Re: Any TAI-an with ACT Broadband,Chennai ?

Count me in !
I use that 999 plan you mentioned above. And the FUP or that plan is 40 GB and not 20 GB

So here is a review:

- ACT Broadband
- Subscribed Package : CHNACT Blaze
- No FUP limit for uploads
- Quota: 40 GB
- Speed: Torrents=2.8 Mb/s (according to seeds) Normal Downloads: 2.5 - 3.0 Mb/s (Good servers)
- No Connectivity issues but beware, the LAN cable that they give will break easily if bended.
- A.S.S : ASS is good. We called the cust. care for booking a connection at 5:30 PM and a ACT serviceman knocked our door at 6:15 PM. Good !

How to buy a speed reload pack for Tata Photon Max?

So, before you think about telling me to continue on low speeds, let me tell you that from the time I thought about asking this question and coming to this page, I had to reconnect my Tata Photon Max thrice, reload the Member's Lounge twice and last but not the least, finished a pack of aloo bhujia, because I'm running on Tata Photon Whiz service. After using all of the 12 GB of HSIA speeds, am running on Whiz which gives me too much trouble. Back to the point, I wanna get rid of this. On their tariffs page, they have stated about some reload packs. I wanna get one of these but just cannot figure out from where. Scavenged the internet to no avail. Can anyone tell me how to get a speed reload pack for Tata Docomo Photon Max? I am in the Maharashtra and Goa telecom circle. Here's the page:
Photon Max Wi-Fi Internet Prepaid & Postpaid Plans | Photon Wi-Fi from Tata Docomo

Check the "Postpay Offers" tab and scroll down to Reload Packs.

Please help.

Brother, Reliance has come up with a new pack 999/- for 40GB 3.1Mbps plan postpaid. I'm thinking of going that way since I'm paying pretty much the same amount for Tata Photon+ and connectivity wise both are similar. I think you should also have a look at the plan and check out if the connectivity is good enough in your area for Reliance, you can give that a try if it's feasible enough.[:)]

Thanks bro, but I'm not so sure about connectivity. Once bought a SIM from Reliance, hacked it (My bro's friend's dad was in Reliance who knew about a code [:D]) and tried 2g internet on the then-treasured Nokia 6600, it was super slow. But thanks anyway!

Finally, I too have decided to take broadband, and it's ACT of course. Have a couple of friends in my apartment and they are much much happy with their service.

I too have thought of ACT Blaze which is 20 MBPS and 50 GB FUP.

Got it! It's done in just 2 days. Requested yesterday, the guy was at home by 12 Noon and picked the docs. Connection and activation done today [:D] The overall installation experience was hassle free and quick. I chose 6 Mths advance rental plan as it saves 1 Month's Subscription and Installation charges of 500. Here is the speed test result.

BTW, want suggestions on Router. I don't know which one to choose.

Planning to buy tomorrow. So, any quick suggestions would help me better.
Bought D-Link DIR 600L as suggested by the ACT guy. It costed 944 bucks at Snapdeal. Yet to get it on hand and expecting by this weekend.

Sure Madhu. Do you want to suggest anything in particular?
first thing i learnt was knowing how to reset and where is the factory reset button located and how to do the same using the router url / software given by router company

i just understand and did the below three things,

1. if parental guideline software (prevent your kid from accessing xxx content) this can be done in windows OS user admin (if you give specific login id for kid) also and seperate tools also available, and in router even one step ahead you can restrict the internat accessing time duration, block internet access for specific time frame, and block access for specific days in a week are just very few things to say about, where in so many other things like setting static ip and restricting number of system/ device simultanious connection and so on are there.

2. Change the default admin id and password first for safer sake as all routers manufactured by the brand gives the same default id and password for all their routers/devices.

3. put a hard to crack pasword for connecting or accessing router (example if your favourite cartoon is "Doremon" then easy to set password as"D0r3M0n@1pm"

Yes. But not the need of hour as my kid is just 5 yrs old [:D]

Sure thing. Thanks.

Yes, of course. It's even better to keep regional languages which is extremely hard to guess. Eg: Yen-WiFi-Venuma? (Do you need my WiFi in Tamil [lol]). Even if you share it with others, they will forget it in seconds.

It was a disaster to choose Snapdeal. I ordered the D-Link Wireless Router on 20th Oct thru Snapdeal and never received it till last week (30th). As per the tracking status, the package has been misrouted. Tried writing to both Snapdeal & Courier company, but no response from either. Neither, I am allowed even to cancel the order online.

The worst thing is, they don't have a customer service number listed in their website. After a bit of google, got a number and called them up. The executives were quite rude and have no idea where my package is and when will it reach! I requested for cancellation and they surprisingly agreed.

Immediately, I booked the same router from Flipkart on 30th evening and got it delivered the very next day, 31st. Thumbs up to Flipkart [cheers]

BTW, I cancelled it with Snapdeal on 30th and yet not lucky to get a confirmation from them. In the meanwhile, got the package yesterday, which I returned saying it's already cancelled.

Now, a question on Router configuration. I tried doing it myself and chose PPPoE. Though it connected for the 1st time, never again later. Despite multiple trial and resets, I gave up and called the ACT guy. He too tried the same and could never succeed. He finally configured it as DHCP instead. Though Wi-Fi is working fine, I have to login using ACT credentials to access Wi-Fi, which is not the case with PPPoE I suppose. I called up D-Link support today and they confused me saying PPPoE type configuration is "not" possible if your ISP security login in Webpage based.

Is that true? Can't we configure it as PPPoE with ACT BB? If so, how did it work for me for the first time? Confused... [confused]

Earlier i used HATHWAY broadBand, and exprementes with PPPoE it doesnt work and during first few calls hathaway not able to figure out issue blocking internet access and some expert in hathway gave me the same answer and the same answer i got from ACT also, while setting up

So webbased login settings doesnt allow PPPoE
