@Richie:
Yes, Dzire is a sedan at the same price range as Jazz's. But, even after being a sedan it doesn't offer the spacing compared to Jazz (interior,Boot). As far as I am concerned, a hatch would be easier to handle/park in cities and crowded areas. So, i have an edge towards hatches. I think the swift costs atleast 50k lesser than dzire, but offers handling and fun-to-drive element. Compared to Jazz and Swift, even though Swift would fetch better while resale, still I feel Jazz is a better package!

Yes ASS/parts will be expensive no doubt. My 2nd service costed my 2800 bucks just for an engine oil change (no labour mind you, since it was a free service)/QUOTE]
[surprise] this amount twice an year is too much, isn't it?

Thanks for your inputs guys!

Between the Jazz and the Dzire, I would say go for the Jazz . As Jazzy said, both have its own pros and cons. Both being similar only in the sense that both has excellent 1.2L motors. Agreed with the fact that Jazz is still unknown amongst many Indians. Even many of my relatives dunno about jazz . Almost every youngsters know . Dzire will fetch you a bit more on resale value. But, why arent you considering the Swift ZXi? Dzire has almost/exactly the same interior as that of Swift. The boot though is larger than Swift's but is still smaller than Jazz's humongous 384L. But, most of us wont be needing the 384L, do we? [;)]
Yeah. Jazz is still dear to us. Just that we aren't sure now whether we'll be going for it.
btw, on the pricing front, no discounts on Jazz even though it's not that haute a hatch as of now! Strange.

Swift Vxi is costing around 5.5L OTR while Zxi will be costing around 6.5L OTR. We don't want to spend around 6.5L on a petrol engine even though the features justify the price hike. But petrol + 6.5L doesn't sound good to us :(

We would rather get a VXi, upsize the tyresto get rid of the poor braking and be done with it.

And yes., 384L is huge any day. Atleast for commoners like me!

As you are a jazz owner, no objections. But, someone on fb asked about the cost of Headlight of Jazz and someone said(after confirmation with dealer) its only 2.1K or so. Many said, its not on the high side and is still cheap compared to Ford's Headlights.( Fusion owner said Fusion's cost around 5K). I don't know about this, as I'm only experienced to Maruti's. Just shared what i came to know.
Not sure about ford but in general, I've heard that Honda after sales isn't that great and pricey too. Since the car is primarily for my parents, I don't want them to pay high prices too often! Hence, after sales is an important factor for us.

Please don't opt for CNG/LPG. If you need to save a few bucks in that manner, go buy a diesel. First of all, as jazzy said, it will void your warranty. Secondly, it will ruin your car. If you want such a car, go for a one, which is factory fitted like Wagon R .
I did read up about a lot of swifts being converted to CNG but didn't get to see the same being done for too many dzires.
Also, when I mentioned to convert to CNG, I meant to convert after a good 5 yrs when all warranty constrains are taken care of.
May be we should start thinking of diesel!

I do agree with you. Jazz is a world class product with a super silent engine which loves to be revved(petrol heads will love this) . It was sold in smaller numbers only due to the high price tag.
Now it would have gained sales numbers if the waiting period was low.[;)]
Dont go for LPG/CNg in this. It will destroy the wonderful machine.
If you are concerned about fuel go for diesel.
Well, CNG/LPG kits can be fitted on cars but that will void manufacturers warranty, unless the car comes fitted with one. My suggestion is if your'e buying Jazz please don't install CNG/LPG. Actually theres no point in spending so much on a premium hatch & then spoiling all the driving fun by doing this. Rather you should look at cars like Spark, WagonR which comes factory fitted with these options.

Cheers

Jazzy
Completely got the point sire! I do realize Honda petrols are among the best in the world!
From more analysis, I understand that the low end torque of Jazz won't gel well with CNG and the sheer brilliance of the petrol engine might just get ruined on the Jazz.

I wonder why doesn't the same happen with swift? better low end torque again?

My parents feel that dzire is more spacious than swift (atleast it feels so). I also find swift is not that spacious. That's the reason we were considering the dzire and not the swift.

Sure it is!

