Re: Vehicle Insurance - General Questions / Discussion

Thanks man for the detailed explanation, I may forgo HID kits and Roof lights for a year. However Roof rack is mandatory (XuV 500).

Can you tell me about Body stickers/Decals and LED strips? Since these are unavailable at the dealer, these will be installed AFTER the insurance survey. I don't think they can mess up anything. Decals/Graphics are just peel and stick although they totally change the appearance of car.
Help me bro! I am tensed!
Roof rack/Graphics will not be any issue. However stay off from doing any LED stuff if it touches OEM electrical wiring anywhere.

Cheers,
Anshuman

Thanks for the warning. I was planning to Join the LED strips along the parking lights so that they turn on whenever parking lights are enabled. Then shall i have seperate wiring/Relay and distinct switch on the dashboard for the same? I am more worried because all the mods will be done after Insurance survey. They take photos as well, I remember. Body stickers/Graphics will make the vehicle look very different from the photos.

I do not think insurance guys will take photos of the new car. I got my car insurance from an agent, he did not even see the car leave alone taking pictures. One of my friend recently bought i20 and he got his insurance online, so no photo again.

You can do LEDs with relay make sure you do not touch OEM wiring.

If your policy expires before you renew your policy then they have to take the photo and have to take the ODO reading.
Otherwise they do not need to or they skip this formality.

You are correct but that is only in case of used cars/renewal cases. But bhvm asked about buying a new car he said.

Ok, sorry, in this case they might not need a photo because the car cannot be registered with scratches, the dealer may note and send the ODO reading with the vehicle details.

Re: Vehicle Insurance - General Questions / Discussion -NCB info

Hi Team TAI,

I am planning to buy a Maruti Ritz.I have opted to give my old car under the exchange scheme.
I would like to know how can I claim the No Claim Bonus for my old car' insurance? Can the experts here shed some light on this?

I was told by the SE that I would get my NCB only after they sell my old car to another buyer, and that I need to pay the entire insurance amount for the new car now.I am really under the impression that he is not correct in saying that.

Hoping someone would be able to answer my query.

Thanks,

Hello Dhananjay,

Welcome to TAI.

You have a very valid question. Usually the SEs misguide people on this issue.

The NCB of the old car can be transferred to the new car only when you buy another new insurance policy (TP/Comp) for your old car. That may be in your name or new buyer's name. Check with the insurance co/agent with whom your old car is insured as of now. They should guide you.

Once you get the new policy, get the NCB certificate from your existing insurer. Submit it to your new insurer and get the NCB amount deducted from your new car policy.

Advise - To make the process easy get the new car insurance from you existing car insurer/agent so they will be eager to help you.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for the reply Anshuman. The old car' insurance is in my dad's name, while the new car is being purchased under my name. So, in this case I will not be able to claim the NCB from old insurance at all?
I will check with National Insurance and also find with Maruti guys if I can opt for the same insurer .

You can claim the insurance, only if the old car is being transferred/sold to you. Else you have to go for fresh insurance.

Tip- For buying fresh insurance , do not buy from the showroom, buy it from the market, it will save you quite a penny. Opt for same insurer MASS has cashless tie up, but get it from outside agent/online so you will save few thousands. By the way which car are you buying?

Anshuman,

Thanks again for your reply.[:)]
As I told in my first post,I am planning to buy a Ritz VDI-ABS. Any thoughts on the vehicle?? I was initially informed that if I can submit a relationship proof then it would be possible to get the NCB of dad' insurance transferred to my new car' insurance. Was that wrong?

Thanks,

Good choice of the car ! Its a very good vehicle, there are many people on the forum who own it.
Coming back to insurance, no you cannot claim NCB by relationship proof. NCB belongs to a person, not vehicle.
Please refer to my earlier post, you can buy online insurance or through outside agent at much lesser price.
e.g. HDFC-Ergo is quoting online 15K for IDV of 5.75L.

Re: Vehicle Insurance - General Questions / Discussion

Hi Anshuman,

I got in touch with New India Assurance and spoke to them.they confirmed that NCB cannot be transferred between people .You were precisely correct.

They suggested that I cancel the existing policy,go for a new third party cover for the old car and get the NCB certificate for existing policy in my dad' name which can be used by him during his next car purchase(which is valid for 3 years).

Since I am not selling the old car right away to another party and giving it under exchange plan, the 3rd party insurance insurance would be necessary in this case as the car cannot be without any insurance until its sold by Maruti True value to another buyer.

Again, thanks a lot for your replies. It cleared my confusions.[:)]

Thanks,

Re: Vehicle Insurance - General Questions / Discussion

Do Reliance have cashless tie up with MASS?
How much they are quoting and what is the IDV?

What are the other quotes?
