Irritating cost cutting I found in my d4d corolla are the
1. keys without an inbuilt remote(compared to the innova)
2. Lack of electrically adjustable seats(compared to the petrol altis)

Re: The Cost Cutting Gimmicks on Cars in India

no sidestep in Mahindra Xylo D2- how do they want to passengers to go in? jump?
Heck, this is NEWS for me. Maybe this is the reason why Xylo comparo can be done with Ertiga on price front.
And whats the use of 7 seats if one has to carry a stool for passengers to get in & out ! [lol]

cost cutting in i10
they didn't provide good head supports in the front seats.
as you can see in the picture.
The Santro XS model had adjustable head-rests in front & rear & I was shocked when I came to know that even top end i10 doesn't have one.

Alto's basic/ high end variant :

No left side sun visor - very important one
No left side RVM
No plastic trims on A,B & C pillars - looks very odd..
No Adjustable Head rests - Even in LXI
Key for petrol lid - Cable type costs some hundreds !
No Engine temperature gauge..

Many more....
Don't know much about Alto, sat once for 15 mins & my legs were paining miserably [cry]. But not having LHS sun visor is really cheap. Atleast Maruti could have given some rolled newspaper stacked there.[;)]
No wonder then Swift is selling more than Alto now. Infact I don't understand why people buy Alto, especially higher end models. Better to buy lower end Wagon-R rather. Atleast comfort is more than alto.

Re: The Cost Cutting Gimmicks on Cars in India

for once your grouse is unwarranted coz u opted the lowest possible variant of a Xylo.
bro i agree with you greatly. but somethings like a CLOCK!!! really?
Even the base model of Indica comes with clock. And what M & M is doing here is not cost saving but 'Chindhi-giri'.[anger]

And here is another one from BMW-

They don't offer spare wheel in India but give one in Singapore.
Bada Makhichoos Wala. Imagine BMW being stranded on road just because they don't have tyre for replacing one.[lol]

And Swift used to give steel spare wheel even on top end models having alloy wheels.

Please dont complain just for the heck of it. For once, keep your hatred against Mahindra aside.

Xylo D2 is cheaper than Ertiga LDi by 40k. Inspite of the bigger Xylo having more features (power windows, rear AC vents, etc.), more space and more power (95 bhp).

Use 5k out of the 40k you save and get the side steps installed. You still save 35k.

Or simply get the D4 for the same price of the base Ertiga (LDi) and get all the above plus your side step !!!

It has nothing to do with M & M. Infact, we own one, a tractor though [;)]. Issue is why not basic thing given in the UV ? How can there be no step at first place ? Tomorrow they will even start having seats, steering etc. as optional [lol].

Get this - no spare wheel in a Volvo S60
Volvo is now Chinese, so they will do this type of cost cutting in any case. Now it being Chinese I even doubt whether the air-bags will come out in case of accident.[lol]

This is the reason you feel all M&Ms are crude I suppose. Anyways...

Because to give it at such a low price, they have to cut costs somewhere. And they have cut costs but getting rid of the not-so-essential equipment. If someone wants all creature comforts, then they will buy the top end.

And Xylo is not a tall SUV like Pajero Sport or Fortuner that it ABSOLUTELY needs a side step. Its an MUV after all. An average adult would never need to use a side step in the Xylo.

And as I said, those side steps are available as optional accessories, if you want you can buy them.

Because to give it at such a low price, they have to cut costs somewhere. This somewhere doesn’t mean that shred the features or uses the substandard parts.

And they have cut costs but getting rid of the not-so-essential equipment.
Don’t you think that they (read all manufacturers) has got many areas to cut down the cost rather getting rid of the essential equipment.

If someone wants all creature comforts, then they will buy the top end.

This statements holds true if posted in ‘’THE CUSTOMER INDIA FORUM’’ participated by all the auto manufacturing and sales and service professionals ( if available)

And Xylo is not a tall SUV like Pajero Sport or Fortuner that it ABSOLUTELY needs a side step. Its an MUV after all. An average adult would never need to use a side step in the Xylo.
What a judgment
And as I said, those side steps are available as optional accessories, if you want you can buy them.

If an average built person doesn’t use the sidestep then all the money invested in R&D, Design, Production, Sales, Logistics (for sidestep) install on top end and sell as accessory is waste.