Check Polo 1.6. Its a hot hatch. Good Build , High speed Dynamics and Handling. Will get 50,000 discount also
Polo 1.6 comes only in the Highline variant and the price to pay would cross 6.5L even after discounts. We don't want to spend that much money on a petrol version sir!

In a new development, my father asked me to check Polo diesel trendline variant. So it seems we are taking a look at diesel cars also now [:)]

Price wise, it'll ~ 6.35L OTR but after discounts, it'll come within range I think.

- It offers basic set of features which might be a comprise to those offered in a Jazz or a Dzire but then it's a diesel

- Avg around 13 - 15 kmpl in city while ~ 17 kmpl on highway. Seems okay.

- Since the service interval is every 15000 kms, money spent on service won't be less but won't be too much as compared to other cars in the same segment. I read on the internet that each service is about 5-6k. Is this true?
How much does swift/dzire service cost?

- 3 cylinder engine: Not too sure whether to go with this? Any comments?

- Any idea on how pricey are the spares of Polo?

- Any comments on the after sales service guys? Since VV is still new in India, I am not sure how competitively have they priced spares and how good is their after sales service? Will it be too pricey to maintain a Polo?

- Any -ves in particular?

Any general comments are also welcome.

After the first few replies, I feel I'm discussing such things with people who know their stuff! Thanks guys!

Cheers!

Hi
Nowadays not much happens in engine front for Honda. In Petrol engines the leaders are Twinair(Fiat) and VW TSI. But we indian's still think Honda's are the best.I think a price for honda's advertisement, reliability and brand image. Actually Variable Valve technology was a brain child of Fiat and Honda contribute in it's development. But past 2005 not so much development in engine front, actually they got recognition for Hybrid's in 2005 for Honda Insight IMA(Integrated Motor Technology). IMA was their Hybrid technology. But in forums still best petrol, then its Honda. I think we indian's love all japanese siblings. Reliability matters.

About the polo, i think it's a lilltle unrefined compaed to competition. But try yourself. The power output of an engine is irrespective of the number of cylinders. Theoretically even a single cylinder engine can deliver the same power as a four or six cylinder engine, if designed accordingly. More than power delivered, the way in which the power delivered makes the difference and have greater impact in a practical scenario. But the advantage is fuel efficiency.

The ASS of VW << Honda < Maruti( Disclaimer: I didn't have a Honda or VW car but i deduce this from the forums and it's my personal opinion). So let owner's speak.
In practical scenario, the performance, comfort and fuel efficiency of a car depends on many other factors such as aerodynamics, weight of passengers etc . So do not generalize that all three cylinder ones are fuel efficient and all four cylinder ones are better to drive. It depends on factors like the engine refinement, quality components, performance of the Driver assistance subsystems etc.

If petrol is your priority, Why don't you check out Polo Petrol? I own one

Yes, In fact such figures are attained in petrol, diesel figures go even higher. Check a few ownership reports of Polo Diesel.

I don't know about desire. But average Polo service comes to around 6-7k per 15k kms or one year.

Well, please go through nithin_v's post above. You need to drive the car to know what a 3 cylinder engine can do. I am sure you won't talk about this 3 pot thing after you drive it.

- Any idea on how pricey are the spares of Polo?
Yes, spares are costly due to high quality parts used.

- Any comments on the after sales service guys? Since VV is still new in India, I am not sure how competitively have they priced spares and how good is their after sales service? Will it be too pricey to maintain a Polo?

After sales is improving. Particularly in Bangalore, I guess there are ample dealerships and service centers to take care, as there are a no. of VW car owners in the city.

- Any -ves in particular?
Trendline doesn't have airbags, alloy wheels, front fog lamps, stereo, height adjustable seats. You can check their website for more.

Any general comments are also welcome.

I am assuming that you need this car for your parents. If so, I would strongly recommend to consider POLO. It is built strong to last for years, classic design and great ride quality.

VW Polo is a 'no nonsense car'. Its built tough. The sturdiness can be felt inside the cabin. Interior quality is also good. As we all know the TDI engine which is well known for the turbo lag is a negative. Its quite evident when you steer it through traffic in the city. The engine doesn't have the capacity to use the handling capabilities of the car. If you are not concerned about the engine VW polo would be good.
After Sales Service:- Only owners of VW vehicles can suitably judge them !

