Vijay, the point that you have raised is an issue everywhere in India. We call it "chalta hai" attitude. Anybody can park anywhere and do there loading, unloading, shopping, fighting and what all!!.
Attaching two pics, where Police was there and they do nothing (in Namma Bangaluru).
The real reason is no infrastructure development.
Its a myth to think that if all of us uses buses the traffic will come down. The BMTC and KSRTC buses are the real choke creators.

Regarding the pictures, first one was a breakdown by which half an hour there was a traffic jam.The vehicle could have been pushed to the left side .Instead they waited for the crane. The second is the same place opposite direction where the bus had stopped on the road and the passengers were alighting .This is NH209.

Today i saw three police who were busy in checking license and papers of auto rickshaws and two wheeler, but sadly were not noticing the signal jumpers just behind them.
The signal though colored anything, all cars, buses and movable objects on road were passing it. [frustration]

My friend once rode a bike which didnt had papers and caught up with Police, he silently went near the cop and slipped a Rs. 100 note to his pocket and went with no problems.

In Chennai, vehicle drivers stop right in the middle of the road if and when they wish. Reasons may be numerous, attending phone calls, fighting with another driver, or just like that.
If we point this out to them, they just say "there is lots of space around just overtake and go".
But if we stop at a red signal, the last 3 second countdown will be met with furious honking from behind, as if its a drag race.
This is most true especially with MTC bus drivers and auto drivers.
Even driving schools do not insist on pulling on to the left most side while parking/stopping.
I guess it might be our culture not to bother/care about our fellow citizens leave alone the danger of stopping in the middle of the road and getting hit by another vehicle from behind.
This attitude causes a lot of accidents on highways as truck drivers happily park in the middle at the drop of a hat. No wonder we are the toppers in road accidents.
India has overtaken China in terms of the number of road accidents.India recorded 105,000 traffic deaths in a year, followed by China with over 96,000 deaths.
Nearly 300 Indians die daily on Indian roads.

Why Road Safety is a crucial issue for India's growth?
The points which you have mentioned above are almost happening in all major towns on India. People's now a days have lost their patience about waiting for few seconds, every one is in hurry and they have no time to see whats happening in their surroundings. We Indians need to live with this [frustration]

Yesterday, near my house, one taxi driver scratched a bike slightly.
The owner stopped the bike suddenly in middle of the road, and shouted, Dei ****, veliya vaada **** (Hey ****, come out ****), Onna iniku summa vida maten ****, mariyathaya kasu kudu (I wont let you go easily, pay me and go).
That driver shouted, Neethaan da loosu maari vantha, naa ennatha pannen, poda **** (You only came like an idiot, I didnt do something idiotic, you ****), kasu laam kuduka mudiyathu, poi vera aala paaru (Never dream of me giving cash to you, I will never give, go and do something and not argue with me).
And the discussion continued with **** words.
The funniest thing here is the cops supported this fight!

Im sorry. I live and drive in Chennai. Havent really experienced driving in other Indian cities.
Thought Chennai was the worst[cry]
But stayed for some time in Tokyo, Japan. Really wished I could live there forever, just for the polite, disciplined behaviour of the Japanese and their road sense.
BTW they use the superb train network there and few cars are seen on the roads.[drive]

So the other day I bent down to clean the base of the car door, and saw a lovely dent on the running board (not sure it's called that), probably by a biker's footrest. And then another day some more dents on the doors, small ones but quite prominent. Their bike clutch/brake handles made those. Why do these guys expect respect when they don't give a slightest bit of it. Squeeze in, and then blame the other guy if your bike is scratched. [frustration]

OT: How is your Zest booking so far? [:D]

Cops are very clear on why they are there; safety for the majority. In cases as described by you, they check if anyone is injured. If NOT, they know that people will wear out fast and wait for the issue to settle down. If it is still alive and causing trouble to others after some time, they advise the concerned to visit the nearest traffic police station. One more reason why they are cautious is "they do not know which one is a VIP".

I felt Delhi traffic was the worst when I lived there. Then I felt/feel BLR traffic is super worst. Spent some 10 days in Hyderabad a few years back and found myself screaming whenever 2W drivers drove towards my Taxi with an intention to commit suicide. Whenever I drive in Chennai, I wonder if all bad drivers from BLR had come to CHN. Every time I cross Salem (in TN) at least one biker hits my rear bumper on the roundabouts and disappear faster than Election Promises.

Reason is lack of discipline from drivers. Sometime back in BLR, the cops were NOT allowing drivers to turn from the WRONG lane; drivers were FORCED to follow THEIR lane till the next roundabout or turn. It was brilliant and fun. Yo our beloved and friendly COPS, PLEASE implement it, ALL OVER INDIA.

BTW, there's no need to look at Tokyo / Paris / London etc. Soooo many drivers in Delhi use Metro.

I have seen many activas, scootys etc drive with the footrest in the "open" position even when there is no pillion rider behind.
I personally think this is a very dangerous thing to do as it may cause injuries to other two wheeler riders, pedestrians apart from causing damage to other vehicles like in the above mentioned incident.
Another case of callous indifference.

Very sorry to hear that.
I personally stop that vehicle and request them to fold up the footrest.
Most of the time I get angry glares and sometimes get "unnode velaiye paathittu poyaa" (Mind your own business) [cry]
Still not giving up[anger]
