuration is "not" possible if your ISP security login in Webpage based.

Is that true? Can't we configure it as PPPoE with ACT BB? If so, how did it work for me for the first time? Confused...

Finally, I did it myself, with a bit of google search! Thanks to this blogger Get rid of the Login Page on your ACT Broadband Connection | > 140 characters The time and efforts spent with ACT Customer Care Phone and their technicians was done away in just few seconds. Yup, I just had to change the MTU from default 1492 to 1454 as mentioned in the blog. That's it! [clap] No need of login to ACT portal anymore. Wi-Fi is accessible anytime.

BTW, the experience with ACT was pretty bad in this matter. I called the sales guy on last Friday after I got the Router. He asked me to call up the customer care to raise a ticket and pass it on to him. Note: He said it very differently while taking the connection. "Sir, just let me know once you get the router, I will get it done." Well, you are now a customer right?! Anyways, I did as he said, and sent him the ticket number. That's it, he never, ever answered my call thereafter. When I called him for the new connection, he landed up in my place within 30 mins. See the difference. Well, you are now a customer right?!

Then I called the other guy who came for installation. He came on Saturday and tried all his tricks. Nothing worked, moreover I don't see him to be technically strong. He couldn't even do the things I did myself. He went off by connecting it over DHCP.

As the sales guy never answered my call or never responded, I had no choice than calling up the call center. They first said, the issue will be attended with in 4 hours, the next day it turned out to be 24 hours, and the next day it turned out to be 24 business hours! Hmmmm... Well, you are now a customer right?! After a bit of escalation, another guy landed yesterday morning. No luck again. He couldn't do any wonders to set it up as PPPoE. Are they really technicians? I wonder. However, in my neighbor's house the ACT technician did it in just flat 10 mins, while I was there and it was in PPPoE. Unfortunately, we didn't remember his name or number.

Finally, after I did it myself based on the mentioned blog, 2 other guys came up by last night. After giving them some bashing, I showed them what I did, just to confirm that the setting is perfect. They were affirmative! Story ends.

BTW, those guys would not even have reached the lift from my home, I got a message from ACT that my issue has been resolved. Woowwww! How just this alone can be so quick?! That too for a solution I did myself. That's the customer care of our nation.

PS: Anyone want to make use of this setting, try it and if it works, say thanks to that blogger.

Well, my experience with BSNL has been very good. Even when I used 2G I used to get decent speeds. The place where I live do not have many high speed internet providers. Earlier, went with Reliance Netconnect+ and the experience was good for 1 year but after which the network never used to come and if came then high speed1X used to come )it had two modes high speed 1x and netconnect9, high speed 1x gave speed of about 12-13kbps and 25 at max whereas netconnect+ gave about 200-250kbps, both on IDM). I was paying rs800 for 5GB and was frustrated. Then bought BSNL Wimax wireless broadband. Plan is of rs750 which gives unlimited usage and a speed of about 90-110kbps on IDM - many months I have downloaded data of more than 30GBs only on the desktop (I have a wifi router attached with the same plan and it is used on a laptop, two cells and one desktop) excluding usage on other devices and still after 2 years I am extremely happy with their service!! Punekars - I will be moving back to Pune by June [:D] Which is the best service there now? I am using ACT in Bangalore on 20 MBPS/50 GB plan. Though I really doubt of such options there, but anything closer? The area I am planning is Wakad / Balewadi / Baner.