Richie, Polo Tdi trendline is a good option. But, it has got serious limitations. Cant call it a VFM proposition. It lacks abs, alloys, fogs, rear defoggers, height-adjust(this may/may not matters) , airbags. Of these, airbags are only necessary if your parents drive at high speeds in highways. If its primarily for city use, it doesn't matter. You can get the ORVM and doorhandles painted with body color, to make people believe as though it is a Comfortline.[;)] You can get yourself an ample music system for 20K . But, regarding the service costs, well, its on the high side. One of my Friends is the owner of first polo(1.2L P) in our city. He said his polo has parts imported , direct from Germany and that current polos have parts made from India. Although it seems to be true , Dunno, if he is trying to pull my leg[:D]. He said maintenance is about 8-10K and that a major part of this is spent in synthetic oil change. Parts cost is also higher. Parts costs doesnt matter much, if you get yourself a 0% depreciation insurance. But, even though these are on the higher side, you are getting a car that is build very well. Material quality seems top notch and you can feel it once you are inside it. The chassis is a delight and you can make it go around corners with a smile on your face. But, handling matters only if you take it to its limits and i personally don't think your Dad will do that. The 3-cylinder motor has higher NVH and typical turbolag. But, this turbolag wont matter much, if its your first diesel car, because turbo still kicks and you get ample torque about 2000rpm unlike 4000 in most petrol motors.

So, it has both pros and cons . But, remember, you are getting a German build car and a diesel motor. So, no tension during price hikes. If you still think your runnings are low, go for Polo 1.2HL. If you want a proper VFM, go for Figo Tdci Titanium. Now, you do have anniversary offers.

Hey, I got a call from Fiat dealer. He said he would give me free insurance + corporate discount + exchange bonus for the Grande Punto. Also he would give free accessories (Sun film + Parking Sensor + few more stuffs). When I compared, the Punto Dynamic would just cost me 6.6Lakh. The jazz would be 6.4 without any accessories. [anger]
Emotion would be 7.2Lakh.

@akhilgopalg:
This looks like more VFM, doesn't it? Should I look forward for it?

Why not?! Go for it. We already discussed the pros of punto. Baragin a bit more and you could get it even better. Just tell him the emotion is put of your budget and that will go for it, if its 7L. Bargain and you'll get offers. Again, make it fast. Budget arrives by friday. If no hikes, then no problem. But, if there is a hike, then its a worry. So make it fast. If at all he agrees emotion at 7L, then make him to give you the car, exempting hikes, if budget goes against you.

It is a good offer. If you are ready to spend 6.4 for a petrol mill, then +20k - 30 k extra for a diesel mill will always sensible. If you are ok with punto go for it.Who was the dealer ? Concorde or RF ?

Concorde. Also, should i look out for emotion? (Music controls + Blue & me+ leather steering + bigger wheels + alloys + auto AC +airbags)

Yes, its a very good deal. Punto is a beautiful car. But, I am not very attracted to its interiors. :( Any punto owners can tell me about the interiors, quality, space?
How is the stock music system quality?

Anand, no point in asking old owners about interiors. Because i heard that 2012 model has sprted almost every interior problems regarding fit and finish. You could know everything and you can even rate the audio system by TD a 2012 model. Go and do it tomorrow. Although interior may not seem luxurious, its a nice place to be in. Absorbs almost every pothole and seats are very supportive too.only problems were with fit and finish.

again +1 to Akhil. Go for a testdrive. You should come with your own feel on a car. Weightage of opinions will be only 30%.

I bought the car in december 2011. i heard that from june 2011 onwards there are some changes in fit and finish, a slight weight reduction compared to older models. After 2500 kms, i dont face any rattles, no fit and finish problems like the 2009-2010 models. As far as i know, 2012 ones are improved in fit and finish.

If you have money. go for emotion. You will get 195/R15 tyres, Blue me, ACC (a boom, i think this will increase in mileage), audio controls.
