I personally stop that vehicle and request them to fold up the footrest.
Most of the time I get angry glares and sometimes get "unnode velaiye paathittu poyaa" (Mind your own business)
Still not giving up

Nothing huge injury happened, just the footrest stabbed her leg.
Yeah, the Tamil people (esp. youth riders) will really get angry and talk **** words (even below 18, like me, get angry!) except a few matured riders who say thanks or give a smile.

Two wheeler manufacturers should make foot rest as spring loaded. This will help the foot rest to open only when feet is rested on it, else it will close automatically.

Even though it doesn't cost much, the manufacturers will not add it to cut that little cost also.
Manufacturer didnt care about the injuries happening to people with those small footrests.

I remember in old Bajaj scooters we had the footsteps with spring that would retract automatically

I dont know where to post this. We were travelling from Mumbai to Pune in our car. Just after we exit expressway and merging with national highway, 2 young men on bike came on our left side and started waving us and pointing towards our front wheel (showing thumb down). They were asking us to stop. I, however felt fishy and decided not to stop. I maintained same speed and they stopped following after a while. later I stopped at a petrol pump somewhere in Wakad and got down to check. There was no problem at all!! Why were they trying to stop us? Robbers/ thugs. Dont know.
On the contrary, while going to Pune from Bangalore there was a Toyota Corolla at high speed with flat rear tyre. I tried to signal him. But it seems he got suspicious and sped up. It was dangerous for them So I kept following them and flashed my head lights, and my son shouting out that they have a flat tyre. They finally stopped. I offered to help them if needed. They were thankful and said they will manage.
Its better to do maintenance properly and be confident of your ride. Avoid breakdowns on highways.

This is quite common case happening on Expressway. There has been an increase in the number of robbery for past few months. Safe is to avoid stopping on Expressway in the presence of people who try to attract your attention, and to check only at crowded places (toll plaza, petrol bunks, police nakas)
